What Insiders Are Saying
Hereford Road looks modern, but the food is traditional British. And despite being in Notting Hill, it’s very reasonably priced.
Wonderful evening. Great food and fabulous service.
Very nice British food valuing their ingredients. Nice little restaurant in a quiet street.
Hereford Road never fails to deliver sumptuous English cooking in a very chilled and relaxed environment. I fear our party of six were a bit too noisy at times for some of the more 'seasoned' patrons but we certainly helped add to the ambiance. Amazing food as usual. A wonderful evening was had by all.
Great, interesting food. Terrific value (outstanding food for the same price as mediocre pub food somewhere else).
But the noise level in the lower dining room made the experience unpleasant. It was as loud as people yelling in your ears, which is not fun. In fact, people at two of the tables were literally yelling. I recommend trying to sit in the upper level or outside.
Sunday lunch at Hereford Road and our first visit with a friend who has been several times. The food was very good though the fish and veg mains options were limited on our visit. The was more choice for starters. The food was very good and service relaxed and unhurried and wine mark ups are reasonable - we enjoyed a lovely bottle of red from Corbieres in France. We can see why this restaurant has good reviews and probably attracts a loyal following. Big caveat for us though is to avoid Sunday lunch. There were several families with small children which is fine if you are in the same position though for friends catching up regret this is not my scene however good the food and wine. We would love to go again for an evening visit and you could do worse than go here if you find yourself in the area. Our bill for 3 including one bottle of wine and coffees came to £148 including service so not the cheapest of Sunday lunches.
Delicious food with a menu that balances adventurous with accessible. Really nice friendly staff. Would definitely go back :)
The best restaurant in London
My fourth or fifth visit over the last several years. Never yet disappointed.
As with every visit, Hereford Road managed to supersede our already high expectations. The restaurant is not at all formal yet manages to convey a sense of seriousness about their food, which is borne out by the stellar food (and wine list). Our party included 2 teenagers, thrilled with their choices of duck breast starters, hake and onglet main courses. It was all so happy-making, we had to keep going and were particularly pleased with our gooseberry custard pots and rice pudding. It deserves to be busier, more expensive and better known so be grateful it's not, and go!
A good fresh food. I recomend the sole, the liver, the calf brain...
Amazing food, top quality service, beautiful venue, great location. Cannot recommend Hereford Road highly enough.
Staff didn't keep smile when we take time to order from menu. Shi said kitchen close soon. I understand bad you can guess how we felt.
Marvelous new discovery for me. Very close to home.
Wine very expensive. Food and service fine but the place had no atmosphere whatsoever. All the tables and chairs were worse for wear and the place really needs a new lease of life. May be better in the evening
Fresh, uncomplicated, delicious food and a laid-back local vibe.
Excellent in every way.
Food was excellent and staff very attentive. They were very accommodating and clearly know a lot about where their food is coming from and how it's prepared. Wine selection was good and reasonable. The only "complaint" is the chicken main was a little too salted.
Great menu with delicious food. Nice and relaxed evening
We have been at this restaurant many time and keep coming back!
The Food is always delicious and the service is great.
I highly recommend it! We will be back soon!
Really excellent restaurant. Delicious food and attentive service.
Great neighbourhood gem. Simple but really well executed dishes.
This is the sort of Good that you want to eat. The food is simple and the focous is in My opinion on highlighting ingredients. I really likeed that u could clearly see and taste every element in the dish and that it diddent hide under alot of "false teqnicue". Highly recommend!
A great neighbourhood restaurant. Good, simple Mediterranean style food, friendly service and excellent value.
Absolutely! We had one of our best meals in London at Hereford Road. Having tried a number of restaurants in London and, more specifically, in the area, we are happy to say that this is now our favourite. Food was excellent - smoked mackerel and chicory salad as starters, lamb and pork as mains, Bakewell tart and buttermilk pudding as dessert: we do recommend everything. One of us is not very much into buttermilk puddings and yet... we loved it! The wine list was also remarkable - we got a biodynamic French wine which went very well with the meat. Service was great too. We will go back!
Delicious food and great service.
Really nice long and leisurely lunch for two on Friday. Quiet, good food, very relaxed. Excellent Alsace Riesling - highly recommended.
Pork chop was tough
I've eaten at Hereford Road since we came to Westbourne Park in 2012, and it's never disappointing. The menus are always crammed with real, rather than wispily insubstantial, dishes: always shellfish, lamb and game alongside the fish, beef and chicken. And the prices are kept gratifying low - no main courses more than £18. Wednesday night was typically satisfying: my crab-on-toast wonderfully moist, the lamb rump medium-rare perfect (though the jus was watery) and the Bakewell tart densely flavourful.
I think your wine list could do with a re-think: there are too many unfamiliar names, of wines from countries you wouldn't visit to inspect the vineyards, and too many descriptions of their "organic" credentials rather than the grape variety. That's my only quibble about this fab restaurant, except to say the noise level from Toby Young's table made conversation a little difficult. But there's little you can do about that. And our waitress (Raffaella?) was delightful -- alert, responsive, chatty, helpful and molto simpatico.
Eat here a lot and love everything about it. Lunch is too cheap and dinner a bit pricey but it is always great food and lovely service in a stylish location.
Thank you Hereford Room for one of the best meals we have had in awhile. It would appear that a great deal of care is placed in sourcing the highest quality ingredients. The preparation is not fussy or pretentious, allowing the flavours to speak for themselves. All four of us look forward to our next visit!
A thoroughly enjoyable meal, with excellent relaxed service, delicious well-cooked food from an imaginative menu that reflects the best of British cuisine. I am looking forward to returning soon!
This restaurant is absolutely amazing. Quality of the ingredients and cooking is outstanding and we simply love going there. Service always great, a fabulous food experience and just gives you a great feeling to eat there. We have never had a bad experience, and we go very often!
Fabulous food, service and atmosphere. This is now high on my list of favourite restaurants. I can’t wait to go back.
Lovely simple straight forward tasty food. And v friendly service
Our evening was absolutely wonderful, we shared all of the small plates and a bottle of the exquisite Barbera between the three of us and had a delightful experience at the Hereford Road Restaurant. Everything was impeccable.
Our second trip to Hereford Road (on two trips to London), and we agreed it was about the best restaurant we had visited. Food was very good, service was fine. Prices are a little high (well, more than a little), but the overall experience made it worthwhile. We will certainly go there again on our next visit to London.
So is this review.
We enjoyed a delightful evening at Hereford Road. We have visited a number of times over the past few years and always enjoy good food, value simple, classic dishes: no foams or fuss.
This was not a restaurant I'd been to before, but it is situated in the quiet and leafy area behind Notting Hill, an area with a lovely ambiance. There were tables outside which were full on a warm evening. Inside the atmosphere was slightly uncharismatic but we ate early. The menu was very interesting and it was hard to choose from several dishes. In the end we opted for two starters each and a shared pud. All were absolutely fantastic and plenty big enough. I'd certainly go back and would highly recommend it.
Had a great meal with wonderful service. Very usually dishes on the menu.
