What Insiders Are Saying
The Holborn Dining Room is a big and grand, but still casual, all day restaurant inside the Rosewood Hotel, serving posh British comfort food.
Had the steak tartare for mains at £22. It came out as a starter size, was shocked. If you go to Cotes the steak Tartare is same size and a starter. Wont go back, small portions and big prices. Staff are ok, a bit jaded and unengaged so missing that personal vibe that gives restaurants character. Pit as the setting is beautiful.
We came for the Welly Wednesday and it did not disappoint. The ambiance is high end fancy but definitely warm and welcoming, and the dining room is sumptuous and romantically lit. We enjoyed the oysters, seafood salad, and Wellingtons, excellent recommendations from the somm. Staff works as a team to look after you and we never wanted for attention, everyone was lovely. Would highly recommend and it’ll keep a spot on the list to return to for special date nights.
Celebrated my husband's birthday. It was a Wednesday so we specifically came here to try the Beef Wellington. We weren't disappointed. It was perfect! Service was quick. It took a while to catch their attention when we wanted to order more wine in the middle of the meal. Also, they gave my husband a complimentary dessert with a lighted candle for him to blow. On the plate was written in chocolate 'happy birthday' which was an extra touch. Very happy we came here.
Probably the worst meal I have had in London! Food was terrible. Should have know when the waiter suggested my colleague had his beef medium well due to the fact the supply was unknown in terms of quality!!!
The staff were excellent in every way, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was great - lively without being overly loud.
We really enjoyed our meals. We shared a scotch egg and one of us had the sirloin and the other the rib-eye streaks. Both were delicious.
The waiters were perfect. There was no pressure to have more expensive drinks.
The atmosphere is relaxing. Soft furnishing keeps the noise level down.
I am looking forward to returning.
We stayed at Rosewood Hotel where the restaurant is. We ate breakfast here every day as it came with our package from the hotel. It was very good and we are so happy we got to try the pies. They are DELICIOUS! We went back twice for them. The Gin Bar there is also very good. It has so many options to choose from. The wait staff and bar staff are very helpful and nice.
Exceptional scotch egg and pastry. Great selection of gin cocktails and good service. A great choice for a special birthday dinner!
Great vibe in there. Food and service good.
Went there for lunch and had a grand cafe feel. Nice furniture.
Great food, great service, reassuringly expensive!
I’ve been there couple of times but just for drink, it’s my first time tried dinner, however the rib eye steak was very disappointing, the meat itself was very loose and lack of texture. Other than that all was ok.
Very slow service, too pricey for what it is, food is a hit and miss (we are 12 people and half liked half disliked the food quality). The biggest problem was it took them 90 minutes to take an order and we started our dinner 2,5 hours into our booking.
The food was very good, classics rather than creative cooking. The ambience was very.nice, all dark wood and candlelight. The service was very good too, efficient and informative. But wow the prices. I think I would need to be earning money in a currency other than pounds to be able to afford to come back. And they added a donation to the bill without asking me. Good quality overall, but I probably would not go back.
I sat at the bar, and the staff was SO welcoming, and made me feel so at ease as a singe diner.
The food and service was very good and the ambience was great. I will
be returning and will recommend to friends and family
On entry, Holborn dinning room has a marvelous atmosphere.
Greeted by an amazing member of staff whom I must say is extremely attentive. I was with my wife and a friend on the day and the member of staff (seeing that my wife is quite heavily pregnant) asked whether she wishes to have a pillow to support her back. No restaurant has done that so far and that's definitely a plus! Both on observation and care! That I give full marks. Shame I didn't get her name as she should be commended for her excellent service.
From that point onward, things dipped from great to a mere 2-3 star - more of a 'meh' if I may say so.
The dinning room was exceptionally busy for a Tuesday evening, so things are slightly hectic. Not sure whether I should be waiting for over 5 minutes to try to get someone's attention to get a fresh drink?
For starters, my wife and my friend each ordered a pea & mint soup and for myself a gin-cured salmon.
My thoughts, the gin-cured salmon lacks flavour (and I am not inferring that there is not enough gin), the salmon was simply tasteless. I think a piece of Itsu salmon could have been better.
Pea and Mint soup? Meh, but the accompanying 'feta & pea focaccia' – wow, what a treat. I could have about 10 of those and still want more.
For Mains – I had a medium rare Cornish beef sirloin and my wife had a hand raised pork pie. My friend had a trusty burger which I was told was reasonable. All coupled with truffle and Parmesan fries and mashed potatoes.
I had a taste of the pie and I must say that it's not bad. A bit too salty (likely to be the bacon) and the pie casing a bit too tough.
My steak - I didn't finish it, I have never had such a bad piece of sirloin, tasteless, tough and full of sinew. The heat distribution of how it was cooked means only around 40% of the steak was medium rare and the rest, well-done or medium. It was just disappointing.
All in all, we had a great start but ended in tears (I am slightly exaggerating here).
Had a great meal for our Daughter's birthday on Saturday. Restaurant was stunning, Staff were excellent, and food was also very good.
A truly lovely experience. The service was fantastic and the waiter was very helpful with the menu. The wine list pricing was slightly above where it could be with the least expensive bottle being £39.
Good service, ambience and full-sized portion of chicken salad was delicious.
I had the fish and chips which were very good. I ordered some carrots as a side dish but I got some other vegetables mixed in and the overall dish wasn’t very good. I wish they had informed me it wasn’t just carrots. I find some of the lunch dishes slightly overpriced.
While the place was packed, it was still very easy to talk to my dining companion. The food (beef wellington with red wine gravy) was absolutely delicious and of a very generous portion. The drink (star of Bombay gin and tonic) was perfectly matched by the tonic they recommended. Overall an amazing experience. Pricey, yes, but well worth it
Fabolous fries and desert, everything was really tasty and price/quality is 5*
Great Sunday roast, great service, lovely atmosphere, highly recommend
Extremely poor evening. Slow service, awful food, poor resolution to issues.
The worst cheats I’ve ever had, bland mac & cheese and flavourless burger
As promised by the friend who recommended Holborn, the pies here were amazing. I highly recommend them now as well! Service was excellent - an exceptional experience and a superlative ending to our trip to London.
Love everything about the Holborn Dining Rooms. Just go, you won’t be disappointed. Start with a martini...what’s not to like.
Very nice as usual. On a table that seemed to be very much in the corner of the restaurant, but it suited our purpose.
Fabulously outstanding food, absolutely delicious. Service was good but then they forgot our bread and we had to remind them that they hadn’t taken our dessert/coffee order. It was a very busy night when we went and the staff were in demand. One of our waitresses must have over heard that it was our son’s birthday. She produced a lovely happy birthday plate with a candle and petit fours. I would definitely go again.
Best beef Wellington ever. Also the chocolate tart was incredible
As always, attentive and knowledgable staff. Excellent food. Music got a bit overpowering as the restaurant filled up. (Only French Cider - tsk, tsk!).
Too expensive for a glass of wine and a pie 40£ and service not attentive enough in the end of our meal, we needed 5/7 minutes to catch a member of the staff eyes to ask for the bill
Absolutely amazing dining experience.
We started with drinks at the bar and the champagne cocktail we wanted wasn’t on the current menu but the barman was happy to make it for us anyway. He was also very knowledgeable in helping us to select a gin from the description of our likes.
The food was sensational, we started with a lobster thermidor tart and it was exquisite. Our main course as visually pleasing as it was delicious. We would have loved to have tried the deserts but we sadly had no room but we shall be back.
It was also lovely to see that the restaurant was dog friendly
Utterly brilliant pies. Stunning. Michael the sommelier was brilliant and made great suggestions.
Amazing food, service was second to none. We even went to the pie room after to eat when we weren’t so full! Scotch egg is one of the best things i’ve ever tasted.
Great service - enjoyable breakfast. I ordered an Omelette which was nice. A little pricey, but nothing extraordinary for this part of London.
Excellent food and excellent service
A lovely venue with gorgeous decor. My pie was somewhat oversalted, but overall the food is good. The wine is, however, shockingly overpriced.
Nice dinner and ambience staff good. Not sure the check trousers are a style suitable for everyone though! Good to see Four Pillars on a gin list and the Shiraz one too well done!
The staff were on the whole fabulous but the one female waitress was rude and unhelpful.
The ambience and decor and staff uniforms were great.
Food was lacking in flavor and left a lot to be desired!!!
