Not enough light
Food was good ( rib on the bone )
Service friendly and accurate
Pleasant atmosphere. Food good although all 3 main courses too heavy on the salt for our liking.
My experience was very good, however, my partner asked for 2 different types of beer that was on the menu and it was not available. Than we decided to go to a pub instead.
But I really liked the place, the service and the food.
Definitely will come back.
Really loved it. Fresh and delicious food and beautifully prepared. I chose the set menu which was great value. Kids were happy too and their main courses were free which was a bonus.
Have been in the evenings, but this time took the family pre-theatre. Nice not to be stuck with a chain restaurant. Great good for kids and adults, and the kids-eat-free deal was ace.
Very nice lunch. Food was excellent and the service polite and attentive. Will recommend to others and will come again. Thxs, Pete
Despite being a Friday lunchtime the place was almost deserted (apart, alas, from a screaming baby on a nearby table). The staff were inattentive and didn’t seem to care about our experience. No one asked if the food was okay, no one said goodbye or thank you when we left, the waiter tried to remove our starter plates before we had finished...... all pretty poor, especially given the price point and supposed reputation of Hix. Maybe this is why the place was deserted.
Both wines we wanted were ‘off’ - the suspicious side of me thought this was a ploy to upsell (if so, we didn’t fall for it). The food was okay but the starter portion sizes small for the money.
I spend a lot in restaurants and had a higher expectation of Hix. Not a good customer experience. But I guess no one cares....
Great client lunch at Hix, and lovely service. Food very hot and tasty, especially the Portland Crab and Fish Curry!!
Good option for a chilled early evening meal (that doesn't require standing in a queue!). Steak was a bit chewy, good wine selection, crab starter was tasty.
Monday night dinner at 730pm. Only a few tables occupied. Good food but no atmosphere.
Very impressed - pricey but one of the best steaks I’ve had. Would return (after payday)!
Great service. Chateau steak was awesome as was the Fish and chips! HIX IPA top notch. Plus, our last name is also Hix! Maybe we can meet Mark next time!
Excellent food but the service was extremely low.
The manager needs to hire
There was just 2 waitresses in the entires restaurant
Great set menu for £30 or so. Very reasonable. Food presented very well and good portions. Took about 10 mins for a waiter to come over and take order. Only complaint was grit in 2 of my clams. Apart from that was a great meal in such a lovely room.
Fantastic food with great options for vegetarians and carnivores alike. Service was exceptional given that we were on a tight timescale. Would highly recommend.
Pre theatre meal - great menu and service
Food was great, service was slow even though it was quiet!
Lovely, relaxed lunch venue with great service and delicious food. The Heaven & Earth black pudding starter was a treat.
One of our diners was coeliac. The manager spent a lot of time explaining the menu on what dishes would be suitable. She was so knowledgeable on all the dishes on the menu. This was really appreciated during a busy service.
Excellent Sunday roast. Fabulously child friendly!
Delicious food - everything. Super fresh and tasty oysters. Best fish bisque (with Pastis) I have EVER eaten. Succulent (and not overcooked) lobster. Home-made ice cream and chocolate sauce - impeccable! Faultless service. What else can I say?
Great food, best prawn cocktail I’ve ever had and my large slice of cod was beautifully cooked. Service was excellent. Will definitely return.
Very tasty food, also for our 6-year old daughter. Excellent service. But the music was a bit too loud for our taste.
Inventive delicious dishes - we shared a selection which was perfect and more than adequate portions for 2.
Bar and staff are super. Food is good but not too notch. Had to ask for the air-con to be turned down as people kept coats on. A bit disappointed to be told at 9:50 pm we couldn’t have coffee, after our meal, as the machine had been turned off. To be fair that was remedied immediately but should not be even a consideration!
Consistent is the word I would use to describe Hix. Regardless of which day of the week you go, the time you eat and the food you eat, it's always excellent. One of my go to places for good food!
The food was great and the location was perfect for our needs. The service was good if not a little surly!
It was my second time at HIX, and it was lovely. Service is very prompt and attentive, friendly staff and good recommendations. I had the fish of the day and it was delicious, cooked just right and very tasty. My partner's steak was even better - very tender and juicy. We shared a chocolate tart for desert, washed down with port. The only negative point is the wine list - quite pricey by glass and any decent wine is not cheap. All in all, great restaurant.
Very good food and location. Lobster and gin cocktail were fantastic
VERY DISAPPOINTED. Only reason we booked brunch at this location was for the ‘famed’ kedgeree and we arrived to find it wasn’t being served this weekend.... service lame (waitress couldn’t understand half of what we said) bottles of water didn’t show, food mediocre and pricey. Hix clearly going down hill....
We went for a late lunch during the Pride celebrations in London. The restaurant was very quiet but we were able to watch the activities out of the window. The staff were ok and the food tasty. They were not particularly welcoming once they knew we had a timeout voucher and placed restrictions on our choices.
I was disappointed to find that the main courses were nearly all fish. I have used this restaurant in the past for good meat dishes. Originally I used to love their hamburgers, which stopped being served some time ago. The friend I introduced to Hix last week does not like fish so I was very apologetic at this new fishy menu.
We had pre theatre meal excellent value and delicious
Great seafood. Good atmosphere. A bit noisy (as all restaurants in Soho!)
Prompt service, polite and efficient. Food is good to great depending on the dish. Room bright and attractive and not too noisy.
The food and service is very good, but some of the prices were ridiculous. £5 for an iced coffee? Asparagus was highlighted as a seasonal special offering. While I knew that the large scallops and asparagus would be £29, I had no inkling that the dish would consist of a few scallops and. ONE or TWO stalks of asparagus, thinly shaved. Insulting diners like that is not a good idea.
Great food, some wonderful twists on traditional themes and excellent service from very attentive staff. Excellent all around.
Service was good yet the food was average - the beef that I had was a medium rare but it is very chewy. Honestly nothing special which I don’t expect from HIX.
Disappointing. I had booked (party of 5) into HIX for a pre-theatre dinner (recommended by one of the party), we arrived early at 5.15pm (table booked for 5.30) to ensure we were away by 6.45 pm to see a play. We all went for the simple set menu and the restaurant was very quiet, well staffed but obviously had a single large party that the kitchen was catering for. We had simple snacks (brought quickly) but the starters were much slower. We warned the staff (3 different members) that we had to leave by 6.45pm, they listened, went to the kitchen but did not update us. Eventually at 6.30pm I told one of the staff that we would be leaving in 5 minutes with or without our main courses... they promptly arrived and we bolted down our food (or left half of it) and we rushed out of the HIX at 6.55pm - just making the play. The play Lehmann Trilogy was excellent, sadly the service at HIX was not!
Great food the asparagus and picanha were amazing and great service. Just a tad noisy but that would be typical on a Friday night. Loved it.
