What Insiders Are Saying
The Holborn Dining Room is a big and grand, but still casual, all day restaurant inside the Rosewood Hotel, serving posh British comfort food.
Good venue for breakfast meeting. Excellent location
I have been twice and am, unfortunately, always underwhelmed by the food.
We went to experience the famous pies and were not disappointed.
5/7 would go again.
A fancy location of wide dimensions, waiters in appropriate clothing by a designer, food is in a range of classics and pasties, quick service, so that you will have finished in short time
Very grand and architecturally interesting resturant. Food, wine and service were all good but it was expensive.
Had an excellent business lunch here. The service was efficient and friendly and the food quite good. Recommend the pies.
Great location and nice ambiance, this restaurant has UK sourced food. We had a business lunch for 4. The portions were quite small for the price paid. £21 for small fillets of stone bass. Sides were too small to share. I hope my customers had enough to eat. The quality was good, but not great value for money. The wine list however was superb, if expensive.
Delicious pies and gin, as hoped for! Nice, buzzy atmosphere too.
I had an amazing meal on Saturday night! Second time I had been to the restaurant and it was worth coming all the way from Glasgow! Food was top notch and the service was great. Thanks for a great night and looking forward to my next visit when I'm down in London.
Finding the restaurant in the hotel and getting in was rather an issue. We first walked into another restaurant, told the stewardess that we had a table at the Dining Room. She directed us and we set off. On the way we had to pass through a door, which we couldn’t do. Another employee was discussing something with another customer, but also seemed to make it his business to give us assistance we did not require. So, we had to wait in the middle of the garden for him to finish with the other customer, then quiz us and let us through. Finally we made it to the restaurant ...
This was the worst meal I have ever had dining out.
If I could give the food zero stars I would.
Absolutely disgusting tasting pork pie - cost £20 - unedible.
Great menu, good service, interseting gin bar. We loved the pies!
This restaurant is tucked away in a little oasis near Holborn station it’s very traditional however not stuffy both the front of house and the kitchen are at the top of their game with fantastic food and service delivered every time.
Very expensive for drinks, very cramped seating and noise level high. Saving grace food was superb
Second visit, brilliant on both occasions. Amazing skill on the pies, which all have seriously comforting flavours. Would jump at the chance to go back.
The pies!!!!!!!!!!! It’s all about the pies. Great service lovely dining room all round good place
We went specifically to try the pies and were not disappointed.
I thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere.
I liked that I was able to converse without having to shout, it has a very relaxed and chilled vibe.
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding.
I would highly recommend and will return in the near future.
Hi We enjoyed our time and the staff were very attentive. The pies were good but both them and the gravies were very over salted. Steak and kidney pudding was almost all kidney!
Lovely food especially the Chips, but very attentive and friendly waiting staff.
Welcome on arrival and table seating was excellent as well.
Lovely food. Great range of pies. Fabulous cocktails. The service was super. Very attentive but not overly formal. Having been previously at lunchtime I thought I would enjoy the restaurant and I did. However it was a very different atmosphere to lunchtime and I probably the evening.
A lovely place - really nice atmosphere, attentive service and the food was delicious. We had three vegetarians in our party and the veggie options were lovely (two of the three options were tried).
Great food and great service! Can’t ask for more. The building is also beautiful and it’s a real treat to go here, without it being too expensive.
Excellent meal. The pies are a real treat. Great gin selection.
Food ok , service good , nice venue . Food is all show no taste . Disappointing
The best grilled prawns in town!
Wine was cellar temperature, which is a bit cold for red wine. Plates were cold, so the food (steak) also did not keep its temperature.
Extremely helpful and polite staff. Hotel was fantastic high class the perfect place for any occasion.
Full English breakfast was lacking, would have expected more. No toast included and coffees took a while to arrive. Underwhelming for the money we paid.
Perfect Pies, Glorious Gins & the best chips i've ever eaten!!!
One of my favourite spots in London, the perfect combination of quality food and service with a relaxed atmosphere. The food is outstanding, as are the cocktails, and the ambiance is cool, old-work Art Deco. Can’t wait to go back.
I follow Chef Calum on instagram and so had been looking forward to one of his pies for a little while. They (I tried everyones in our party) did not disappoint! Quite literally exceptional on every level.
To start our scotch egg and octopus with chorizo was divine. Which after being told there was no thermador tart I expected to be tainted with a whiff of disappointment but no... I’ll just go back for the tart another time. A pal was slightly disappointed with the scallops but only by comparison because ours were such flavour powerhouses.
I had the chicken, girolles and tarragon pie. It made my heart go BOOM in a big way. And the taste and texture of the Steak & Kidney pudding was winning and had me converted. The famous pork pie really exceeds any expectations you may have (even having read a Jay Rayner description) and the deliciously unusual but perfect curried mutton pie had us mopping up every last drop of the gravy. Hats off chef, you make a fine pie.
Both wine choices were excellent. Tart tatin to share for the table was an exquisite sweet finish.
Two tiny gripes. The round tables for four under the front windows are a little on the tight side. The chaps were banging knees and we couldn’t have coolers and wine on the table with glassware, food and sides. The spring greens (cabbage) were not at all generous or that interesting for the price.
Dining room is gorgeous and staff friendly and good but not exceptional.
We will be back and would highly recommend. I can’t think of a better place to indulge in a three course pastry feast.
The food was very good, particularly the pies. Felt we were packed in and the seating was not comfortable. Quite big and noisy overall.
Holborn Dining Room was a home run on every level. It had great ambiance, delicious food, tasty british food with an updated flavor, excellent service and a good location.
The food was good and well presented but the service was appalling and very much spoilt the evening. There were plenty of servers around but all bar one were unable to perform the simplest of tasks such as taking an order or clearing the table! The manager was equally poor and ignored all our efforts to attract her attention.
I chose The Holborn Dining Room for an important business lunch. The venue is very attractive and spacious but we were shown to a tiny table squeezed next to the water bottles. I would recommend asking for a booth, much more appealing.
Service was patchy but friendly, a long wait to get a menu and a drink didn't give a good initial impression. We decided to go for house specials, scotch egg and pies for main course. I have to say that the egg was excellent but unfortunately the pies didn't deliver as expected. There was a lengthy wait, 30 minutes is mentioned on the menu but it took much longer than that although we did get an unprompted update at one stage. My guest was non committal about his curried mutton, I think he was being polite as he is a great foodie and has praised previous venues we have visited. The main issue with my steak and kidney pudding was that it was hugely over salted. Under normal circumstances I would have sent it back but we were at an important point in our discussions which I didn't want to disrupt.
We may have been unlucky that day but coupled with an expensive wine list I wouldn't book again. I was looking for something special but left with a large bill and a feeling of disappointment.
We have developed a good relationship with Holborn dining Room and receive exceptional service. The staff are very professional, the food is sumptuous and service is impeccable. Most of our usage is Business related luncheons several times a week. A hidden gem! The Terrace has been a superb addition during the summer.
Perfect. My fiancée and I have wanted to go for years and so visited for her 30th birthday. It was even better than we expected and we had very high expectations. The team did not disappoint.
Best charcuteries and pies I've had in years. Quality of the food and cocktails was amazing, with flavours that really were impressive. The decor and atmosphere was very appropriate to our get together with friends and service very well delivered, in spite of our very complex requirements! Would go back to try more of the menu, and cocktails!
The food is just about worth what is being charged.
The service was friendly but chaotic and we waited much longer than we should have to give our order.
The pork pie was great. Wine less great largely because despite taking time to ask about the wine of our waitress we didn't find out until later that there was a more extensive wine list. Starter of octopus was ok, nothing to wow. Did I say the pork pie was great? It was!
