Happy hour oysters are served every day 4-7pm for just £3.75 for three.
Good lunch in an uncrowded and friendly environment.
Delicious food in a really good restaurant - I'd highly recommend it!
Food was mixed quality, the starter was amazing, but the main course (steak pie) was very third rate, M&S do better. Meat was tough and fatty, there wasn't a lot of it, the gravy was bland. I had roasted veg as a side order and it was dried-out and fairly tasteless. The staff were lovely and the place was very nice but for the eye-watering amount of money that a meal there costs it was - sadly - really disappointing.
Having planned a long weekend away from Chester we researched and booked this restaurant. This was our first time here and booked it on a Sunday for 4.30 as Sunday lunch finished at 5. Arrived at 4 for happy hour Oysters which were good. They indicated they had been busy so was seated at a small table just in front of the bar as no other tables were laid. However there was no Sunday lunch( 3 course set meal) so I tried to order the pork chop. No pork chop! I settled for a steak and my wife had fish and chips . Drinks were ordered first thing but after having finished my 6 Oysters I then reminded the staff that drinks had not been delivered to the table. ( only 10 people in the restaurant.) Food was good. The atmosphere was poor as for most of the time it was my wife and I sitting in an empty restaurant. Towards the end of the meal the waitresses sat at the bar to eat , so another person took over. Sad to see one of the staff eating a roast dinner! On THIS experience today the rating is low. At the time we booked we should have been informed on the website that Sunday lunch is available until it is gone. Also we felt we were more of an inconvenience at that time being late afternoon. What I would have liked /expected to happen from a restaurant of this standard was rather than “ sorry about that” , some sort of customer service which would have made a compromise or small offer such as offering a 3 course set dinner as expected but maybe pay a little more depending on what main was ordered. In no way did we feel an important customer.
Great meal with great friendly service. What more would you expect from a Hix Restaurant!
I almost never bother writing a review but I feel compelled to in this case.
The service here was a combination of slow and aloof, the food (particularly the steak) was below average and expensive, the oysters were nice but at £5 each they needed to be.
It felt like a place that's had better days and I would not recommend it.
We spent nearly £250 on a meal for 3 and I've had better food and service for less than half the price.
Great little place but need more front of house staff! We felt that when buying an expensive cut of steak it would benefit from a warmed server and hot plates also as everything went cold very quickly :-( The quality and cooking was superb but you had to be quick to eat it at it's best!!!
Terrific as always.
The beef and ale pies were a trip down memory lane. Superb! Excellent service and great food. A winning combination!!
The food was good but the service was horrible. Given the cost I would expect good food and good service. There are many other great restaurants to go to rather then this one.
Fab food (especially the scallop starter - probably the best scallop dish I’ve ever eaten) and lovely staff.
Food was excellent. Service, whilst friendly when we had it, was very slow to begin with. No water offered until I flagged the waitress down after waiting 15 minutes. Picked up once we managed to get our food order in.
Service was a bit slow at the beginning, however when we were attended to, all of the waiters showed expertise with the wine menu and food menu.
Very good food. Looked after my vegetarian friend very well - separate menu that was quite extensive. My steak was 'good' but perhaps I expected a bit more. Table good, but very noisy drunken long-lunchers across the floor that detracted a bit from our enjoyment. Would defintiely go back, nonetheless.
Great food and friendly attentive staff. I forgot about this little gem and will be back soon!
Lunch at Hix on Monday was exceptional. We started with prawns and I had the cod chitterlings, which were excellent. The plate of lamb was superb and beautifully cooked.
The service was excellent and had a very good lunch.
Having tried other restaurants and pubs nearby, we keep coming back here due to the superb and consistent standard of the food and the impeccable service.
Thank you !
Great night out with friends. Had lovely service and the food was excellent.
Great food, great service. Well worth a visit - thanks
Had the 2 course set menu which was delicious. Portions were quite generous
Fish and Chips was quite superb! Wine selection is very strong and the atmosphere is just perfect given the very busy area of Smithfield’s
Having the place almost to ourselves helped, but the food, service and just feel about the evening was excellent. The food was of the highest quality, and the service excellent. The music was at the right level and of the right type. Even when it became buiser, the place just felt lovely. One of the places were you know you will have an excellent night.
One of my most pleasant dining experiences. The garlic mushrooms and polenta was divine and the salted cod was the most gorgeous fish I have ever had. A trip to HIX Oyster & Chophouse is never complete without trying the credit crunch ice cream. One of the best restaurants in London.
Really enjoyed our meal at Hix
Oysters followed by Cod and lovely desserts
One of our favourite London restaurants
Lovely food, lovely place, lovely people. If you haven't been before, give it a try, have steak, you won't be disappointed
Highly recommended, the space itself provides a great ambiance with staff adding to this and expert service. The food as expected was flavoursome and well presented.
Consistently good lamb mixed grill imaginative and tasty as was the cod. Good well priced wine list. Tasty cranachan too
Oysters were good; steak quite tough and chewy; service somewhat aloof.
Wonderful food in a fabulous restaurant. Staff welcoming and helpful. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Lovely ambience. Knowledgeable staff. Tasty food. One of us had set lunch menu (really good value), whilst the other had a la carte menu. We also enjoyed the oysters
We are becoming regulars - when we want a big, family meal with a good choice, and high quality, this is now our restaurant of choice.
It was a family + friend meal and our friend was really impressed
It was quiet when I went for lunch, but I got a seat at the window and enjoyed my squid starter, followed by a delicious pheasant escalope with mash and greens.
Food wasn’t hot enough
Tables weren’t cleared when customers left
Wine glass not filled for quite a while
We had an incredible meal of oysters and hanger steak. We tried three native, three rock and three tempura oysters. Each were delicious and very different from each other. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly, and was succulent. We were so full we barely dug into the chips and the greens but these were also fantastic. It was coupled with a surprisingly reasonable house red. Service was a little slow at times, but overall the staff were friendly and attentive.
Always good and now our place to go for a lovely pre Christmas Sunday catch up.
Great food in a quiet, understated restaurant. The service was a little slow but the food was outstanding and the wine and cocktail selection perfect.
A perfect place to catch up with friends.
The food and service at this branch of Hix never disappoints. The menu changes with the season but the ambience never does.
Good food - well cooked and presented, and friendly service if a bit slow
Food is excellent, service rather slow and we got billed for a bottle of wine we didn’t have - hard to recommend when foul play occurs
