What Insiders Are Saying
The Holborn Dining Room is a big and grand, but still casual, all day restaurant inside the Rosewood Hotel, serving posh British comfort food.
Just excellent. Beef Wellington outstanding, food great, nice place to be, thoroughly recommended
Nice business restaurant. Busy and attentive staff. Food very similar to what you might find in the Ivy et al but my client liked it. Beautiful building and a varied interesting menu.
Really great apart from their seating bureaucracy; 80% empty restaurant at 10.30am and they could not seat me at my 12pm lunch table. MD had to speak to Lunch Tables Manager; gave up at that point and sat at the bar for a bit.
Despite the size and the grandeur of the architecture, the atmosphere is extremely relaxed and intimate which is a hard act to pull off. Food is simple, British and very well done. Pies are their speciality and are thoroughly recommended. We had the curried mutton, hot pork pie and the potato, conte and onion, all were excellent. Prices are surprisingly reasonable. So it's easy to see why this place is always busy and buzzing. Oh, and if you like gin they have one of the best lists in town.
Truly a magical food experience!
Great pies, Mac and cheese, and a wonderful interior!
Lovely food, especially the pies! Great wine and a relaxed setting. Not the cheapest but feels worth it for the service and quality
If you love things wrapped in pastry, you should really make a pilgrimage here. The pies are famously excellent, an accolade to which we can now attest. The service is really friendly and attentive without being overbearing - enough to feel like you're being really well looked after without worrying if you have to ask permission to go to the toilet. Extra points for how excellent the staff were with my 15 month old - think someone on the team there has read French Children Don't Throw Food, because he felt really included in the whole meal with his own toddler cutlery and crockery - and he nailed his sausage and mash! One tiny downside was that the pea accompaniment to one of the pies was cold - maybe hotter plates might have helped? Apart from that one minor, everything else was really great and I imagine we'll be along again soon.
Best pies anywhere in London! The Chicken and Tarragon is sensational with crispy pastry and a deep filling. Other dishes also looked excellent and there is a great lively ambience in the room.
I always bring people not from the UK here as they often haven't had a proper pie. And whilst this is not the liquor and jellied eels type of pie they are certainly the tastiest and prettiest pies in London, and served in the great atmosphere of Holborn Dining Room.
This place always impresses my guests and the food is delicious. Definitely a place for entertaining clients or friends from outside the UK!
We first visited in 2015 whilst celebrating our silver wedding anniversary. We were so impressed that we promised that we would return on our next visit to London. Four years later we came back and had ANOTHER outstanding dining experience. What a great restaurant and what a great team! We cannot recommend the Holborn Dining Room strongly enough - we'll definitely be back again on our next visit. Great place, great food excellent service - file under "Not to be missed"!
Myself and my friends had a wonderful meal here, can’t fault anything, the food, the service, the atmosphere were all wonderful. Highly recommend!
Lamb was dry and inedible
Pies just alright
Expensive for what it was
I’ve eaten had Michelin Star restaurants. This is not one, but for the price point it should be comparable. It is not comparable. The food was average but expensive.
Great food, great service, great experience. Will be visiting again!
Elegant ambience. Friendly and warm service, just a bit of wait between the starters and the mains and the dessert wine didn't arrive at the same time of the dessert. Overall, excellent food (maybe the charcuterie not as excellent as the rest) but a tad too pricey. Would recommend to anyone who wants to treat him/herself to a special evening, in an elegant surrounding and eating excellent British food.
The venue is interesting and attractive. The service was outstanding with very friendly and efficient serving staff. We all chose the specialities of the house (being the various pies) as our main dishes. The food was good but we felt it was rather expensive. We felt the noise level in the restaurant was completely unacceptable; this was partly due to the loud and intrusive music. Perhaps a venue more suited to the younger generation (assuming they could cope with the relatively high prices).
Welly Wednesday’s special is Beef Wellington. An absolutely stunning dish. I thought the Pork Pie was good on my previous visit, but the Wellington surpasses it.
Add great service and you have a memorable meal.
Not cheap (hence value score) but excellent
We went to Holborn Dining Room after hearing about it’s handmade pies on Radio 4’s Food Programme. There is also a really well made video on YouTube that showcases the chef and his passion for pies and his quest to present customers with his handmade creations. Unfortunately the actual experience falls well short of the proposition. There were only four pie options available and were part of much wider brasserie style menu. The actual pies were very nicely made and tasty but very small and eye wateringly expensive with side dishes charged as extra. The dining room, although well presented, had a ‘passing-through’ almost airport lounge restaurant feel and not the hallowed pie emporium communicated by the video. A real shame because the idea of a handmade pie mecca is a good one.
Very enjoyable. The pies are excellent as was the service. Really rate this place.
I always enjoy having drinks at its bar area and the ambiance is pretty relaxed and staffs are friendly. I ordered G&T which were quite special and nice
We had a business lunch for 5 people on 1 April 2019. We were quickly served and our drinks and food orders taken unobtrusively and quickly. We were there at peak service, food arrived in good time, we could talk without shouting and had enough space between tables to talk freely. On food, one of our guests was a bit disappointed that they don’t allow steaks to be served ‘blue’ and so he plumbed for fish and chips instead. The frantipane tart pastry was so stiff to be impenetrable but the filling was divine. Otherwise, the food was exemplary, tasty, freshly cooked, hot, the product of an impressive and hardworking kitchen team. I would recommend this venue for an efficient and impressive lunch.
Sadly this restaurant didn’t meet up to my expectations.
My server was not very attentive, was borderline rude & clearly didn’t want to be there.
The table next to us got very annoyed at the lack of service being given.
The food was ok but a bit pricey for what it is.
If you are charging these prices, the food and service really should be exceptional.
The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, I loved the bar and the cocktails.
Very mediocre food
Great food, drinks are a little pricey, most amazing venue.
So good to finally visit this restaurant! What an amazing pastry chef Calum is!!
Good selection for breakfast but extremely expensive
Not my first time but it is booking through OpenTable. Always love coming back time after time. Does get a bit noisy but it adds to the atmosphere experience.
Wonderful food and outstanding service. Would recommend for business lunches.
Really nice experience- suitably environment for a low key business meeting
Food was amazing would definitely go back the room wasn’t too noisy considering the size. We didn’t feel rushed and had a suitable amount of time to eat our meal. Far too full for pudding which is a shame as they looked lovely.
Been before many times, today was not the same.
Disappointed with the service.
Waiters not attentive at all, had to get up to ask for a drink while in the restaurant there were only 10 tables.
Scotch egg came luke warm ... roast beef was lovely.
Atmosphere overall was ok.
This restaurant is overpriced and the food was not good at all.
The pork belly had so much fat it was not edible.
Wine, horribly expensive Sauvignon £56 bottle!!!
Awesome place with spectacular food.Excellent service, great food recommendations from staff.
The pies and apple tart tatin were to die for! Lovely service and great atmosphere. Will definitely come back!
Excellent service from start to finish matched with perfect food and cocktails. They even did something nape iso for my fiancé who was celebrating her birthday. An excellent pre-theatre dining experience! Thank you!
We couldn’t have had a more delightful meal. The service was impeccable from start to finish. The sommelier was helpful and our food was delicious. Definitely order a pie. They even let us go into the Pie Room! So gracious- it was a memorable meal on our trip to London.
Booked for a special lunch. Negroni special cocktail was divine. The food was delicious and well served, the pies, a speciality, were amazing. The ambience was excellent and did not feel it was over busy or noisy as it began to fill up. The only element which took longer was payment of the bill. The staff were many but seemed to forget we might want to leave at some point! High recommended.
Great lunch overall, fish and chips was ok, the fish was watery which impacted the crispiness of the batter.
