The food and drinks were great! we came for a family dinner and had a great time
Pancakes were delicious but, overall, food is not worthy. Portions were extremely small. If you order the "poached eggs on toast" you'll get one slice of toasted bread with literary two dry eggs on top. No sauce, no nothing (the most tasteless and sad poached eggs on toast I have ever eaten). If you order scrambled eggs with mushrooms on the side, they give you half a portobello mushroom in a cup ...
Not a "Bonne Appetit" for you !
This restaurant was very good we were able to change the hour of our reservation with no problem, service very friendly and I loved the food
Great vibes for brunch! Food was great and the staff didn’t even hustle us out of the place even after sitting and dining for 2hrs! Was great to just eat and hang out with friendly staff and great food
Stunningly designed from every detail. The food and cocktails were tasty and enjoyable. Service as comically bad but the management was incredibly apologetic explaining there was a major short-staffing situation. The server was still poor and could have offered an explanation before making many mistakes, forgetting drink orders, food orders and generally being inattentive. However, we'll chalk it up to a bad night and say it's worth checking it out.
really cosy breakfast/brunch place in the heart of Shoreditch. Esecially like to ambiance and the 60's feeling in the interior.
Great food and atmosphere. However, we were waiting for an hour for the waiter to come to our table to order the food...
Lovely all day spot with a string quartet making a great ambience on weekends. Slightly limited choice Of brunch dishes and the coffee was brought to us lukewarm, but overall good quality of food served and a lovely atmosphere
Great for a catch up with friends, we had a leaving lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon.
Very friendly, brilliant string quartet, lovely food. Super service, thank you.
I am not a big fan of their dinner menu but went for their brunch and breakfast menu. It was lovely, fresh delicious. We had the omelettes and then shared pancakes.
Every bit, very lovely.
It was a warm relaxed venue and the breakfasts took a wonderful turn with the live violinists playing.
Birthday dinner. Amazing food for any eater - I have dietary restrictions and they were very accommodating and knowledgeable. Also not too loud - we sat at a larger booth and had no problem hearing each other
Excellent friendly staff. As we were a big party we had a table in a quiet spot. The food was excellent and came out all together. Good atmosphere with live music. Would certainly go back and would highly recommend.
We had a delicious breakfast here after a late night of cocktails. The omelettes were superb, though we eyed the pancakes of neighbours enviously. We loved the decor and atmosphere.
Been here 4-5 times before. Love the decor, the food is usually good and the service is usually relaxed and friendly, yet professional. Sadly this visit was disappointing due to dodgy desserts and disinterested service.
We had a luke-warm crumble with no crumble and a bland ice cream sundae with no chocolate sauce. It took 20 minutes order drinks and food and then the starters arrived within minutes of the drinks, so it suddenly felt rushed. The waiter seemed generally disinterested and didn't engage with us at all, unlike other staff when we have visited previously.
Will probably give it another go in the future but won't be rushing back.
Wonderful place for dinner though menu relatively limited
Service a bit slow
Noticeably understaffed on this occasion - as our very nice Waiter / Front of House Guy explained...
A couple of staff decided to 'call in sick' (ie. Hungover) - so left those who turned up to work in a tight spot, with many tables to manage...
Our guy apologised for the slow service, which was really appreciated... A simple explanation goes a long way (and a free drink... ;)
That aside, I always enjoy my time at Hoi Polloi. Nice ambience and decor. and DOG FRIENDLY!!!! :)
Tasty food at reasonable prices. Loved the live band playing at the restaurant. Perfect Sunday brunch
Always such a nice atmosphere, even more so when the string quartet are playing classic Britney. Fantastic food and great service. Mac and cheese (with or without short rib) and stem ginger pudding were clear winners from our most recent visit. Looking forward to an excuse to go back again soon.
Missed my reservation by over 45mins. Was still seated straight away and staff were very accommodating and helpful. The wait staff were efficient and friendly.
Coffee was amazing! Ordered two each!
Veggie Brunch menu was good but the live mini orchestra (?) playing hip hop and classic songs was really amazing and definitely planning to come back in a few weeks!
Great atmosphere and ambience. Recommend highly.
As ever, great food and lovely service at Hoi Polloi. Always feels like a treat when I go there.
The string quartet playing during the Sunday lunch time when I was there was a lovely touch.
Amazing place for brunch on Sunday
Life music, great ambiance and food is heavenly good!
Slow service waited 15 minutes to be served but were quick when it was time to pay.
Food decent- stem ginger pudding sauce tasted sour.
Ample poritions for drinks.
Not overly pretentious.
Lovely food, nice atmosphere. Not too loud, was quite a big space so didn't feel very busy but enough people around. Food was great and came out quickly! Drinks were also fun. Would recommend for weeknight dinner.
It was the evening before my sisters wedding. We started with oysters which were delicious. I had the salmon, and a side of mac and cheese and I definitely needed the carbs with it! It was delicious.
Food was lovely - we had the salmon (with the most gorgeous confit garlic) and a friend had the Bavette steak, and we shared some sides. Highly recommend the broccoli and the kale. The thing that let it down was the service - really slow and quite rude.
Excellent food but strange attitude with bookings. Didn't want to accommodate pushing back booking by 30 minutes despite half the tables being empty all evening!
Loved the string quartet playing current day radio and pop songs. Quirky entrance through a plant shop was cool. Cosy place for a comfortable get together with friends.
We had breakfast and the menu’s great value for money. Also a treat to have a live string quartet on the weekends.
Had a lovely early lunch with a delightful staff friendly, helpful.
The food is god a bit uneven but overall quite satisfactory.
Will come back.....
We came for breakfast for my Husband's birthday. Food was great, and they also went out of their way to give him a small complimentary treat for his birthday. Service was smooth and quick. Really relaxed atmosphere where you are made to feel welcome and not rushed.
Lovely brunch, great music. Especially liked the crispy roast potato side.
I had requested a special meal with my booking and emailed days earlier to make sure that this would be included. When we arrived it was like I had never made a booking. The requested high tea came out with some parts not included - you could even see where parts had been taken off. We we told it wouldn't include some aspects (scones, hot foods) and then some of these (hot foods) came out in staggered parts. The staff just seemed confused and it was a pretty disappointing experience.
We had the Sunday roast beef, which was really very very good. The Yorkshire puddings were not the best but I have never had good Yorkshire pudding in a restaurant. Nice ambience, very relaxed, very nice people.
Come here for brunch quite a lot. Sometimes there is a band playing. Excellent ambiance and good service.
Always a pleasure, with nice people and a relaxed friendly ambiance.
They were totally understaffed. We had to ask for drinks. They forgot bread. We waited ages to be served. I write an email and spoke with staff earlier in the day as it was my friends 40th I asked for a cake with a candle. They forgot. I was quite upset. We were left with food in front of us we had to ask for it to be cleared. Waiter apologised at the end but was too late. More staff should be employed. It used to be the best place for service. Now awful.
Its like dining in Arctic Monkey's Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino - art deco lines, soft furnishings and wood panelling. And thats a good thing. The service was pretty faultless, but the food was somewhat bland and mediocre.
