Had a lovely afternoon tea for my boyfriend's birthday last week. We were seated immediately at a gorgeous window overlooking Manchester and the host took my coat. Delicious sandwiches that worked well together and they were refillable! Also couldn't manage all the beautiful cakes so the waiter had these boxed for me! Scrumptuous food and an overall fantastic experience. We will be back in the future! :)
I went here with a friend to celebrate both our birthdays. The food was good, not a lot of choice though. The service was mediocre. Quite an expensive place.
Perfect table with super view in the restaurant, delicious food and wine with impeccable service . Definitely a venue for a special treat.
Food was very nice but the restaurant itself was lacking in atmosphere and when we asked to access to rooftop bar after dinner we were told to wait to see if there was space as it may have had to be kept for their important hotel guests. All just a bit snooty.
Lovely table until a hen do came in and noise went to 0-100 in seconds luckily we were just finishing food was lovely although we wood of preferred more savoury than all the desserts staff were attentive and we would go back again
We really enjoyed fantastic quality of services, foods and drinks!
Sommelier is so reliable.
The decor is quaint and fun and if you are lucky to have a seat by a window the view is amazing. I do think the tables for two are too small and are a little to close together. The service is outstanding, staff friendly and professional and the food is delicious.
Very nice afternoon tea, sandwiches freshly made and lovely scones. Very clean and quirky.
Food rather good and creative. Potatoes were virtually raw which was a bit of a surprise. Main courses very tasty. Cocktail arrived half way through the meal so could do with better coordination. Friendly staff.
Nice view from the 6th floor.
Rather pricey overall but good meal.
Truly enjoyable champagne afternoon tea to celebrate a special birthday. The staff were friendly, helpful and service with a smile ! This restaurant on the sixth floor had a very Art Deco feel and good views of the city centre. Will definitely visit again.
A restaurant with unique character but congested.
It was poorly maintained. A light was flashing intermittently which was rather annoying.
Food was well presented but you might not get what you ordered. Sea trout main dish was meant to serve with oyster (as stated on the menu). The oyster was swapped to mussels. I was not informed about the change.
Shocking service. I ordered a mocktail and a cocktail. I had to remind the waiter twice. It took forever to get served only with the cocktail. The mocktail never come. When i asked the waiter the first time, he gave me a silly smile which i found rather rude.
As a hotel restaurant, this is clearly substandard.
Overall the dining experience was very good, but there were a few small points that prevent me from giving a 5 star review. We booked with an Itison voucher which included two courses and a Martini each but unfortunately there was no body available to make the cocktails. This wasn't a problem for us in particular and we were offered the opportunity to return later however we were on are way to the theatre so this was not possible. So, it may have been better to offer us an alternative standard drink from the bar.
The food tasted delicious but wasn't very warm .....so again I could only give three stars.
All the staff at the hotel and restaurant were very welcoming and pleasant, and we did enjoy the meal overall and we would happily return.
We had afternoon tea at Gotham. We were very disappointed in the quality of the food.
This has been addressed by the hotel without fuss or embarrassment.
Staff are credit to the hotel.
The afternoon tea just lacks 'quality
The sandwiches were dry and edges of the bread very dry. Scones were rock hard more like a biscuit than a scone. Cakes were 'average' but appeared a little dry and tired looking. The custard tart was dry. The custard had thick skin looking as though it had been sitting in a hot kitchen. Not very appetising. There were little things they just don't get right.
No spoons for jam and cream so you have to use your tea spoon from cup and saucer. No tongs for the sugar lumps! How many grubby fingers have touched the lumps.
We have taken afternoon teas in many hotels. If you are ever in Chester go and visit The Grosvenor Hotel and see how Afternoon Tea should be served.
The hotel have addressed this issue without fuss or embarrassment. Staff are a credit.
Not a bad experience as such but nothing special. Lovely mushroom soup starter but the rest of the food was very average. The fish was nice but everything else on my plate tasted of absolutely nothing which in itself is an achievement.
Service was very average too. Had to ask a waiter if we could have a drink after we'd already ordered food. Everything was rushed and not that friendly. It wouldn't bother me if it was somewhere like croma but for the money and location you expect a bit more than is offered here.
Fabulous food, fabulous atmosphere, fabulous service. Highly recommend
Excellent Afternoon Tea experience, one of the nicest in Manchester. Special mention for our waitress Stephanie and to the very friendly concierge who were both so lovely and friendly to myself and my friends. Looking forward to coming again soon.
Finding the place was a bit hard - its above Jamies Italian. The concierge on the door was a bit frosty saying although we had a dinner reservation we might not be able to go for a drink in the bar (we arrived 30 mins early hoping for an aperitif). Having said that the maître'd on the restaurant reception was lovely. Staff in the restaurant were good, quite attentive, but not 100% au fait with the drinks menu. When its £13 and up for a cocktail I would expect they know the menu details.
Starter of pigeon was one of the best pigeon dishes I have tasted and was excited for the main. Sadly the steak seemed smaller than I would expect, was over (medium, requested medium rare) and was quite chewy. Not £28 worth, as it was clearly not chargrilled as per the menu, was lacking in seasoning and actual flavor. Also my sauce was forgotten so it was awkward to request this again and I had to proceed without it for half the course which was a shame. French fries were distinctly average. Clearly not hand cut, and the portion was extremely small for the £4.50 price tag. My colleagues £4.50 side salad was also little more than a garnish. Desert picked the pace up a bit, but was left so disappointed by my steak and measly fries.
Overall a mixed experience. If the mains could be at the standard both in flavor, presentation and style to the starters which were really exceptional I would return. Until then, there are better options in the city if you want fine dining.
Was really looking forward to our afternoon tea and although not a disaster it was underwhelming at best. the presentation of the tea didn't match the decor of the venue and overall was missing the wow factor. I have no doubt the venue is capable of stepping up the whole experience to make me want to go back for more rather than going elsewhere.
We were suitably looked after and were given access to the bar even though we were not staying in the restaurant. The food was the best we have ever tried.
We went for dinner. 2 cocktails, 3 course tasting menu, bottle of wine, coffee, $110 including tip. Cant beat that with a stick. The tasting menu was just 1 hit after another. The mackerel starter was stunning and the Lamb main was simply outstanding. Its got the feel of fine dining, just not the price tag!!!
Absolutely disgusted, Service was rubbish, food wasn’t that good either, when we told the manager he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away, won’t be going again, much better places in Manchester
Very pleasent afternoon tea. Attentive staff. Food preferences catered for and unlimited hot beverages.
Great service and lovely food - perfect for birthday meal for my sister 😊
Staff and food was great, loved every minute of it.
Went on Saturday for afternoon tea with a friend to celebrate our birthdays. Lovely food, filling but not overfacing. Attentive staff, one who provided some history of the building. All in all a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon
Fantastic meal. Excellent service. A real treat and worth every penny. A gem of a place.
Loved the setting and the feel for the hotel. The staff were very welcoming and friendly.
Great views, lovely restaurant and staff. The food was really good. Thoroughly enjoyed eating at this restaurant.
My family and I was looking for that SPECIAL PLACE to celebrate my 65th birthday. High Tea at the Gotham did not disappoint. Beautiful surroundings, delicious food and exceptional service. The staff were friendly, attentive and made us feel very much at home. Their careful attention to our food 'likes and dislikes' meant we had a High Tea that each and every one of us could enjoy. We would highly recommend this venue for special occasions. Our only disappointment was there was no Public Bar to relax in after our meal. Thank you to everyone at the Gotham for a great time.
Went for afternoon tea, the food and service from the staff was amazing. Great place- even the toilets are lush!! Will definitely go again and would recommend to anyone
Just thought a little on the pricey side , had better and cheaper
A special birthday treat for my partner. Very attentive service from the restaurant manager and staff. Made to feel very special and cared for. Food was good - slightly limited menu. Wine choices very good. Love the decor and ambience. Table for 2 very small but positioned by a window so excellent night time views of the city. Good atmosphere and a little busier than I have seen before. Would recommend for a special occasion.
Lovely staff and beautiful surroundings. Brought us a glass of complimentary champagne for birthday which was a lovely touch. Charged a lot for water and food was nice but not really representative of cost. Menu was a little bit limited. Would definately return though.
Extremely disappointed at the food on offer. For £70, the value of the food was unbelievably poor. 4 slices of bread to make extremely average sandwiches, a few petit fours and miniature scones did not constitute a full afternoon tea for two.
Fabulous afternoon, food was amazing and very very posh, made slightly more comfortable by two of the waiters who seemed more locals and had a laugh with us making us feel more welcome than being out of our comfort zone in a place too posh for us usually!
The overall feeling from this evening was excellent. The staff are friendly, attentive but not over bearing. The venue is stylish and interesting. The food is all about the taste and flavour, portions are as you would expect in finer dining but three courses left me feeling pleasantly full.
A few drinks in the bar afterwards and all in all a fantastic night would recommend.
Lovely afternoon tea with great views, great food and great service. Pretty perfect
We went here for afternoon tea. The service was fantastic and the setting is lovely on the 6th floor. You get unlimited tea and coffee and not just refills, you can have any of the speciality coffees too. We have been twice now and the selection of sandwiches and cakes have been different both times. Would definitelt recommend.
Afternoon tea - food lovely but not enough. Needed a couple of extra sandwiches.
First visit and most definitely not the last! Amazing service and fantastically tasty food. Was completely blown away with the whole experience.
