Niagara-on-the-Lake is famous for its historic architecture, golf courses, and culinary prowess, so why not combine these into one wonderful experience? The HobNob Restaurant & Wine Bar is found in a beautifully restored 1832 manor house that overlooks the renowned Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club. The name of the game at HobNob is laidback, yet exquisite indulgence. Limited special occasion menu, good flavours
Hobnob has been consistently outstanding over 6 visits these past several years. The menu is not extensive, but everything on it is fresh to an extreme, superbly prepared and presented beautifully. One of the few restaurants that you come away from thinking, "that was a fantastic meal".
The HobNob is an excellent restaurant in the heart of NOTL. The menu provides a lot of variety and the food is creatively prepared. The service is great and the restaurant has a wonderful ambiance. I would recommend this restaurant without reservation. It is very good value for the money.
It was a perfect location with the most attentive wait staff. Not intrusive, very respectful when approaching not to interrupt. Food was excellent! It was a very nice evening for us as we celebrated 36 years of marriage.
The food was very good. However, we had told the staff that we needed to be at the theater for 7:30. We arrived at 6:00 pm. The food arrived at 7:05. Needless to say our dinner was rushed. The staff were very apologetic, this did not take away from having to wait 60 mins for the first plate to arrive.
It was lovely but very overpriced
Exceptional food and great service in a fine old century home.
Food was delicious! Wine was a little too expensive, but Niagara wine is so good. Tone down the $$$$ please. Server was fun and attentive, no complaints with him.
Seated on the indoor veranda with fan turning and casting blinking light on our table, we feared seizure activity! That was a little tacky for our liking!
Great service and lovely ambiance. Nice place to have a romantic dinner.
We hadn't been in over a year and quality and experience was just as good.
Great restaurant. New Chef and he delivered on quality. We were a party of four and got seated right away. Service was good and the sirloin I had was cooked just right. Recommend if you can afford the $.
Food and ambiance are wonderful. However the wine list is unnecessarily expensive.
Outstanding dining experience. The service is always amazing! I had the heirloom tomatoes as a starter and the filet was delicious.
Amazing food and service. Lovely patio to enjoy the food.
We expected an amazing meal, considering price and location, what we got was subpar at best. My husband ordered sea bream @$40 plate. It lacked simple seasoning and was dry. I’ve created more flavors in my home kitchen. My dish, pasta @$34 was overly spiced with heat and had minimal vegetables (as the only vegetarian option, I was hoping for more then just pasta and spicy red sauce) our waiter was pleasant but did not ask why both of our plates were barely touched. As far as the wine list, I was taken back after seeing a price of $63, for a bottle of wine from Ravine (local) that is sold for $19 at the winery (10 minutes away)
Overall, food taste and quality did not measure to price. After a lovely day around town, it was a disappointment for sure.
Great service.....Thanks Darrin. Compliments to chef and staff for excellent plating of delicious food.
Amazing food and service ! We ordered the large seafood tower to share and it was phenomenal. We also ordered the duck entree to spilt as well. The food was amazing and the service was top notch. Definitely a hidden gem in NOTL.
Our party of three dined on a Friday evening before heading to the Royal George for a performance. We appreciated that it was in such close proximity. As performances go, the restaurant was the star of the evening. Starting with the tomato salad - divine. Our entrees were equally superb. The house cured tuna served as my entree and it was plentiful. Filled with amazing, not overpowering flavors of goat cheese and pickled vegetables, it was an artfully presented dish with a creative melding of flavors. The staff was friendly and attentive, great evening.
Duck was cool sent back fired under a salamander and re-plated. Fish was very good as was the chicken. The server poured the wine the first time only during dessert dinner we had a sparkling wine which when poured filled the glass nearly to the top in fact there was only one pour for the bottle. And a bill of $800.00 was unexpected my three guests were visiting chefs from out of town and one from England all highly trained in Switzerland France and one in England you didn’t live up to your reputation that night . But we all have off nights I know.
All courses were fantastic, as well as the complimentary amuse bouches, homemade sourdough bread and wines by the glass. Will come back again!
The food was great, and the service was excellent. The sea bream was great. Loved the palate cleansers.
Just what we were looking for!
Excellent food. Very slow.
Food and service were outstanding.
Dinner on the veranda was enchanting.
The restaurant did look beautiful and I am sure we just chose a bad day. We will try again as the menu looks delicious and we know that days like this do happen.
We arrived and were not greeted. We were ignored (no eye contact by employees) for more than 6-7 minutes. It was obvious the restaurant was very understaffed. The few patrons seated did not look happy, nor did the staff who seemed to not know what to do.
Great service. Excellent prosciutto - it's a must try if you're there. I had the burger and unfortunately, it was somewhat laking. Don't get me wrong, the burger was OK, however, for the price, I'm expecting more than just OK. The fries were super delicious tho
Excellent restaurant. Excellent dood. Small menu focused on doing it right. Was nice to be able to have a good conversation at dinner instead of trying to talk over the crowd!
Celebrating a new job
Table at door to kitchen access, busy .
Long wait between first and main course.
Good server,but stressed ,room packed.
Good parking at rear of venue.
All dishes excellent.
Good wine list, especially Viognier from Inniskilin.
Prices a little high, guest from Europe sic "overpriced"
Would recommend however.
The food was excellent. The service was mixed for the quality claimed by the restaurant. Each time dishes were cleared, visible food particles were on the white table cloth but were ignored. We were in a narrow vorridor area along a veranda. The tables were set up so that one person had a nice view and the other saw a post. The floor was dirty and the volume of traffic back and forth along the corridor by waiters and customers detracted from the romantic ambience sought in celebration of our 40th anniversary. A sour note to our celebratory weekend away.
We had a lovey, intimate table and were presented with a glass of champagne on the house because it was our anniversary. The food was excellent and our waiter James was very professional and pleasant. We always enjoy our visits to Hob Nob’s.
We went here on Jun 21st, Friday evening @ 7 PM. We ordered the Tuna Conserva as an appetizer to share. Then I ordered Veal Tenderloin, medium rare; my hubby ordered Truffled Cornish Hen Ballotine. My steak was over-cooked to medium. They charged $54 for that steak, more than a steak house, so I expected perfection. I sent it back but my server came back with a suggestion to order another entree instead. I got the hint and ordered the Cornish Hen since I already tried my husband's and it was good. I have to wait about 20 minutes before my new order arrived. By then, my husband has finished his dinner.
I didn't like the Tuna Conserva either. My server was good. He noticed I wasn't eating my dinner and came forward. He also kept assuring me my dinner is coming soon. The sauce chef was good but the Grill chef over-cooked my Veal Tenderloin. I knew as soon as my knife touched the steak. My waiter said my veal steak was medium-rare (guessed he repeated what the chef said). Well, look at the picture and you be my judge. For all these years I frequented Fine Dining restaurant and Steak House, this was a medium-well steak.
Not going back ro this restaurant and not recommending this restaurant for steak as chef can't tell the difference of a medium-well, medium, and medium-rare steak. Menu is very limited. Only soup they serve is Soup of the day. Their Soup of the day was Tomato Soup which is not my favourite. Check the menu before you go. If your favourite is not there, you would have very limited choice.
Wonderful lunch outside in the patio. Service was perfect. Waitress was the most pleasant! Food delicious. We both had the grain bowls.
Love this restaurant. Food was outstanding. The asaparus soup was flavourful and served piping hot. the gnocchi was an experience of texture and taste with crunchy slivered almonds and a mild smoke taste to the roasted tomatoes. My husband enjoyed the salmon carpaccio and the veal tenderloin both were excellent in taste and presentation. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable. The service by Alan was efficient and friendly without being intrusive. Great variety of fairly priced Canadian wines. We will definitely be back.
My husband and I ordered the dinner and wine pairing, and every course was spot on. Incredible food, amazing wine and awesome service! I can’t wait to go back!! I missed a few of the course pictures, but added a few of the good ones!
On our trip from New Jersey to the charming town of Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario , we chose to celebrate our anniversary with a dinner at the Hobnob restaurant at the Charles Hotel. Our choice of Chef ThOshan Alweer’s tasting menu proved to be a 6 course culinary tour de force. From the Truffle Sunchoke Soup to the Foie Blackforest dessert, the creative imagination of each recipe was evident - beautifully conceived and perfectly executed. Darren, our server and host added to the perfection of the evening with his deft explanations of each course, his suggestions for accompanying wines, and his spot-on instinct for knowing when to converse and when to allow privacy. A lovely 58th anniversary dinner. The only negative was that it had to end.
The HobNob is an excellent restaurant in Niagara on the Lake. The menu offers a lot of choice and the food is well prepared. The servers are very attentive. I strongly recommend this restaurant as one of the better restaurants in the area.
Excellent meal. Elegant atmosphere. Exquisite in every way!
