A friend of mine told me about this place. It was by BF birthday and we wanted to try something new. When i tell you EVERYTHING was great, even that is an understatement. Food was amazing, service was even better. We will be returning and spreading the word!
We had a lovely meal. We particularly appreciated our server carefully reviewing our special dietary requests from our reservation, consulting with the chef prior to guiding us around the menu, and then working with all the kitchen staff and chef to make sure the meal was prepared are requested. This allowed us to enjoy my husband’s birthday dinner while adhering to the requirements of our rather strict diet! Will definitely visit again soon based on this experience!
Why is this reservation not eligible for points?
I was disappointed with my lobster Cobb salad yesterday evening. It had very little lobster in it—only a few small pieces. Otherwise it was fine.
my first time at the J Glibert's and it was outstanding. I had a reservation and hence was seated immediately.
The bar was pretty full at that time. The Cocktails i had Manhattan was outstanding. the server was very attentive and the service was a well-oiled machine.
The cowboy steak I had was good but not outstanding.
The desserts, berries and cream, i could nitpick and say that anglaise sauce was lacking but i blame it on my sweet tooth.
overall a pretty good value for money.
Great place for a family birthday celebration! Food was great and the menu had choices to please everyone.
3rd. time in 6wks. that the "blackened Sordfish was not available !
I will be back next sat. 9/25 Save one for me !
Great experience. We were dining with our family including grandchildren and it was a great time. Our waiter was was wonderful and very understanding of the young children. We will definitely come back again.
Truly great dining experience...service was impeccable and the steaks were cooked to perfection. I bit disappointed that the porterhouse wasn't available last night but the Kansas City Strip was incredible and each of the dinner guests were raving over the filets. Service (Aziz) was impeccable.
Excellent service and excellent food - thanks!!
Great food and excellent drinks
Great food, drink, and excellent service. Thank you for the Birthday Email discount
Shrimp should never be over cooked at a place Ike this. Quality isn’t what it use to be 🤦🏾♂️💯
It was our first time dining at this restaurant. We figured since we were celebrating a birthday why not try that spot. The experience was nothing expected. For starters our server spilled water on the table as were being seated. We were near the end of the meal before we had to request for it to be wiped. Our main entrees were good. For our appetizer, assuming he was the manager brought it out but took it to the wrong table. When he came out the kitchen, his hair was not pulled back enough and it was hanging near our order. That’s unsanitary. Our server had to get our order and bring to us. We were famished so we still ate it. But once it was given to another table, that order should have remained there and we get a new order to be brought to our table. Besides the hostesses welcoming, that’s not enough to return there.
The food and customer service was outstanding. I will definitely be coming, and i am bringing my friends.
Service very good ! Food was outstanding !! Time from "order "to "serve" very quick !
They did not acknowledge our birthday celebration.
My friend and I had a lunch reservation. We arrived on time and were immediately seated. The atmosphere suggested refined excellence and the service and food and drink accepted that challenge and surpassed all expectations. We spent a very pleasant and delicious two hours and were in no hurry to leave. If seafood or steak is one of your food preferences, this is the place to come. The side dishes were perfect compliments to the steak or seafood and the drinks were perfectly blended. The wine list featured a wide variety of superb wines at reasonable prices. It was one of the finest dining experiences I have found in the DC area. I do suggest prior reservations. To help you evaluate my review, I would add that my son was chef-owner of a restaurant in Alexandria for many years and his restaurant appeared in the American Chefs Association's first book naming the 100 best chefs in America. My son would love this restaurant! I plan to take him soon.
First time for us but not for our guests. Celebrating a birthday. Absolutely delicious! Will be back.
We have made J. Gilbert's one of our special occasion restaurants.simply because we always have a good meal, with friendly service..in a comfortable and classy atmosphere.
I've always had an excellent experience at J. Gilbert's, but last night seemed very rushed. They were fairly crowded for a Tuesday night and the service did not seem up to the normal standard. We will be back. I'll just assume this was a one-off event.
Mostly steaks on menu but my seared scallops were well prepared. Very good service.
After dining in two other locations recently, I can say this location in Virginia is a disappointing and costly experience.
Our server had an affable personality and tried, but the food arrived cool . There were long lapses between courses ;dirty plates uncleared even at and still there stacked up during dessert (!) ; and only one water glass was refilled and that was after dessert and only after several requests.
Although rapidly rising prices on beef and seafood have put surcharges on these items at several high end restaurants, I was pleasantly surprised not to see them here. However in some cases the size of the items have shrunk. I would , personally, would rather pay the surcharge. Comparing photos of the same orders here and at two different mid west locations shows quite a contrast.
There is a lot of similar restaurants in the WashingtonDC area and I think in the future I will opt for one of them.
J. Gilberts is a consistently reliable option, where the ambience, food and service are always solid. It is a great venue for business lunches, family gatherings and so forth.
It was my first time to J.Gilbert's. They have a very old-school, traditional vibe inside (think outdated seating, dimmed lighting, feels a little stuffy inside). I could totally imagine old white men having business meetings here over some scotch. The food was good; steaks were perfectly cooked. I wish they had more variety of sides - most of them are potato based. Drinks were good; the spiked punch was delicious. The coconut cake is TO DIE FOR. Service was outstanding.
Always enjoy the food here
We have been going to J. Gilbert’s for as long as it’s been there. It has been a family favorite forever. Last night was a little disappointing though. Our server was very nice but not as attentive as I normally expect from this establishment. Bread was very slow to come out…we had to ask for it even. Our wine was a bit slow to come and be poured and my potato was missing from the dinner order. I know they were busy but I have been here many times and it operated like a well oiled machine. Tonight, it was off. Food was good as always though. Will this experience deter us from returning… absolutely not. Like I said, it’s been a family favorite since it opened.
Seafood selections were excellently prepared. Salmon and the mixed seafood entree were both delicious.
Food quality was off the chain right down to the sides. Everything was perfect. Getting the check was a little slow, but, if we weren’t going someplace directly afterwards, it wouldn’t have been a problem.
Birthday. Great lamb chops and scallops!
Food was spot on like always! Great service, great atmosphere!
Great ambiance and the food was spectacular. Front reception was outstanding. Table service was meh!
Would be making reservations again through Open Table
$81 for one tepid crab leg and three shrimp was too much. The Steak and scallops were terrific! ambiance a bit tired. Overall experience was ok but not awesome.
It took a while to get out food and our server was just ok. The food is always good.
We haven't eaten inside since a year ago. We had reservations for 6:00pm on a Thu. We arrived 15 minutes early and was seated within 5 minutes. We had the first booth near the lobby which was comfortable and quiet. Our server, Evan was very good. He was attentive, informative and efficient. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and received a complimentary dessert. The drink order came out quickly as the appetizer. The crab bisque was excellent. The 6 oz. filet with scallops was cooked medium rare and scallops were great. Very tasty. The twin Canadian Lobster Tails were cooked just right, tender and tasty. The large fried potatoes and mashed potatoes were very good. The cream of corn with bacon was interesting and very filling. The coconut cake with pineapple, mango & macadamian nuts was excellent.
We had a great meal while celebrating a birthday. The food was extremely good.
2nd visit in three weeks & again they were out of Swordfish ? Same excuse, "we just sold the last one".
I always have a good time when I get to dine with my family. Last night was especially fun as the atmosphere was grand and the food was great.
Loved the seafood mixed grill after discovering that they don’t offer crab cakes in their regular menu anymore.the sourdough bread is amazing. I also loved my pineapple martini. Our server was also very good. We always enjoy this restaurant, although some visits are better than others!
