J Sheekey - The Restaurant
Saturday: 12 noon-3pm, 5.15pm-12 midnight
Sunday: 12 noon-3.30pm, 5.30pm-10.30pm
Very famous and understandably so.
I came for lunch with my daughter. A special day as she is almost due my first grandchild. Good service. Very busy and wonderful food. My one gripe is as she was due a week away, so, I rang up to ask for a table two days before to request comfortable seating . I was told that this would noted against our reservation. We were shown the worst seating; in the corner against the wall. Obviously this phone call had not been noted. On request we were moved.
Apart from that fabulous.
Fantastic as always, never a dull moment at J.Sheekeys
Service was extremely slow. We were a party of 3 in a room with two larger groups and felt “invisible”. At this price point, the service should have. Even a “10”
Awesome place, seafood was amazing and perfect location before heading to the theatre. Bar seating recommended. Service prompt and courteous.
Second time we have been to this lovely restaurant,it is classy and cosy with excellent seafood and service.
Excellent, sublime - still the BEST fish restaurant in London by a long way....
As ever a very high quality experience at J Sheekey. Great welcome - lovely banquette table for me and my daughter and great fresh fish. The prawn and soft shell crab burger is lovely and the haddock lovely and pearly fresh. Excellent service. Not cheap but worth it.
Class! Excellent food matched with excellent service
We all loved it. And enjoyed the meal. The service was quite nice, polite and courteous.
First visit, lovely evening meal in this busy city centre specialist fish restaurant. The service was of a very high quality and the food was excellent. We will definitely return again in the future.
Food was great as always ... service was impeccable.
Pleasant meal in happy ambience. A treat in the middle of a busy day
Disappointing on the very level. No sense of timing. Wrong food delivered. Had to keep asking for drinks to be topped up.
We arrived spot on time and we were kept waiting for 15 minutes for the table. Herded into the small bar area. Not a good start. The food was fantastic. But the service unfortunately very slow. The ambience is completely wrong. Too many tables crushed into a tiny space and extremely loud (to the point of shouting at the top of their voices) and drunk diners went completely unchallenged by the staff. We will not return.
Great food and service, as usual. A must any time we are in London.
Fabulous meal for my wife and I on her birthday, thank you for making it so special
Excellent menu and as always great fish - double cooked haddock souflee was not very hot but the rest was very good. Bit of a cheek that the bread is charged for regardless - in this day and age it seems unreasonable to charge when the place is not the cheapest. Regardless of this points we will come back and recommend - but they need to be aware of the competition and what they are offering!
We dine here on a regular basis, my Wife's Parents bright her here a a child back on the 1960's and we have dined here ever since. It is consistent, a god atmosphere and staff are very good. The experience is very good and the food is faultless. Try it I guarantee you so t be dissapoited.
It was our youngest 21st birthday meal. Everybody was very attentive and a birthday plate was made up with her dessert. She had a lovely meal, and the whole occasion was memorable. We have been many times and it never fails to disappoint.
As always from this restaurant everything was of a very high standard. We are very fond of good fish and this restaurant knows how to serve it to perfection.
Very good booking and confirmation service . Knew closing time of nearby show ‘moderate soprano’ (dreadful play don’t bother with it !) and recommended post theatre time to suit ,
Food service great , excellent quality . Nice post theatre lively ambiance .
Delicious fried sea bass preceded by burrata and tomato. Excellent and good natured waiter named Alex. Though staff work very much as team. Expensive but high quality food and experience.
An excellent Birthday wxperience
Excellent food, very convenient for theatre and efficient service but it’s pricey.
OK we had Dover sole, oysters and wine but bill was over £100 per head
When I first visited J Sheekey in the early 80s, it was far more faded glory than trendy. It had been part of pre and post theatre tradition and a well established West End dining spot. The place is very much the same as it was some 30+ years ago - a spruced up version of its former self - and the menu isn't very different. It is far more fashionable in its current incarnation and the food - largely fish and shellfish - remains straightforward, uncomplicated and very good. It remains a perfect pre or post theatre dining spot.
Hi he evening was only marred by 2 loud and very drunk ladies at the next table who were with 2 guys they obviously they had only just met
Just the best mainly fish restaurant from all aspects. Superb.
Sheekey remains a favourite restaurant when we meet for one of our periodic “catch-up” lunches - Perfect mix of good food, service, and atmosphere ....
Second visit, standards are still high here. Service is good, fish selection awesome. We had the seafood platter as a starter (split one between 2 people as it’s huge) which was a great selection of crab, 3 sorts of oysters, prawns, crayfish, cockles, whelks, etc all beautifully served on crushed ice with about 4 different sauces and dips, very fresh excellent quality. Halibut for main course as no-one does halibut like J Sheekey, big fish steaks perfectly cooked, juicy, tasty.
Ambiance is great, feels busy and buzzy but not overcrowded or noisy. One of my favourite restaurants anywhere in the world.
Nice food in a lovely ambience attentive service and fair value.
Always a delight! I visit for at least one lunch every time I'm in London and always look forward to it. Extraordinarily civilized and understated ambience, welcoming and efficient service, and the freshest, tastiest seafood prepared with care. The Dover sole meuniere is not to be missed. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the world, without equal in my Manhattan home city.
As usual our meal was superb. I had the whole Cornish crab, possibly the biggest and best I have ever had. Great oysters and lobster too according to my fellow diners. One of the best seafood restaurants in London.
Excellent birthday treat. Sheekeys is a favourite Restaurant especially if you enjoy fish. My birthday guest was made to feel special with a chocolate plate as a treat. Potted shrimp, lobster bisque, sea trout, whole crab and a trio of deserts. All delightful accompanied by a bottle of Sancerre and some fizz. We did have our coffee outside on the Terrace as time allocated for the table beat us, fortunately the sun was shining so it did not matter. We also met Coco the dog, nice that the Terrace is dog friendly.
This is a traditional, high quality restaurant with a good menu, is very comfortable and good if you want to chat and relax. The food quality is very good and the only major reservation I have is it is somewhat over-priced-not so much for the basic meal but for add-ons and service costs. Overall, though, a good experience.
J Sheekeys never fails to tick all the boxes of Excellent British fish cooking and a great atmosphere. The staff are always charming and welcoming. It is a joy pre or post theatre.
Great food, lovely ambience. Just a shame about the service. We waited a good twenty minutes for our first drinks. Which I am prepared to forgive if the restaurant is busy but it was half empty. We then struggled to attract anyone’s attention when we wanted to reorder drinks and then again when we finally did we again had to wait too long to get them. Our food arrived without issue though.
Excellent quality fish and great ambience. Not cheap !
Got a cramped table by doorway. Not good. Wine list was not the best in terms of variety of mid level wines. Overall ‘just ok’
