terrible service and ambience. Felt like walking into a cemetary. Stilp made us pay for service!
Majoring in delicious fresh seafood but the steaks were equally good. Something for everyone.
I personally loved the Monk Fish Curry served with little pakoras and a flatbread. Save a space for the delicious little truffles at the end of the meal which were awesome.
Good wine list with a price point to suit most pockets.
Loved the strange artworks dotted around the main dining room. Definitely interesting.
And finally a real bonus we actually saw the chef as well.
Total disinterest and non engagement.
Had the porterhouse steak- looked more like a t-bone
British style, weighted to seafood
Loud, close quarters
Nothing stunning, but competent, fresh seafood
Loved the location, bar seating, menu, relaxed vibrant atmosphere
Service was excellent as was the food ( I had Oysters then Surf and Turf)
Great cocktails too
Excellent start before a night out in Soho
Service was poor, had to search for service rather than them being attentive and on the call. Snacks and Starters were good, the cockal popcorn is amazing!! Steaks were very poor, temperature was wrong and were not tender or tasty. I love steaks and had never eaten in HIX before, heard great things so expectations were high, unfortunately felt overall it was poor. Sirloin on the bone was not on the bone there was a slither of a bone and it was cook rare rather than medium rare. The pichana was chewy and again under cooked. Wine saved the day, was very good but at £65 a bottle it should be.
Wouldn’t go back unless I wanted a beer and some cockal popcorn.
Lunch at 12:30 on a Monday was early, it seems because place was empty. Started filling up at 1pm. Food ++++ service a bit passive.
We had a lovely Sunday lunch meal here. A very welcoming environment and lively food. We’ll definitely go back.
I love Marks Bar its always a vibrant place to be, we got to the table around 15 minutes later than planned and were told we literally had 1hr 15 mins till they wanted the table back, we should have gone elsewhere to be honest because the whole thing was so rushed, the food came before our drinks even arrived and it was literally heaped on us to the finish, will go to Marks Bar but will eat elsewhere in future !
They were very accommodating and got me the corner table I wanted
Really good, but not as good as my super high expectations. Love the bar downstairs, the restaurant didn't have quite the same vibe. Monkgish curry was really good, but pram cocktail was very salady and too big for a starter plate for my tastes.
First time I have been back to Hicks Soho for a couple of years, the welcome from staff very friendly, professional and informative. The roast cod and cauliflower was divine and my guest's fish and chips was simply 'epic'..and she was Italian. The martini's in the down stairs bar were some of the best I've had - thoroughly recommend.
Excellent food as always and a good venue for catching up with friends
Wonderful as always. Highly recommend nibbling on cockle popcorn while you read the menu!
Sat at the bar great lunch awesome service Cool surrounds
Exceeded our expectations. Friendly and welcoming staff, without being over bearing. Excellent menu, even better food. Highly recommend!!
Great food - the cherry pie for dessert was amazing! Went with the kids and although child friendly - felt a bit awkward when we first went in. Children’s main courses were free because we booked before 6pm. It’s an ideal place to go if catching a show in the west end...
The food was awful and very bland, the service was poor. Would not recommend
Lovely surroundings, good staff and lovely food.
Always great and great service. Staff are attentive and food is wonderful.
I came here for Sunday lunch and had a delicious roast chicken. I love this restaurant and have been numerous times... if only there wasn't the family with three loud and unruly children ruining the usual relaxed Sunday vibe...
Vacation trip dinner with friends in London. A nice funky restaurant. Options for kids were great and we had a really nice meal. Stayed late and staff didn’t rush us. Much appreciated.
I like Hix. Food was delicious. Only complaint would be they advise that you have 1.5 hours for the table before 6.30pm so we felt very rushed until we realised the place was really quiet and we were not going to get asked to leave but nevertheless felt the waitress was very 'on' us to finish each course etc so I've marked it down for that.
Everyone was very friendly but the guy who welcomed us to the restaurant was brilliant. Made our day.
Fab place to visit, the food and service amazing!! Best steak by far !!
First time having lunch here, restaurant was quite quiet but didn't mind that. Small but varied lunch menu had a good range of options, food was cooked very well, tasty and well presented and good value to boot.
Five of us went for a late Sunday lunch prior to a theatre trip. We had booked a table for five. All sunday lunches (beef and chicken), were sold out, as was the lobster. As two of us were non-fish eaters we had little choice. The chicken escalope was burnt on the underside, and dry and my child could have cooked better. Crab pasta were small portions. Restaurant was pretty empty but food too an eternity to come. My child could have cooked and presented better. Suspect Head chef had gone home? 4.15pm table? Very expensive and unimpressed.
Slow service for a Friday but excellent food
Service was really slow albeit very polite. Food was okay. Been to several HIX restaurants, this one may have just been having a bad day.
Overall a decent restaurant, went here after the theatre on a Saturday for my girlfriend's 24th birthday.
Positives: food very enjoyable, interesting decor, good wine list separated via pricing brackets.
Negatives: service friendly but a bit disorganised; was offered champagne on arrival for my girlfriend's birthday that was insinuated as a gift, but had to pay for it. We couldn't finish our admittedly very tasty mains, so asked for both our steaks and a side to be put into a doggy bag to take home. Girlfriend's steak thrown away and not bagged up. £200 for two including service and one bottle of average priced wine. If you're paying that much, you expect excellence and this was merely good.
Memorable for the entertainment from the doorman. Good mediocre and overpriced.
Great find. Superb food, the nicest staff in London, great ambience, insanely good location. Bar downstairs for drinks afterwards is cool and dark.
Unfortunately I ordered my steak medium and got it rare and had to send it back and my friend ordered his medium to well and got his medium. However the smoked salmon was extremely good. Also the second bottle of wine was sold out
Excellent set lunch and very good value. The food was excellent, the whipped broad bean starter was super as was the belly of pork. Wine was very good and great value at £25. Staff were very friendly.
Absolutely superb - not just an exceptional meal, but great service, a lovely atmosphere and really everything you'd want from a dining experience. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Just book and go, you won't regret it !
Service was great but the quality of the food and the ambience let this restaurant down. My friend ordered a medium rare Club Steak which was served very well done and resembled charcoal. The staff did ensure another steak was cooked but this took 25 minutes to arrive and by then I had already finished my main course. The cost of the Club Steak was taken off the bill which was a pleasant gesture. However, if HIX struggle with cooking a medium rare steak there is something very wrong in the kitchen. On the plus side the waiting staff and manager were very friendly and efficient. The ambience was let down by very low levels of lighting which meant I had to use the torch on my phone to read the menu. If you like eating in a cave, and you like over-cooked steak, then this is the place for you.
My fiance's 60th birthday dinner, just for the pair of us, we loved HIX at Browns, so wanted to try the Soho restaurant. Not quite the same ambience but service was just as excellent. Food was of an excellent quality, just as we had to come to expect from HIX. Great little touches like putting happy birthday in Chocolate on my fiance's dessert. Wine list was good, if slightly over-priced, but not ridiculously so. We had a very enjoyable evening and will be back.
