Great food, nice venue, excellent staff and they don’t rush you
Very good food, slightly overpriced but it makes sense for the overall experience. Would go back!
Incredible food and even better service, the perfect place for a date night!
Valentine’s Day and promotion
Fantastic and beautifully presented pies. Also really enjoyed the burratta and the baked Alaska. Very friendly and attentive service. Lovely atmosphere. Also loved the gin menu and the fact they have their own gin.
Quite busy at the high bar tables but a lovely environment in which to enjoy an excellent meal in the dining room
Food - I was so excited for the pies, and the pastry was amazing, but the pies were too heavy, the mash was too salty, lobster tart too heavy on mustard and burnt caramel sauce on the pudding, and all had to be sent back. It must have been a bad day in the kitchen.
Service - managers are great; quick to admit to issues and change / comp, sommelier was fantastic, but the waitstaff were charmless.
Ambiance - great, lovely room!
Beautiful room, great range of dishes, but what really makes Holborn Dining Room is pastry. I don't exaggerate when I say they do the best pies I've ever eaten. Wednesdays sees a 'special' Beef Wellington which was my choice this evening and which is a complete show stopper. The staff always provide impeccable service.
A very special treat
Overall an excellent dining experience. The food is sensational, simple in many ways but executed beautifully. Good portion sizes, and you can really see the care and attention that has gone into creating certain dishes (particularly the pies). Service in general was excellent and most of the waiting staff were polite and attentive (drinks regularly topped up, etc). Had some delays with the sommelier when choosing a wine which resulted in the wine arriving halfway through the main but overall very good service.
Beautiful restaurant. The chicken pie and scotch egg were delicious!
We visit a few times a year and recommend to the majority of clients for upmarket British brasserie offering, and generally enjoy a good time here. We're often excommunicated to the social Siberia of the far corners, but service tends to keep us in the game. The table sizes are rather stifling for a leisurely business lunch and noise levels can rise when busy. The pies are indeed good, and the food offering is solid all round. It never hits the elan of a Corbin & King establishment, but for a dependable (but slightly pricey) venue in this slightly off-grid part of town it can be a useful go-to. Pop to Scarfe's Bar for a snifter if it's open!
Rather expensive for what was fairly average food. My starter was 6 prawns on a plate, nothing exciting at all. Main course was a steak, nice meat but again nothing special, I have nice steaks before at half the price. My husbands pie was really boring and definitely reheated. For a place specialising in pies, with an AMAZING pie making room it was disappointing. Service was attentive and a very buzzy vibe in the restaurant.
Excellent food. Steak and kidney pudding was amazing!
Great!! Superb service!!
Excelent taste! Wine selection according to the menu.
The food was very good , the service was really kind but the place was a little bit too noisy and it was a little cold
Tkanks for this Nice moment
Basically fine... service wavered between over attentive to under. Annoyingly the wine glasses were overfilled in a bit very well disguised attempt to “finish” each bottle and get another ordered. People drink at different speeds so overfilling everyone is not smart. Pies were average and nothing special. Our guests were foreign so a little disappointing for them. Steaks looked good. The evening was perfectly acceptable but could and should have been a notch or two better.
Great welcome, immediate understanding of the purpose of our party's reunion and subsequently we were offered sharing and drink tasting experiences. Also, the food delivery was timed to my wishes which made it easier on the service staff because it was very busy. Excellent food and drink.
Nice grand dining room, a tad noisy. Traditional and revisited British and European dishes, of very good quality. A tad expensive. Could have more beers (ales) on tap. Shame the Wednesday special of the day had sold out when we arrived for our reservation at 8:30pm. Also not clear on website how to book a spot in the pie room. My Comte onion & potato pie and my crumble desserts were deliberate simple choices but very delicious.
Food was excellent and service at the table was very good. However, we won't return. The noise level is very high (including loud music at the end of the evening when most guests had departed). When we arrived the hostess wouldn't seat us until everyone had arrived and all coats were taken, telling us it would be one minute, five minutes, two minutes even though we had a reservation and it was past the reservation time. The table was clearly empty and ready but they wanted us to wait in the bar. Not very welcoming, and just too difficult to have a conversation with all the noise. A shame because the food was great.
Great food, great service and overall experience is fantastic.
Rather expensive, maybe because the place seems to be rather over-manned.
Always consistent and welcoming. Return as always always a pleasant experience with great menu
Service was terrible. We had to ask to order food and then again to order wine. 45 minutes passed between starter and main, we then proceeded to pour our own wine all meal, seems they were perhaps understaffed.
Complained to the manager at the end of the meal, Zuber, and to our surprise we weren’t even offered an apology!
An unfortunate experience considering the food here is so good, we won’t be returning.
Amazing food and service! Will definitely be going back
The meal was quite expensive, especially the vegetable side orders, overall but as it was for a special occasion it was memorable and the staff were very helpful.
Outstanding service, elegant but relaxed environment. Lovely food, with pies being an highlight of the lunch. Wine list is quirky and interesting, not many options under £50 but the quality of wines justifies the expense. Brough a friend from LA here and what a lovely English brasserie experience to remember this was. Will be back!
Amazing from start to finish. Highly recommended. Food and wine and service were all first class.
The waiter reassured me I’d have a great dining experience ‘despite being on your own, today ma’am’. Then ignored my asking for tap water. 😠 I didn’t feel brave enough to protest when the bill came. I have a medical condition which means I can’t eat a great deal so asked for a doggy bag. The gentleman looked down his nose and said ‘this is not a takeaway, what we prepare is cooked to be served here’. As a result I did not order a main. Asked me if I wanted change from my money, despite my already paying that standard 12.5 per cent service. In my experience, I let you know if I want change, not the other way round. PS. The prize-winning Scotch egg-was too salty; the kale with bacon extremely mean with the bacon; the baked Alaska with pear and lemon was amazing and I shall dream of it for eternity; and the Paris-Brest pastry with salted caramel and praline was actually the reason I went back this time. But maybe not again. I do understand a restaurant sets its policy. It’s an odd one, and probably the reason you won’t see this poor woman again, so very unfortunate to be sitting eating by herself with a book. 🙄
Excellent evening was had by all, service somewhat slow, food good, well worth a visit
Delicious food and wine
Great staff, really accommodating and went the extra mile, made us feel welcome and also swapped a couple of menu items that we didn’t like.
Fantastic food, atmosphere and service. Highly recommend.
Fantastic Service... Food was delicious too.
Highly recommend the Steak Tartare. Thank you for a lovely lunch.
I've been here many times and liked it very much. This time the food didn't really hit the spot - portions are large, it is well presented, etc. but just wasn't that special for the high price. They got my order wrong despite the waiter taking immense efforts to write it down correctly so they had to remove all the food and re-present it again 10 mins later. The service is charming, pleasant and attentive. There are plenty of staff. It was pretty loud this time. We tried to go to the bar for a quick drink before and weren't allowed in by the bouncer as it was too full. The cocktail menu in the restaurant was so obscure I gave up and had water. If you've read The Dinner (Herman Koch) you get the idea! As I've said, been here a lot and all other visits were great so don't be put off. It is a lovely room with lovely people. Don't fill up on bread though!
The staff were polite and attentive. The location was well positioned with easy access for tube. The décor was great and the layout was good (not on top of each other)
Great fish and chips, great mutton pie, but steak and kidney pudding way too salty. Kale also over-salted.
As usual the food (we both had a fairly light lunch of smoked haddock) was very good; in particular their mash is always very tasty! The service is always excellent from the elegantly attired staff.
This was my first time at Holborn and sadly was externally disappointed. A table of 3 on a Saturday night, we were put almost in the corner of the restaurant and most definitely forgotten about. Starters took little over 45 mins to arrive after having to flag down a waiter to place our order. We had 3 different pies when the mains arrived and all were dry sadly. Had high expectations for this meal but sadly didn’t deliver and over priced.
Perfect, amazing venue great no fuss food, impeccable service.
Lovely meal, great service and the best pie i've had in my life: comfort food for the soul. The wine list is excellent, too. Also there are often some real gems to be found here by the glass thanks to coravin. Another super dinner: many thanks to the team who looked after my friend and I on Friday evening.
Excellent Mutton and Potato pies and wonderful ambience
