What Insiders Are Saying
The Holborn Dining Room is a big and grand, but still casual, all day restaurant inside the Rosewood Hotel, serving posh British comfort food.
Quite hard to hear when it’s busy
Wonderfully fitted out restaurant in London’s Rosewood Hotel. Superb food (especially the pies!) and charming service. However, the pricing is rather robust (reflecting its hotel location) and the bill can easily add up.
The most jobs worth attitude when it came to the staff. The food was cold, forgot to send out bread (brought that at the end of the entire meal). Shame really because my son was visiting from the US for my birthday celebration and we all agreed that the service, food and attitude of the staff would have been better in a three star hotel - no point in having such a beautiful building and surroundings if this is what is on offer
Lovely lunch, tasty Sunday lunch and amazing wine.
Food was poor and overpriced- steak was cold, tartare wasn’t of usual standard. Disappointing.
Great food, good service, very loud lunch service.
Best steak and kidney pudding I've ever had. Blissful! Top-notch service, too. Wines are priced a bit greedily compared with places of similar excellence.
Disappointed with HDR. Service was inattentive and slow. Food OK not great. Scrambled eggs needed more seasoning.
Very good good and attantive service.
Do not order fish in this restaurant over cooked Dover sole not once but twice maybe a trip to the ivy for some cooking lessons
Everything else was lovely
Terrific evening with three friends who had flown in from various Euro capitals - one is a pie fantatic. But it was not just the pies that made the evening - our waiter was a delight too. I left the others to the pies and had the fish of the day - a good value and perfectly cooked lemon sole. The restaurant had just the right amount of buzz and vibe. I could wish for some slightly more economical choices on the wine list...
Great food, nice service, wonderful place and not very expensive. I will definitely come back
Yes if they have a big budget and are looking for a place around the area.
The restaurant is a beautiful space - large, light, airy - lots of brass rails, all very Belle Époque and very pleasing. Tables though are a bit close together and noise levels are high. Service was friendly and attentive without being pushy. The menu has a wide selection but I was here for the much-vaunted pies, as were my companions. Starters were a bit underwhelming - my squid was nice enough, but the gentleman’s relish mayonnaise had made only the briefest acquaintance with patum peperium. For £12 I expected something more special. The pies - or in my case, the steak and kidney pudding - were the main event. Mine was rich and unctuous and nicely flavoured. My friends were similarly complimentary about the pork pie and the mutton pie with curry sauce. So far so good. The Parmesan fries were very good, as was the creamed spinach and the cavolo nero - but £6 each seemed on the steep side. The wine list was comprehensive but madly expensive.
So .. expensive and uninspired starters, a very nice pie, pricey wine. It could have been so much nicer. I doubt I will return.
We wanted to try the real British cuisine and chose Holborn Dining. The gin drinks were fabulous. I don't like gin at all but the one I had was delicious. The service was excellent! The atmosphere and the room wonderful. The British pies we chose were good and baked with care. We had a nice evening and the waiter who took care of us, Ignacio, was very responsive and caring. A perfect evening.
Excellent location at the Rosewood in Holborn. The pies are incredible. A good wine list and reasonably priced for the location and overall quality.
Nice varied menu. The steak and kidney pudding is a must!! Wine carafes were good value. Will definitely return soon.
Old school pies were amazing. Steak and kidney pudding with suet base was the best ever.
Exceptional in every way - go and experience Welly Wednesdays for the best beef wellington you’ll ever eat
We went there for the pies, but for some reason steaks seems appropriate. We were not disappointed. Best steak I've had in London. Also had squid as an app, brussel sprouts and lots of other excellent food!
Eaten here a few times now and the food is generally very good. What makes this place a special occasion though is the service. Always first rate, friendly, attentive without being overbearing.
Great selection of wines and spirits and a wonderful ambience.
One of my favourite options for dining in the City.
Very slow service indeed. Scotch egg was overly salty.
Great restaurant and great food. Well worth a visit.
Over priced, overhyped and service that needs a kick up the backside.
Food portions are not generous. Waiting staff were fine but just there a bit too much always reaching over the tables trying to clear things.
After lunch we sat at the wonderful gin bar which really saved the day. Had incredible fun working through lots of delicious gins being suggested by staff.
Slow service (this is not the first time I've experienced this.) Waiting staff didn't really seem to know who was supposed to be looking after what. You would normally expect a much slicker operation for the price of it.
This place is a gem. Took a "staycation" in London recently booking in the Rosemont and dining in the Holborn. The food and service were fantastic.
My wife loved the signature pies and i enjoyed the steak.
We loved it so much we came back for a weekend lunch with family. Ambiance is slightly different in the day (the room and lighting is much brighter), but still not loud which lent for good conversations and a sensational list of meal options.
They didn’t have a record of your booking and said they don’t deal with open table any more.
Poor service by you - how do I know that my bookings with you work?
Efficient friendly service and wonderful food, with refreshing takes on classic English dishes. Nothing was disappointing but be aware you need sides with pies! And that the wine list gets steep pretty quickly, even for this level of place.
What a gorgeous place! The food was irresistible- I only wish my tummy was bigger!
A fantastic evening. Thank you
Great choice for last minute reservations as the restaurant is very spacious and the food is excellent. Lively atmosphere and attentive staff guarantee a nice meal out.
As always - glamorous surroundings, great food and excellent service. What’s not to like?!
Great pies! Really good atmosphere and nice him cocktails/espresso martinis!
I go back again and again.
Been here a few times now. The ambience is elegant yet relaxed. Great for a catch up meal as you can actually hear each other!
Food is always spot on, even if a bit overpriced.
Couldn’t recommend the Sunday roast enough. Will be back again and again.
Overall it was fantastic!
A few tiny things could’ve made it perfect though! (Sauce with the pork pie needed to be thicker, more of the peas were needed with the chicken pie to balance out the slight dryness, more seasoning across the board)
However they do have the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever tasted in my life!
Will definitely be returning
First time here as it was recommended by a chef I work with who is friends with Calum Franklin.
From start to finish it was flawless.
Will 100% be back again.
I popped in for a quick early dinner and went for one of the pies for which this place is famous, and it was delicious. A large room that is also surprisingly cosy, with great service. Not cheap but worth it!
Environment and atmosphere are relaxed but chic, no noise, staff very professional and caring, food simply delicious. Highly recommended.
