Amazing food and staff! Definitely a gem in the heart of the capital of the green mountain state. I have had business dinners and personal dinners at this location many times and have never been disappointed, A culinary experience not to be missed if you find yourself in the beautiful city of Montpelier.
Food was deliciously prepared, service was attentive. The restaurant was not very busy and there were open tables but we were sat squished too closely between two other tables.
Kayla, our server, was terrific.
Friendly, efficient & professional. She was comfortably attentive.
Crispy duck not crispy, however taste great
Amazing ambiance, servers and food. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Salad was actually the starter salad but was enough for a meal. Paired that with draft Stella Artois and the strawberry cake, I was in heaven.
Our waitress was one of the best servers we've ever had, anywhere. She was very competent in dealing with allergies and preferences.
My husband and I were in Vermont to bring our daughter to visit a friend. We were looking for a nice restaurant for the 2 of us while she was with her friend. J Morgan's was recommended to us so we went here not knowing anything about the restaurant or area. We could not have been any happier with the selection. I had the rib eye steak and it was amazing. My husband had the rack of lamb. He enjoyed it but after tasting my steak he wished he got a steak. Our overall experience was very good. We would highly recommend this restaurant.
Over priced cold food took an hour to get it. Token little gross crouton to munch on for 5 people.
The food is so good here. Anytime we are with our son, who is at Norwich University as a cadet, we bring him here for an amazing dinner before he needs to return to campus. We all love it. The food is a tad pricy but it’s a treat and it’s outstanding!
Every entree is a winner. I recommend the medium prime rib.
Been my favorite restaurant in Montpelier since I started traveling here for work. Was a bit dissapointed that the chicken parm no longer came with salad and garlic bread.
Great food at a location that's easily accessible, with easy parking and movie theater right across the street.
Awesome breakfast buffet experience ever , great food, great service , great atmosphere; has to be best breakfast brunch in Vermont.
Poor management of reservation time. Waited 40 minutes past reservations along with many other customers. Staff was very nice just had difficulty managing time. Food was good and our waitress very sweet. Ambiance needed a reboot
Great food! Had the halibut special and my husband had the salmon. Was spectacular
Outstanding service. Great waiter who was very attentive. The food was outstanding as expected. J Morgan’s is always one of our favorite places to dine for our anniversary and they did not disappoint.
We had a reservation at 7 p.m., busy time but very quick to be seated. Our waiter Dan was the best!. Friendly and accommodating.
This is my "go-to" restaurant when I have out-of-state friends visiting and I want to be sure to have a good dining experience. Excellent service and food.
Complimentary bread is now on the menu, no more side salads with an entree and keeping the filet mignon the same price but for less oz. So disappointed in these changes. I'll rethink spending a special moment here.
It was very good for why we spend and they also treated us to anniversary dessert
Friendly staff, lots of seating options, one meal in a booth, our next at the bar. Good wine & beer list, creative menu with lots of variety. Generous portions, very popular restaurant, always crowded in the 3 days we were in Montpelier (stayed in the attached Capitol Plaza Hotel ). I had the Vermont Maple Glazed Salmon twice with different sides, my husband had the daily special Tender Filet Tips with peppers one evening and the Billionaire's Cake (Lobster Cake topped w/more lobster, shrimp & crab meat) with Lyonnaise Potatoes the next. He preferred the Filet Tips, the Lyonnaise potatoes are not the traditional presentation, but were worth every calorie. If you find yourself in Montpelier, give J. Morgan's a try.
This is a very warm and inviting venue with friendly staff and delicious food. The only problem we experienced was the amount of time it took to receive our orders....both at dinner and breakfast.
They staff were very accommodating, however, in kindly providing me with take out items for my spouse who was ill in our room.
I love this place! Such a nice meal. Sadly bread is no longer included at dinner and you have to pay extra for a side salad with entrees. Still a fantastic meal and wine!
We are from the west coast, California. Enjoyed our visit to Vermont and dinner at your restaurant was delicious.
The steak was amazing. We both ordered the bone-in porterhouse, and it was delicious. Highly recommend this cut, also the sweet & spicy chicken appetizer was yummy!
I tried the house aged ribeye again and while the steak had very good flavor the dinner only came with choice of potato/starch (which came out lukewarm). Salad or garlic bread was an extra charge. Given the price, I will not get this particular cut again.
Also, my wife ordered an Octoberfest but was given an IPA. She brought this to the server's attention and who agreed it was the wrong type. (We suspect the wrong keg was tapped.) The bartender disagreed with our server and reportedly claimed the beer was what my wife had been ordered. However, our server offered a different beer since she knew it was not the correct one.
Overall, this restaurant is one of the best around. Service is usually very good. On this visit our dinners were slow in coming out and it was obvious some portions of it had been sitting for a little bit.
We were disappointed this time as we travel an hour and have been coming here for years for the great food and garlic bread. We noticed the prices had gone up and no longer serve complimentary garlic bread and a salad with your meal. So you only get your main meal which i don’t get why you stopped serving the other stuff with it. Please go back to serving the garlic bread and salad ! This place is pricy but we have always still came because of the good food !
Great service and food as always. Came up with my own fabulous dish! Billionaires Pasta. Their delicious Shrimp Scampi adding a side of butter poached lobster meat. Off the charts!
Our first visit to J.Morgan's with friends from the area. It was a wonderful dining experience - the food was awesome. Will return again soon.
This is a relatively classy restaurant which serves very good food with competent servers.we had delicious Caesar Salads followed.bu a Lobster Roll and the Maple Salmon expertly served by Cheyenne. This is a great venue when you want a step up from the fine local eateries.
The food was excellent. We couldn't have asked for a nicer waitress. She made us feel welcome and at ease. She recommended some side dishes that we didn't know about and they were delicious. We were celebrating our son's birthday and after we were done eating, she brought out this dish of cream and fruit that was amazing and it was on a dish that said Happy Birthday in chocolate. He is forty years old now and the look on his face when she brought it out made him look like he was five years old again. Thank you for a wonderful night out.
While in Montpelier my wife and I dined at J Morgan's and were seated very promptly after arriving. After having been given the menus by our server my wife decided to have the rack of lamb which was very good. I started with a dinner salad which was crisp and good. When our server delivered the salad to the table he also brought a small loaf bread for us to enjoy. The odd thing about the bread was it was drenched in what I assume was olive oil as our server didn't tell us what the oil was and they had dumped a tremendous amount of what I think was parmesan cheese on top of the bread. We've traveled throughout the country and internationally and we've never experienced bread prepared like this was and to be honest I wasn't a fan. For my entrée I chose the half duck which was a little overdone but never the less was good. We decided to order a Pinot Noir to compliment our meals and it did nicely. Our server provided adequate service throughout the meal and we never felt like we were rushed.
The food was delicious and priced well, but the omelets were a bit bland. Our server was very kind and attentive.
Outstanding service and fantastic food. They even brought us a beautiful dessert for our anniversary.
A great spot... we live in town and have eaten here for both breakfast, brunch and dinner. Best spot in town and Central Vermont
My husband and I had a wonderful meal with refreshing drinks. Atmosphere was great and service was fantastic! It is one of our favorite places to go.
Excellent food, well made drinks, excellent service at a relaxed pace.
As a frequent patron, I was absolutely amazed that these were the BEST meals we've ever had there! Service was excellent(thank you Dan!) and atmosphere was so comfortable. Never disappoints!
Food is not up to par for the prices. Half empty dining room still bread came out cold and food took for ever. Not bad place if they lowered prices to reflect quality.
Whilst the food is good at this restaurant and the wait staff is good, the front hostesses were poorly trained and incapable of understanding seating etiquette. The first table they place us (2) at was near a large family group with small children. We were celebrating an anniversary which they knew about so this was not where we wanted to be. We moved to a second table which was nestled in a small room of one other two top and a four top. Two groups were seated at the four top and both groups asked to be moved as it was a tight space for them and way too close to us!!
Staff needs to be trained to understand the clients' wants and needs ~ this restaurant needs to work on that philosophy!!
