Il Mulino New York - Downtown
There’s no place like Il Mulino New York. The luxury Italian restaurant’s flagship Greenwich Village outpost initiated New York’s fine Italian dining trend and is still prized in the city’s elite dining scene. Zagat has rated Il Mulino New York as Manhattan’s No. 1 Italian restaurant for decades and has said the restaurant provides "one-of-a-kind" cuisine filled with delicious flavors, creating an "outstanding Italian classic" restaurant where "every dish is a masterpiece."
Came for lunch restaurant week and NYU graduation. Perfect all the way.
I’ll Mulino is consistently good The problem is Open Table misrepresenting the availability of reservations.
Perfection, from the moment you walk in the door it is clear you are in for a once in a lifetime experience. You are greeted like you are family, the cocktails are superb, the food is beyond your expectations. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and it was definitely a highlight in our 30 years together, the staff made us feel wonderful including singing to us as they presented dessert. If you are celebrating a special occasion look no further. Thank you for making our night so memorable.
The rest was empty on Monday. The food as usual was excellent. I do have one comment. Rest week is listed as 3 courses. When we finished our first 2 we were then told that there would be NO desert. If was either or - a first course or desert. This should have been told to us at the start of the Neal not the end. If rest are going to change the rules they should post them on the site.
Delicious food and superb service!and many complimentary appetizers to start off the meal. The atmosphere is charming and romantic.
Very good upscale Italian restaurant with old world charm (at the W.3rd St. location). They know what they're doing.
The best restaurant in NYC
Great food and service
Il Mulino is consistently one of the best dining experiences you can have in NYC. Period.
My friend and I celebrated her birthday with lunch. The entire staff was attentive without being intrusive, friendly, professional. The food was superb - absolutely a must try more than once, do many interesting choices. The ambiance was calming and luxurious!
Can not wait to go back!
Amazing food. Just perhaps reducing the pace once you sit with all the apetizers would make it a better experience. Still, I would go back anytime
The classic NYC Italian with unbeatable food, great service and predictably high prices. But worth it.
I never miss having lunch at the original IL MULINO when in NYC. It is my favorite & this includes many terrific Italian restaurants I have dined in around the world including may regions of Italy.

Always great nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
We had to struggle to get to the restaurant through many street closures due to parades and street celebrations. When we arrived, it was like a little oasis in complete chaos. The staff was beyond wonderful and the food was outstanding! We went on the recommendation of a friend, now we'll happily be the recommenders to our friends!
Another great meal at I’ll Mulino. The appetizers given to the table were good but very oily. The zucchini was greasy. The Bronzino was very very good but the baked clams were boring. As usual the waiter was attentive and charming.
Excellent ! Fabulous staff !
One of the best restaurants in the country! Wish I could go back to NY tonight and sneak in for dinner!
Had a back corner table - best in the house. Food was unbelievable and service too. Parmesan cheese chunks, salami bites, fried eggplant, and garlic bread to start the evening make this a unique New York experience. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu although the specials (4-5) are always worth trying. Haven't been back for 5 years but it hasn't changed a bit. You don't need a fancy inside if the food is as good as this place. Worth the price and BTW the wine selection is just as incredible.
Great appetizers sent out from kitchen. Included parm, breads, garlic roasts, olives.. just lovely. We lucked out and we able to park in the street. Food was yummy. Service was impeccable. Loved the house made limoncello as a comp at the end of the meal. Thank you for a great night.
The service was extraordinary and the food excellent.
Never disappoints. Some of the best food ever. And the service is great too.
Il Molina never disappoints. First class food, service, and ambiance. Our go to restaurant in NYC.
Spectacular. Soup to nuts best food in town.
Very good, upscale Italian. Very good service. Refined atmosphere. A classic but not cheap, that’s for sure. Will return. I always do.
It’s like dining in Italy. Very old fashioned with large wait staff. Restaurant is kept so dark that you can’t even read the menu. Food is ver good but pricy. Save for a special occasion
Amazing first class service and wonderful wine selections. Highlights were the cheese and octopus
I hadn’t been to Il Mulino in a long time and it was a great and reasonable treat during Italian restaurant week for lunch. The food is wonderful and I think this may be the best Italian restaurant in New York City.
In NYC for a concert with friends. Had always wanted to try Il Mulino. The service from the time we sat down until we left was outstanding. The food was excellent quality and plentiful ... more than you probably need to eat. A bit on the expensive side, but hey, it’s New York.
Wonderful classic Italian meal and great experience. We come here for special events every few years, and it never disappoints. We love the giant Parmesan wheel and welcome starters. Excellent fresh pasta and veal. Great service from friendly professionals.
Every member of the staff was top notch. Our dinners were great and the complimentary Grappa was a nice touch. Special thanks to George. It was wonderful to talk with Claudio whom we met over 20 years ago when he was a waiter/captain.
Dinner was great
Firstly the food was amazing, everything we ordered was fresh, tasted great and was cooked to perfection. The service was acceptable, however with the army of staff I expected more attentive service (ie. the waiter missed a salad when we ordered).
The restaurant itself looks like a scene from the '70s, which for the price I expected more, however, others in our party loved it.
They've still got it! We had not been to Il Mulino ( only go to the 3rd St location) in 20 years so I was concerned that it had changed. It has not- whew. Intimate and unpretentious because they don't need to be. It's an old school, delicious culinary experience in an intimate setting. Come hungry! The welcoming bruschetta and various other treats arrive on your table before you even get your menu.
Impeccable service! Nice ambiance. Overall, food was terrific, as always. Lentil soup was very salty, though (first time having this, so not sure if this was a one off, or if it is always this salty).
Classic Italian food and more, superbly executed with consistency.
Business, it was great
