J. Gilbert’s – Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood - McLean
Georges Bank Scallops
with Burgers' Bacon
Lamb was pricey but amazing!
J Gilberts is one of our favorite dining places. We missed being able to go during the early stages of the pandemic. They are cleary aware of the proper behavior. All servers wore maske and gloves, and the service, as always, was promptand friendly. The food, also, was well prepared and delicious. Also, we used the J Gilbert app for touchless payment which was an efficient way to handle the transaction, pandemic or not.
As always, excellent meal with exceptional service. Well done for the way social distancing has been set up.
This was my first visit and I found the food excellent. The blue cheese dressing was the best I’ve ever had, my fillet was cooked perfectly and everything was delicious.
Staff is being extremely thorough with COVID sanitization, using hand sanitizer after visiting each table. The light scent of wood fire as soon as you walked in the door added a nice ambiance.
We had been to J. Gilbert's numerous times before COVID-19 and the new restrictions on indoor dining. We were not disappointed. The food is just as good, if not better than before. Our waiter, Deone was awesome and couldn't have been more attentive without being overbearing. J Gilbert's employees were very attentive to the overall cleanliness of the restaurant - not that they weren't before.
We'll gladly go back for the food and wine.
The food was excellent and the service was exceptional.
Very pleasant evening, great food too!
It was so nice to eat inside one of our favorite restaurants. Plenty of room for social distancing and all personal were masked and gloved. However, the friendly staff was just the same and the food was great.
Just after reopening for indoor dining. Followed all the sanitation rules.
Crab cakes were a bit bland.
The Wood grilled ribs were tough and without the usual flavor. The Kansas City Strip was up to the usual good flavor and cooked just right. We always enjoy the creme brulet.
I am very loyal to J Gilberts, it’s always my first choice for an evening out. Wednesday night was my first time dining there since covid. Although the food was excellent, minus the fact that scallops were missing from the Mixed Grill that I ordered, our meals were good and consistent. I didn’t even mention the missing scallops to the waiter.
The problem I had was with the hostess. She was inpatient, overwhelmed and quite frankly rude. We were a party of 6 and upon entering the restaurant she was on the phone with a customer. She kept glancing at me without acknowledging me, making eye contact with me several times. When she finally got off the phone I was able to check in. She did not ask us to step outside or tell us how long it would take for a table to be ready. We just stood there by the hostess stand while other customers came in to check in for their reservations or pick up there to go meals, the entire area was crowded and disorganized. We stood there for a good 5 to 7 minutes before she asked someone to seat us in the private dining room that seemed to be ready the entire tine. I’m not sure if she was having a bad night but it didn’t make for a great first impression to the new guests that I brought with me.
It was a wonderful evening out to dinner with a friend.
Steak was cooked to perfection, crabcakes were the best as always. Remoulade and steak sauce was really out of this world and just brought the whole meal together. Service was absolutely five star, they're our favorite!
So glad they are open again for in person dining. Food is always good and the Power Lunch is a great deal.
JGilberts never disappoints. They have staying power for a reason.
They did a great job with all the changes required by Covid and I felt safe dining inside the restaurant. Our waiter, Evan, went out of his way to be sure we had everything we needed despite the constraints - even a candle in the cake for our birthdays we were celebrating.
Consistently consistent- always know what we’re getting and always good. Simply prepared great quality “Home cooked” meals. Good bread too!
Skip their desserts.
We went for Father's Day so things had just opened up again. They were getting into the flow service-wise with all the social distancing. But everyone was great and the food was OUTSTANDING! I don't know why, but it tasted even better than I had remembered! We had leftovers and they tasted just as delicious the next day. I can't recommend them enough. Go and enjoy yourself!
We are regular customers. This time, it was not up to their usual standard. The Martini was weak. The portions were skimpy. 3 asparagus, really? The desserts were disappointing. The cinnamon ice cream did not taste like cinnamon, but vanilla. The carrot cake was so hard it was almost un-edible, and had little icing. Maybe it was because of Father's Day. And their vegetable plate was no longer on the menu. We will try again in the future.
The hosts were not too friendly. However, my server made up for it... She was excellent. The food was good. I ordered the rib-eye and it was cooked perfectly.
Deion did a great job serving our delicious meal and he brought a wonderful slice of birthday cake for my husband’s birthday! We plan to return soon!
Father’s Day/sons birthday
We cannot say enough how much we love this restaurant, it's staff, food, wine etc. The steak is absolutely amazing each and every time! Our server, Chiara, is the best and we are fortunate to have her as our server most times we are there. The appetizers and desert are great! We truly feel special each time we visit!
Every visit is always a treat, my favorite a la carte item... truffled mushrooms! The wine was delicious, the service was great (Egor was our waiter)... he was attentive.
Good to get out and have a meal
This was the first time dining since Covid and it was a pleasant experience. My husband and daughter loved their dinner. I was slightly disappointed in the baked potato. It’s not as good as before. However, the steak, lobster, scallops, shrimp, and green beans were all just as good as I remembered.
Food and service were excellent. Our server, Rico was very attentive and was entertaining as well as efficient.
Amazing service. Fabulous food and menu selection. Our favorite special occasion dinner restaurant.
Services was excellent. This is the first time in 4 months that we dined at a restaurant. The waiter was very attentive, wore gloves, and mask and made our first outing stress free. I ordered the fish tacos which were delicious and reminded me of the great value and atmosphere of this neighborhood establishment.
Always an excellent choice. Food is delicious and service is amazing. Would highly recommend.
We’ve dined at other J Gilbert’s and always loved the food so we’re happy to hear of this one close by to DC and that they reopened! Overall, the experience was good. We did have to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time to be seated which was not impressive, the front of house was mostly left unattended and seemed chaotic when it was attended. There was no “thank you for waiting” or anything like that- the hostess made it seem like it was to be expected. The restaurant is also in desperate need of a makeover. The food was fantastic as was the service provided by our waitress. We would go back to this one again, however the ambiance and front of house staff were subpar compared to other J Gilbert’s we have been to.
We had a great time. Our waitress Michelle was amazing. My only complaint was my salmon was over cooked but everything else was delicious
Our server was fantastic....fun and extremelt attentive. We were thrilled to be out again.
If you like your steak medium rare order rare... I found the filet very bland but the Kansas City strip/ribeye was very good. Great drinks and attentive staff.
Very pleasant evening. Restaurant is really set up for distance dining. Food was very good, steak a little overcooked but otherwise fine.
The service food and drinks were perfect! They are also doing a great job of cleaning and keeping customers apart.
1st indoor restaurant we’ve been too since the start of the Wuhan Red Death panic.
Always perfectly cooked. Great job opening up after Covid. Was impressed that the kitchen and staff were as prepared as they were.
Everything was wonderful. The restaurant had appropriate precautions for COVID 19.
