I am a Sunday lunch regular. The ambiance and the food are always good however the service lets the place down horribly. The staff are all young and seemingly inexperienced and although there are lots of them the service is always slow and not particularly engaging which is a pity as the dining room is never more than quarter full on a Sunday lunch. Training, training, training is desperately required.
It is always amusing to me that the hotel operator spends millions on fabulous décor and seemingly next to zero on training their staff to deliver equivalent levels of service.
An example of this is receiving our cocktails only after we had finished our starters !
Amazing meal with sublime cocktails. Very high quality in all regards, and a mind boggling gin menu.
We were given a table in the courtyard outside, which had a terrific ambiance. The food was expertly prepared and delicious (which you would expect for the price) and the service was excellent.
Great food and surroundings, but terrible service! Staff weren’t attentive, slow at best and rude at worst. Also, for somewhere that prides itself on its extensive gin collection, I was dissapointed to find my favourite gin out of stock!
Our first time dining with you and a wonderful experience! Our server, don’t know his name unfortunately but young and Italian, was extremely attentive and very enthusiastic about his work. The perfect way to spend a very special evening, we will most certainly be back!
We had an excellent lunch. I relished the combination of fine cooking and highly professional staff with informality and a welcome for people of all incomes and ages (particularly welcome when a number of hotels (the Savoy, the Ritz, eg) have become more stiff-necked.. The staff were particularly sympathetic when my son had to suddenly go off for an hour to be let in to his flat. I would happily dine here again.
a good atmosphere the food was excellent and the garden on a sunny day was lovely
I had been looking forward to going to Holborn Dining Room for quite some time as I had been recommended highly by a friend.
I found the service to be quite slow and the food a bit bland which was truly disappointing. I don't think we will return considering the other great restaurant offerings in London.
Amazing as always. The service is exceptional and the food is great. Special shout out to Patrick who served us.
A first class restaurant in a beautiful building. The service was, in general, excellent. The only slight flaw was that we had to wait quite a long time for the dessert. However, the Lemon Curd Slice was with the wait. It’s not cheap by any means and the wine is particularly expensive even for Central London but this seems to be the case in many London restaurants now.
This is the second time I have visited. Each time I have found everything to be just right. The food, the service ,the wine and the ambiance. Its just a good secure place to eat a meal. I dont think its absolutley gourmet but just good honest dishes exceptionally well prepared. The menu choice is greta with fish, charcuterie, pies and meats. It is quite highly priced,
We'd seen that some other chefs, notably Tommy Banks, came here for their pies and a quick search on social media showed why.
Service was bright and friendly and staff were really knowledeable. The gin bar is amazing and allegedly the largest in London.
But on to the main event, the pies! We had the dauphinoise potato, aged Comte cheese and caramelised onion pie and a steak and kidney suet pudding. They were outstanding and by some distance the best pies we've had bar none. Someone there loves their pastry!
We will be coming back for dinner and to explore the menu further in future. Great place.
My brother and I were there for dinner. We first set at the bar for a drink and the barman was really professional, very nice! We had him preparing a couple of gin and tonics to discover.
Then we were escorted to our table. The ambience is really nice, table and seats were comfortable.
The waiting staff really professional and attentive.
Food was good, I had grilled octopus and then a burger as for my brother he had a dish of green asparagus as a started which was really small like 5 small pieces. The waiter should tell the client about the small portion. Then he had a rib-eye, and the meat was really good.
Overall experience was good but not outstanding, apart the barman. Quite overpriced.
I would return but for drinks at the bar only.
Great atmosphere, with polite and friendly staff. The food was lovely and full of flavour. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for somewhere different to dine. It is one of my favourites.
We went for fathers day and everything was brilliant! Really appealing menu, smart staff, gorgeous dining room with a great atmosphere, so a good venue for a special occasion. Also felt cosy and comfortable.
The food was absolutely delicious, well cooked, generous portions.
I loved it and will be back again!
Great dinner! Amazing pie - 2nd visit in two weeks!
Very impressed with this place, started in the bar and then moved into the dining room for a delightful fish dinner. Highly recommend.
One comment for the team to consider - the wine list escalates quite dramatically so only a couple around £40 then suddenly up to £70-80s, and you don’t want to pay that esp on a Rursday night! The £42 wine we had was delicious
The main thing to say about Holborn Dining Room is that the food is fantastic. Yes, the setting is great, the atmosphere is excellent, the wine list highly impressive and the service very good but those are all secondary to the sheer quality of the food. Will be going back again as I want to try everything on the menu (but may just having the same again as it was SO good).
We felt rushed as our orders were taken by an inept waiter who knew nothing about the dishes offered. Service was extremely slow, we waited 45 minutes for our main dish. We are not going back in a hurry.
As part of the beautiful hotel Rosewood Hotel, the food was delicious, service was great and ambience was delightful. Menu has all the English favourites. Our sticky toffee pudding was slightly burn on the top. When we brought it to their attention they didn't charge us for it. Will gladly go again.
Service très aimable, ambiance un peu bruyante sur la terrasse extérieure du fait du passage des voitures
Excellent food and service with no rushing between courses
Overpriced drinks and average food
We had a fantastic time and the food was delicious !
Lovely room. Service was a bit inattentive. Best Scotch egg with an amazing caper relish but the pies were just fine. Sticky toffee pudding tasted a bit too bitter for me.
;P great service, would highly recommend to anyone
Salade de poulet un peu fade mais pie et pâté en croûte délicieux!!!
Excellent all round from our experience in the bar with the superb staff, friendly and knowledgable to the great experience in the restaurant. Great food great service and again friendly efficient staff, we will return.
The location should deliver more than very a basic breakfast. Uninspired and rather ordinary, with zero flair.
The staff are all ‘dressed’ which gives a higher expectation.
First time here - and the last.
We had breakfast - waited 45 mins for Poached Eggs on toast and it turns out that you pay £7 for two eggs and an extra £1 for toast - a complete rip off.
To be fair the bill was reduced by 50% because of the delay but overall this was an experience to forget.
From first greeting to final farewell the service here was friendly and attentive. The ambience and appearance of the dining room was excellent and our banquette table was comfortable and well -spaced. The only thing I felt was that it was a little too low for the table height, but that is a very small issue. Everything about the food and drink service was slick and discreet. Moving on the food, our choices were excellent and we enjoyed each course. We were a little conscious of time, so the fast pace suited us, but if we were on a date we might, perhaps, have preferred a little longer between courses. The only slight, and unimportant issue we had with the food, was that we both felt that the truffle chips were a little under-cooked and hard, especially the large ones, but as there were so many, we were able to work round this without telling the waiting staff. Overall we had a great meal in lovely surroundings and would definitely pass this way again on another London visit.
I eat here quite often for business lunches and was very, very disappointed with the service on my last visit. I ordered a dish I hadn't had before - the Sweetcorn and Chickpea fritters and was quite surprised when the plate arrived to see almonds scattered over the top - as no nuts were listed on the menu as part of the dish description.
I am anaphylactic to nuts and am always very attentive to noticing whether or not nuts are listed as part of a dish, so this was a huge surprise. I asked the waiter to confirm they were only almonds, but he then told me there were also hazelnuts in the sauce.
I let him know I would be unable to eat the dish, and that I was disappointed that the menu doesn't alert the guest to these two nuts being featured as part of the dish and I simply asked for a new plate of plain fritters and broccoli.
This was naturally a very embarrassing thing to happen when on a business lunch, but what made it worse, was that the waiter told me off both when I sent back the plate and when he brought over my new plate - I do not expect to be scalded by staff when at a business lunch with a guest. He tried to claim the fault was mine and that I wasn't taking my own nut allergy seriously, however the fault actually lies with the restaurant for not disclosing this on the menu.
I would have happily overlooked it and am not one to make a fuss, but I was both shocked and embarrassed that the waiter felt it was okay to speak to a guest like that. If the almonds weren't on the plate, I wouldn't have known about hazelnuts being in the sauce and would have had an anaphylactic attack. It was fortunate I raised this, but to be spoke to like a naughty child by a member of staff in front of a guest was shocking.
I will return as the location suits well for press I meet with from a certain magazine, but would never want to be served by him again. I also recommend adapting the description of this dish on the menu to list the two nuts that are featured.
Lovely meal, excellent service and a beautiful setting!
Ambience and the gin bar is worth going to but the food was very standard unfortunately.
Awesome as always 😀 Great beef, the dining room makes me feel like i am in a movie and good service.
Fab decor. Smart yet casual. Great service - attentive and smart.
Having been before, we enjoyed it even more as the food selection is fantastic
Great food with good service. 5 of us for a birthday dinner. Lovely food and very good service. Thanks.
Great place for breakfast with refreshing tea, scrambled eggs, salmon and toast. Service and food excellent, although flat white was not hot enough.
