My husband and I went for afternoon tea. We were greeted nicely and our coats were taken. Unfortunately, this was the only good bit of customer service we received. The coffee was not particularly hot and the pot dripped badly on the table cloth. The scenes had been heated up more than once so were extremely crusty. We ate one but not the second one which I actually put out for the birds when I got home. The texture of the syllabub was very dense, not enjoyable. After several attempts to attract someones attention, we received another pot of coffee but the waitress moved off so quickly without leaving us more milk we had to wait again. No one came to ask if everything was okay. So we left. I asked for our coats and was told they were around the corner, not shown there, so had to go hunting for them myself. By the time the takeaway box I'd asked for arrived, I was wearing my coat and was told to go back into the dining room to get the uneaten food myself. I was not impressed.

We went to Horton Grange for afternoon tea, with my mam and my daughter (9), the room we were served in was lovely, with plenty of room to move about. The service was great and the food was delicious. They were happy to provide extra tea for my daughter, and we shared 2 afternoon teas between 3 of us.

The food was good. The service was far from good. The staff, especially the lady who seemed the most senior, had attitude in spades. The gents toilet had an awful smell and when mentioned to a staff member she shrugged her shoulders and walked off. Waited for over 19 minutes in the reception with at least 3 members of staff walking passed who did not even acknowledge our presence. The dining room was very cold again when mentioned clearly no intention of trying to remedy the situation, just agreed and walked off. We felt the nearby radiator which was turned off, and turned it on ourselves and the room did warm up slightly. Sorry for the dreadful service we are highly unlikely to return.

Visited Horton Grange several times now over the past few times for dinner and have always found the food to be excellent and the service very good. However, visited for the first time on a Monday and whilst the food was as good as ever, the service was not up to the usual standard. On this occasion my wife and I took a guest with us as we recommended this was a very good local restaurant. On arrival, it didn't seem as though we were expected. Asked if we wanted to go straight to the table or in to the bar for a drink. We opted for the bar as we always do. Took between 5 and 10 minutes before we were offered a drink and only after I asked. Having got the drinks and having waited between 20 and 30 minutes, I had to ask for the menu. I was then asked if I required the dinner or bar menu - even though my booking was for dinner. The food was as delicious as ever and all three courses were served in a timely manner. After the final course, it seemed the waitress had disappeared. We were not asked if we required coffee so eventually we decided to leave. Having waited in reception for someone to attend to us so that I could pay, I wandered through into the kitchen to see if there was any member of staff there but found no one. Eventually, some one came down stairs on her mobile phone and asked me to wait whilst she wandered off, presumably to finish her call. I could have easily wandered off without paying! In all, we spent around 2 1/2 hours at the hotel, of which about 45 minutes was taken up waiting to be attended to for various reasons. Suffice it to say, we will not be hurrying back and certainly not on a Monday evening.

Last time we were here was about 5 years ago and could not fault at all. However, although lovely venue and very friendly efficient staff, the quality (and quantity of my tomato salad) of the food fell short I feel. My starter of Heritage Tomato salad was indeed tasty - helped by a beautifully dressed salad but the star of the show was .......well, stingy. Raspberry panna cotta was very poor and putting some whipped cream on the top was overkill. Disappointed

Excellent Sunday Lunch with friends. Very relaxed atmosphere, great service (all members of staff were friendly and accommodating) and the food was delicious. We will return for sure!

Afternoon tea was pleasant but sandwich choices very ordinary. Scones delicious. Service very good & they had remembered it was my granddaughters 14th birthday! The room we were in (conservatory) was very basic - not at all luxurious!

Nice to try somewhere different. Pleasant courteous service, Sunday lunch was very traditional , not much imagination but perfectly adequate. The general ambience of the hotel was pleasant if a little tired and in need of some TLC. We may return to check out the evening menu some time in the future.

My husband and I went for afternoon tea as it was our wedding anniversary (we had actually married there in 2010. Since our last, the whole place has been decorated downstairs which was very nice to see. However, we had our afternoon tea in the lounge, which now is over half a dining room, which seemed a bit odd, especially where there was sofas at the far end. We have previously eaten on the conservatory but it was set up to see what a wedding which be like. The food itself was ok, however my husband had to complain about his mango mousse as it had white spots on the top of it. It took a while to attract the staff to our table and she did exchange it but we had both already finished everything by then. The other small desserts didn't taste fresh, as though they had been defrosted, but the rest of the food was about average. The staff didn't seem that friendly, even though they were in and out of the room, and it wasn't made to feel welcome. It was so disappointing as we've had various meals there over the years since we got married at the venue, so I probably wouldn't go there for afternoon tea anymore. The venue itself it beautiful, however, I think the afternoon tea needs possibly changing.

It has been a while since we last visited Horton Grange but am pleased to say that it is as good as always. Food and service was superb. A very enjoyable lunch. Highly recommended.

Been here many times before & as usual the food was lovely (except the mains could have been hotter). Unfortunately the exceptional service & attention to detail which would normally make a meal here a treat was completely missing on this occasion. Which was disappointing. On arrival there was no one to great us. We waited & had go to find someone to let them know we were there for our booking. The young man we found showed us to our table in the drawing room, with no apologies. He left us food menus & returned to ask what we wanted to eat. We asked if we could order a drink first (these had not been offered). We also had to ask for water for the table, a jug of which was brought & put on the table without a word. The mood of the waiter made us feel as if we were an inconvenience rather than a customer. There were no pleasantries or conversation just rather abrupt service. We were not offered bread to go with the butter on the table & had to ask for it, without a word cold crusty buns (rather than warm) were put on our plates. Excellent soufflé & mains. It's a shame the meal was spoilt by the atmosphere created by this member of staff. We declined puddings as we just wanting the meal to be over by this stage. We decided to move to the bar area as we thought it would be more relaxing, where we ordered a drink & a coffee. Again these were brought to the table without a word. When it was clear no sugar was to be brought my husband tried to find the waiter but resorted to knocking on the kitchen door to ask for sugar & some hot milk. We decided to not order any further drinks & call it a night. Again there was no one to obtain our bill from & we again went looking for the waiter. On paying the bill my husband made it clear how disappointing the service had been. Unfortunately he did not notice he had been charged 10% for the dreadful service.

First time for afternoon tea at Horton Grange to celebrate our Mums 88th Birthday. Staff and service were both brilliant and the quality of the food was first class and extremely good value. Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon and will be visiting again very soon.

Food was superb again. Last time we visited the 2 meals for two for £39.50 was automatically applied. It wasn’t this time and after being ignored for half an hour when attempting to get the bill we couldn’t be bothered to argue. No drinks menu, so we just guessed at what we wanted. Really poor. So disappointing after an amazing visit in January.

Lovely afternoon tea and as it was on offer it was good value for money. However, there was a service charge added to the bill of £2.95 which isn't made obvious. I didn't challenge it due to the offer and it being nice food but if I'd paid full price I would have questioned it. Nice place, nice food I will more than likely be back. Website could be updated also as the afternoon tea's are very different.

And depends. I had afternoon tea there which was pretty good. Lunch was lacklustre. On both occasions the service is very lacking. My friend ordered Prosecco with afternoon tea. It didn’t arrive. For lunch my friend said she’d like a soft drink. The reply, “what do you want?” No drink menu. Waited ages for food to arrive. Plates carried with a cloth, suggesting they were hot. They were not, so the food was tepid. But we’d waited so long, and it probably would have been lovely hot, so we ate it. But “Panache of Vegetables” at £3.95 was plain boiled broccoli and boiled carrots. A Panache? Really? And I already had broccoli and my friend, carrots. I sense they’re busy elsewhere. I had to go in search of someone to get the bill. But if you don’t have the trained staff or the time for extra customers don’t allow us to book.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch for my birthday and it was amazing! Gorgeous food, lovely staff, perfect setting. Was not too busy and had a lovely relaxed atmosphere, food was served swiftly and was perfectly cooked. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning :)

We have been here many times in the past , the food remains at a high standard but the standard and quality of service is not at the previous levels for the flowing reasons. 1/ The seating at the table was uncomfortable due to the type seating provided (you try and sitting on these chairs for the duration of a three course meal !!!) . 2/ The waitress on duty that evening could not serve drinks appropriately (no lemon/lime in gin and tonic /did not understand that red wine needs to breath having replaced the top after serving) and serving coffee to us in a tea pot ! The above problems with the service on the night ,in my opinion, are due to the quality or lack of staff training and should be addressed before we would return to your establishment. Overall we did not get value for money considering you take a 10% service ,without asking, when presenting your invoice. I eagerly await your response. Regards Dave Harrison
