Our waiter was amazing!!!
A bit too much noise from the bar area. And service was a bit inattentive. Food was superb. So overall, 4/5.
I usually love this restaurant. Was disappointed they were out of my two selections at 6 PM. The lobster Cobb salad, and unsweetened ice tea? They only had sweetened tea. Seemed very unusual fir a restaurant.
A local joint with decent food. The service was terrific.
I always enjoy J. Gilbert's, even though it is a bit pricey.
Perfect quantity of food ie options available for each person so we didn’t feel over full. Cajun was subtle. Seasoning on filet and ribeye was good. Mixed truffle mushrooms dish was excellent. It was dark inside with booths (typical steakhouse feel). Great wine selection.
During the 7 years that we have lived in the vicinity of McLean, my family and I have dined at J. Gilbert's very frequently, both on business and personal occasions. It had become our "go to" restaurant for all types of dining events.
Lately, we have become disenchanted with the J. Gilbert's experience. What used to be a comfortable and "cozy" atmosphere has morphed into a loud, cacaphonous environment that is unsuited for either enjoyable dining and/or meaningful individual or group conversations.
Our experience yesterday, to mark the 53rd anniversary of my wife's and my marriage, was anything but a positive experience. It will be a long time, if ever again, that we dine at J. Gilbert's.
Enjoyed Sunday dinner. ordered the Mixed Seafood grill for the first time. The crab cake was disappointingly smallish, but it and everything else tasted delicious. Sour dough bread served with dinner meals is excellent. Chester provided excellent service and assistance.
I had a Landry gift certificate and they would not honor it. The manager did offer a discount because of the mixup. The Landry website lists J. Gilbert as one of their restaurants.
Lovely steak house with good food.
Food was good but not great this trip. Service was great…thank you Hugo for your efforts! Felt bad that we got the add-on king crab leg at MP. Did not ask the price, which turned out to be $68 when we got the bill (for half of one crab leg). Other than that disappointment, it was a decent dinner. Will try dining there again based on the excellent service.
Always superb food served in a timely manner. The selections at lunch are great, especially the fish tacos!
The meal was very good. Service was generally excellent -- our waiter was very responsive. Not all dishes arrived at the correct time and in the correct order, but everything was manageable.
First time back in a year and a half and we weren't disappointed!! The food and service were excellent as always. One of out fave places to eat!
Always a great meal in a comfortable atmosphere. Salmon, Filet and Ribs are favorite as well as Mushroom Risotto.
We were in a back room with a very large table with lots of kids. Noise level was very high, but it was probably just bc of the sectioned off area we were in. Half price wine bottles is a great deal on Monday, but they didn’t have 4 of the bottles as selected. Sad. Also, it was super slow. But the food was good and I’m sure we’ll be back.
I eat frequently at J.Gilbert's and always enjoy it, but last night was exceptionally good. I had a smoked salmon rillette starter, which was superb, and the rack of Australian lamb, which was perfectly cooked and delicious! Our waitress was outstanding!
Scallops were terrific as were the three salads our group had.
Dined bar area. Apparently no communication between staff and those in the kitchen. I had to ask what happened to my order. The simple entrée took 45 minutes to arrive. The reason cited: other customers ordered food at same time ?!
Bar dining area was uncomfortably warm. A/C not working properly. There were houseflies flying nearby circling food that had to be waved off.
Staff and servers appeared stressed. Chronically understaffed.
Drink order was delivered incorrect (on the rocks vs up), but everything was moving so slow it seemed safer not to send it back.
Perhaps my worst experience at JG. Is there a new owner?
I came to J Gilbert’s for my Birthday as I have done in the past. And I’ve brought many clients for lunch outside under the tent during the pandemic. And I travel from the District!!Having grown up in a restaurant and having been a consistent customer for many years, I was very surprised that It was not acknowledged at all. I was so very disappointed. Not sure I want to come back.
As always, great food, great service.
Totally wonderful. I've been wanting a reason to come back to this place and this was the perfect time to do it. Everything was wonderful and the food drinks were amazing. I must say those carrot cake waffles better be a mainstay if they weren't already
Our waiter Ryan was very personable and knowledgeable about menu. He explained the highlights nicely. We started out with drinks and app. All the cocktails were good; blackberry martini (very sweet as expected), Moscow mule, and bourbon basil smash (we r used to whiskey smash and definitely prefer mint to basil after this). The calamari was very chewy, almost not able to eat at all; dipping sauces were very tasty. The Caesar salad was good.
Main entrees were served as expected. The filet with a side of shrimp (only3) had good char and taste but pricey for amount of food. The 12 oz Kansas City steak was cooked well but needed more salt and a little stingy on the asparagus(5). My lobster risotto with scallops were excellent and well proportioned.
The steak is not worth the money. My eight-year-old kid told me that. lol
Rico was awesome. Thanks Rico!! Sorry about the spilled wine!!
enjoyed a wagyu burger and JGilbert's variation on barrel aged Manhattan. Sat at the bar, the bar tender Lydia, provide excellent, friendly and quick service.
The server was great! Food was terrible ! Did not feel good at night. Aso, bathroom was smiling up and leaking! Very dangerous !
Great dining experience last night for our wedding anniversary dinner. Our server Habib was exceptionally attentive and the pace of food delivery was just right. Great food selections, although the absence of any entre salads was something of a surprise. The filets were prime beef and well prepared. The appetizers were enormous and easily divided, while the sides were generous portions with good presentation. We'll certainly be back! Here's a tip: Save room for dessert! The dessert offerings are enormous and well crafted!
The ambiance is always wonderful. The service was very good and our waiter explained everything that we asked about. The calamari was excellent, the dessert (chocolate) was also very good. The rock fish was very good but the lobster mac and cheese was not so hot: needed more cheese and the lobster was not fresh.
I have reviewed this restaurant several times and it's consistent. See my other reviews if you want more details.
Overall the food and experience were fairly "blah". Will not be returning.
The food was great. The service was wonderful. I took my husband to Ruth Chris for Father’s Day and had steak that was not very tender and terrible service. J Gilberts will be our number one steak restaurant.
J Gilbert's is our go to special occasion place. The atmosphere is on the romantic side. The food is DELICIOUS and the drinks are spectacular!
Steaks were very good. Some of the sides were cold and not very good. Waitress missed one of the sides ordered and delivered it late. Very inconsistent.
Allie was an amazing server and very attentive! The food was delicious as always.
The area we were sitting however (small booth towards the front) had a very large draft from the AC which made us cold the entire time. My husband and I took turns switching sides because we were both cold. Really disturbed our dining experience.
Service with a smile
Nice lunch with friends. The food was fine and the ambiance good.
The southern style fried chicken brunch dish was huge! Think twice unless you are really hungry. Everything was great.
We went for brunch on Sunday. Food was great! Not much selection, but everything tastes super good.
Cajun steak was delicious but didn’t taste like Cajun at all!
Server didn’t ask what size wine I wanted and assumed the larger 9 oz vs 6 oz glass. He didn’t try to correct it.
