When the fish of the day turns from John Dory to Brill, you know you’ve come to the right place. Top fish beautifully cooked with confident service. On point for classy dining.
Nice restaurant and tasty food, but the atmosphere was a little dull. They’re a bit confused over their offers too - website states BYOB Sundays and no corkage. Then we got there and they didn’t know anything about byob Sundays, then there was a £25 corkage, then £6.. then finally they honoured what was on their website. The manager was friendly though.
The speakeasy bar downstairs - Marks - is really cool - would be much more likely to recommend that than the restaurant.
Great restaurant, and was welcoming of our toddler. Only marked down a bit as service was a bit slow at a fairly quiet time, e.g. could see our drinks waiting on the bar for ages, had to prompt for them. Overall though would totally come back.
Food average, especially given the cost. Service good and staff very friendly.
I never usually write reviews but the entire dining experience was very disappointing that it’s compelled me to share it so other people can avoid such a situation. Food was average but it was the service that was atrocious.
Wasn’t given a menu, or asked if I’d like to have something to drink. Had to ask 3 times to get still water. Seems like the waiter/waitress simply ‘forgot’ us.
Upon leaving to get our coats, the cloakroom lady was extremely flustered and couldn’t find our things (can’t blame her she was the only staff at reception) however another guest was also waiting for his items and she said you can look for it so he got into the cloak room and started rummaging things around. No security whatsoever. Very sad to see such awful service.

HIX Soho did a lot of things right, but too many things wrong on my wife's and my recent visit. Our server had such a limited grasp of English that it was impossible for her to understand our questions, or to answer them accurately. At a restaurant like this, I expect the servers to be very knowledgeable about menu items, but our server struggled even to take the order. And then, the fish and chips that my wife ordered... The fish was good, but frozen chips?!?! In a place like this? When it's listed as HIX Fish and Chips, one would expect the whole dish to be pretty special. This was not. I had the other cod dish, and it was excellent. So, in summary, the food was mostly good, but the chips were a real disappointment, and the service, while cordial enough, was far from gracious.
The restaurant long lost its hay day. We were there for a special occasion with guests from abroad.
The starters were very average but the worst part was the special fish of the day that came with its guts not cleaned! And also uncooked!
The service was also very slow in the beginning and then it gradually became better thanks to Jack, a new member of the team.
Would never recommend anyone to go there again!
We went on a Sunday evening, and the restaurant was quiet and uncrowded. Food was excellent, simple and very high quality, and service was friendly, helpful and accurate.
It has been a long time since I was unable to finish my food due to the large portion sizes, but that happened at Hix! Happily, only a very small amount was left, but the portion sizes are great.
Good beer selection too, including a dark ale, my personal favourite and rare in restaurants currently.
Medium steak cane out still bleating- sent it back so my friend finished his meal way before mine came back. Took £7 off the bill for ‘goodwill’, then tried to charge £16 for service ... I don’t think so. Been to Hix many times but a bit put off now.
The oyster happy hour was very reasonable, however the service was dreadful, there were so many waiting staff but we constantly had to go out of our way to get their attention. The prosecco they poured us was very flat and they made us feel bad for ordering a fresh glass (!), OpenTable asked if it was for an occasion upon booking, to which I said it was my 30th birthday - Hix then charged us a fiver for a few truffles which we didn't order. The oysters had grit in so were not shucked very well. Super disappointing.

First time I'd visited in a few years and was very disappointed. Menu felt uninspired - we went with the shrimp burger which was fine and would have been ok in a gastropub or similar, but overly greasy and not flavourful or refined enough to charge nearly £20 for it. Overloaded with mayonnaise also.
Very limited choice of wines by the glass and most very expensive (Malbec nearly £18!).
We waited an absurdly long time to order at every stage and had to search for our waiter and flag them down after about 20 minutes to order drinks, then food, then dessert etc.
Sadly I feel the place has really gone downhill and felt overall very tired.
Great food, service was a little slow but more than compensated by a complementary bottle of wine which meant we hardly noticed!
Really special evening, looked after very well from the moment we arrived. Drinks at the bar followed by very attentive, friendly and helpful service at the table.

Very friendly waiting and bar staff. I have to remarque that is quiet hard to get a table for 1. Sorry I am just single and I like to travel on my own. Just don’t put some single person automatically at the bar - face from the crowd. Anyway - I ordered the Lobster -
Delicious. Asked for some greens with it and got some cooked cabbage. (Which are greens ;) - lobed the freshly baked sourdough bread. For dessert the chocolate mousse - the taste was excellent - best quality of chocolate, but the texture was to chewy and sticky, more like a paste. The sauterne was sweet but not sugary, a great round taste - beautiful. The 12.5% additional service seems all right or a table service, not for a bar-service though.
We were seated next to a customer who was very loud, kept singing loudly throughout dinner and did not pay his check. He was very disruptive and staff clearly did not know how to manage that situation.
Food wise - steak was ok and the sides were good. But the grouse was very very tough, unusually so, and not the cheapest around. Very disappointing overall, as I was looking forward to it.
I’ve been a customer for years now but I won’t be returning this time!
I used to recommend Hix for weekends woth kids, been several times over the past year, but this will be the last time. Service was nonexistent - we had obviously come at shift hand over. Kids food arrived before our drinks, had to wave every-time wanted something, even cutlery and napkins, cleared our own plates onto neighbouring tables (empty ones of course), told 2 options were available and then they weren’t, I could go on, it was a shambles. Told the manager - apologised, but didn’t actually do much about it to encourage us back, so we won’t bother.

The restaurant was very welcoming and the food was delicious. Dry fresh and well presented. It’s not cheap ! But the food is worth the money. The wine prices are quite expensive but you can get a house wine for £25 a bottle. They even parcelled up the steak bone for my dogs !
Perfect place for a pre theatre lunch. The set menu was superb!
Just had a chilled evening for my daughter's 24th birthday - great food and atmosphere and amazing service from really attentive and helpful staff.
Very disappointed... won’t be dining at any more Hix restaurants. Beef gravy for chicken, undercooked Yorkshire pudding, over cooked potatoes, the most pungent cauliflower cheese. I dined alone and was made to feel a bit like I was an alien. Singles aren’t the target audience apparently.. sent a tweet got ignored so obviously not interested in feedback
Was a perfect choice to entertain friends from Italy, location is right in the thick of Soho and the British food is excellent.
Just awful. The service was dire. The food not all worth the money. We’ve past so many times and thought we’d try this place. We will continue to walk by from now on. You need to seriously up your game when it comes to service.
