This is not the first time I visited J. Gilberts in McLean, VA but it will sure be my last time. Cocktails were great at the bar but after that it went downhill. I ate outside with a friend. I ordered a Cowboy Ribeye medium rare. It took a long time to get my order but when I got it the steak was well done. I asked the server if she remembered what I ordered and she said, "Yes a medium rare ribeye. She looked at the steak and said "Oh dear!" It was well done. The server agreed to replace the steak. It returned quickly. While the steak was medium rare but this time there was no flavor in this $53 dollar steak. My friend ordered a seafood dish with a baked potato and asparagus. He got a baked potato and au gratin potatoes. Huh? I had enough and left. Never to return. Just terrible!

Dining at J. Gilbert’s was as great as usual. They have taken all the appropriate Covid-19 precautions to keep their customers safe. Customers were seated farther apart so conversations were more private. Our waiter wore a mask and gloves throughout our lovely dining experience. The food was delicious as always. It was so pleasant to be there after such a long pandemic closure. I highly recommend going there, we all felt very safe and enjoyed our dinner.

Celebrated our anniversary with Aziz as our server. Everything was spot on, especially all precaution taken by our server. He wiped down our credit card and pen before handing back to us. Service was fantastic, checked in after a few bites of our meal, enjoyable conversations, and had let us know the bottle of wine we picked was a favorite.

Our experience wasn’t what it usually is at this restaurant. Understanding that these are very strange times, it seemed like the restaurant was very understaffed and not prepared. Our server wasn’t that attentive, and when she was, she wasn’t very friendly. My steak was very tough, frustrating especially since it was the $53 ribeye. We have eaten here on numerous occasions with very few issues. Very frustrating.

Food was excellent for the most part, some of our order did not make it out on time (was probably forgotten), server came up with a creative excuse. Service was attentive and mostly good, although we did have to wait about 10 minutes to be greeted initially after we were seated. I was very disappointed in the wine selection and the Caymus Cab we ordered was very young, meek and just not worth the bottle price. The whisky list was also a little thin, but I guess I understand that in Virginia, given that it is an ABC state and decent bottles of Bourbon these days are tough to come by. There were some nice Scotch available (Macallan 18 for instance). We would come back to J Gilbert's for sure, the tasted and quantity of food made it worth it....

Really good food and price. server was standing right at end of table instead of respecting 6ft, and while she was nice to chat with, she didn’t get the hints that we were ready to go and kept talking to us. Fans in bar area were a little tacky but understandable.

J Gilbert’s is always a great choice but I was particularly impressed with their social distancing for COVID. My grandparents were insisting on a nice dinner so I commented in my reservation I had 4 seniors with the reservation and they sat us in a nice side room by ourselves. Great for social distancing and noise. However by far I want to compliment our waiter, Dion. He was patient with the spastic ordering and questions and took our order from memory, getting everything correct. My grands were very happy with their steak and seafood and my uncle ate ounce of his pork chop (which NeVER happens!) well done! Impressive as always!

J Gilberts is one of our favorite dining places. We missed being able to go during the early stages of the pandemic. They are cleary aware of the proper behavior. All servers wore maske and gloves, and the service, as always, was promptand friendly. The food, also, was well prepared and delicious. Also, we used the J Gilbert app for touchless payment which was an efficient way to handle the transaction, pandemic or not.

Staff is being extremely thorough with COVID sanitization, using hand sanitizer after visiting each table. The light scent of wood fire as soon as you walked in the door added a nice ambiance.

We had been to J. Gilbert's numerous times before COVID-19 and the new restrictions on indoor dining. We were not disappointed. The food is just as good, if not better than before. Our waiter, Deone was awesome and couldn't have been more attentive without being overbearing. J Gilbert's employees were very attentive to the overall cleanliness of the restaurant - not that they weren't before.

We'll gladly go back for the food and wine.

I love going to J. Gilbert’s and always enjoy my visit. This time my dining experience was less than satisfying. I am not certain if Covid-19 has made it tougher in the kitchen , but my meal really suffered. I ordered the rack of lamb medium rare. Unfortunately the chops were well done and really had more fat than usual which made them tough. I also ordered a Caesar salad which lacked dressing which gives it its flavor.

And not the restaurants fault, just not much fun dining in an almost empty restaurant. I remain optimistic and know that JGilberts will return to be a place I enjoy taking my family and friends to.

It was so nice to eat inside one of our favorite restaurants. Plenty of room for social distancing and all personal were masked and gloved. However, the friendly staff was just the same and the food was great.

The Wood grilled ribs were tough and without the usual flavor. The Kansas City Strip was up to the usual good flavor and cooked just right. We always enjoy the creme brulet.

I am very loyal to J Gilberts, it’s always my first choice for an evening out. Wednesday night was my first time dining there since covid. Although the food was excellent, minus the fact that scallops were missing from the Mixed Grill that I ordered, our meals were good and consistent. I didn’t even mention the missing scallops to the waiter.

The problem I had was with the hostess. She was inpatient, overwhelmed and quite frankly rude. We were a party of 6 and upon entering the restaurant she was on the phone with a customer. She kept glancing at me without acknowledging me, making eye contact with me several times. When she finally got off the phone I was able to check in. She did not ask us to step outside or tell us how long it would take for a table to be ready. We just stood there by the hostess stand while other customers came in to check in for their reservations or pick up there to go meals, the entire area was crowded and disorganized. We stood there for a good 7 -10 minutes before she asked someone to seat us in the private dining room that seemed to be ready the entire tine. I’m not sure if she was having a bad night but it didn’t make for a great first impression to the new guests that I brought with me.
