As usual our meal was superb. I had the whole Cornish crab, possibly the biggest and best I have ever had. Great oysters and lobster too according to my fellow diners. One of the best seafood restaurants in London.
Excellent birthday treat. Sheekeys is a favourite Restaurant especially if you enjoy fish. My birthday guest was made to feel special with a chocolate plate as a treat. Potted shrimp, lobster bisque, sea trout, whole crab and a trio of deserts. All delightful accompanied by a bottle of Sancerre and some fizz. We did have our coffee outside on the Terrace as time allocated for the table beat us, fortunately the sun was shining so it did not matter. We also met Coco the dog, nice that the Terrace is dog friendly.
This is a traditional, high quality restaurant with a good menu, is very comfortable and good if you want to chat and relax. The food quality is very good and the only major reservation I have is it is somewhat over-priced-not so much for the basic meal but for add-ons and service costs. Overall, though, a good experience.
J Sheekeys never fails to tick all the boxes of Excellent British fish cooking and a great atmosphere. The staff are always charming and welcoming. It is a joy pre or post theatre.
Great food, lovely ambience. Just a shame about the service. We waited a good twenty minutes for our first drinks. Which I am prepared to forgive if the restaurant is busy but it was half empty. We then struggled to attract anyone’s attention when we wanted to reorder drinks and then again when we finally did we again had to wait too long to get them. Our food arrived without issue though.
Excellent quality fish and great ambience. Not cheap !
Got a cramped table by doorway. Not good. Wine list was not the best in terms of variety of mid level wines. Overall ‘just ok’
Another joyful visit to our favourite London restaurant. We had a drink in the Oyster Bar, which we recommend for less formal meals with children - also a fun and lively date space. We felt spoilt by great wines (we were ridiculously demanding and tried three), including Greek and Meursault, asparagus with truffles and that unmissable octopus dish... accompanied, as always, by outstanding service from Joel and the team. Glad to see the gluten-free bread choices are improving - could we have gluten-free mayo, now? We always feel uplifted by a visit to J Sheekey. And, like all his clientele, we miss John Andrews and wish him better. S & R x
A wonderful, bustling institution with excellent food, very good service, and an attitude of professionalism throughout. We enjoyed every aspect of our evening.
We came from New York to visit our grandson in school and took him here. I mentioned on our reservation that it was his birthday and they nicely served him a birthday desert. The food and service were excellent, the best we have had in London.
Slick friendly service and lovely food
Food was excellent.
Fish pie aa good as ever.
But (there’s always a ‘but’) I really think the time is right to take a look at how the dining areas are arranged and decorated with a view to improving the ambience.
Great service - had told them in advance it was a friend's birthday and all staff were aware and greeted her by name. Restaurant was buzzy, service attentive and friendly and food delicious!
Dated dining room and too busy. Good fish but overpriced. Our pudding was awful and sent back. Service was excellent
Awesome in every sense, food fab, cocktails sublime.., literally perfect
Not great. Too much mustard in the fish pie :((((((((
Food was excellent, the wine way over priced for very small portions. Our waitress was very attentive while the restaurant was not overly full, less effective as the restaurant filled up. For a restaurant of this standard, I would expect a little more, service was great for us. A couple near us tried to cancel their delayed meal, but were refused.
Pre-theatre meal for four of us. Attentive service, great food. Recommended.
The food was excellent, decent size portions, high quality and delicious. The waiters were very attentive and surprised us at the end with chops and anniversary greeting. Nice table with us both looking outwards.
Marvelous as always
As always the food was fabulous, but the service was only adequate. The front desk was unwelcoming and the table service was not up to the usual standard.
J Sheekey's is one of London's finest seafood restaurants. The fish and shellfish are alwys ver fresh. Our starters, Ceviche and smoked salmon were very fresh and delicious. The slip soles and the Dover Sole were perfectly prepared and flavored. 4 stars all around!!
An excellent meal.
Food was amazing, would highly recommend the tuna tartare and the lobster Thermidor, service was very very attentive, couldn’t do enough for you.
Great food with excellent service. Nothing else to say.
An exquisite dining experience in one of the most elegant of London restaurants. I love it here. The staff, ambiance and food are the best!
Went here for an early Mother’s Day lunch. We were in the part of the restaurant before the end which was a little lacking in atmosphere, that said the service was very attentive. The food was tasty although felt expensive for the overall experience. I’m glad I tried it but I wouldn’t rush back.
One of my favourite places, but the service can vary hugely, even within one meal as staff take over from one another, or fail to.
Consistently good: excellent service, food, atmosphere.
As always a fabulous dinner of excellent seafood and wine. The pre-theatre goers made the ambiance just that little bit more relaxing and enjoyable. Attentive service and knowledgeable waiters as always a very enjoyable experience.
Simply the best luxury (ie expensive) fish restaurant. My personal favourite for many years.
A reliable high quality sea food restaurant with excellent service.
Gracious, professional and personal service
Classic delicious impeccably fresh food
Not to be missed while visiting London
Excellent service and warm ambience. Delicious food.
As always, J Sheekey provided excellent food and the overall the service was good. Our pre-meal drinks were served at the bar by someone who knew what he was doing and immediately understood our requirements. The meal was exceptional and all my guests had something different from the menu. I had lobster thermidor, which is probably the best I've ever tasted. (And I've tasted quite a few over the years.) The wine list was better than I remember it and we enjoyed several bottles of a special Italian white. The only slight grumble I have is that we were put on a small table for two, this meant that there was little space for plates, dishes, glasses and the wine bottles. Four well built guys on a tiny square table; meanwhile of the three large round tables next to us, one was empty and the others had two women dining on cocktails. I was going to complain and ask to be moved to the spare large round table but my three friends assured me that this was diversity and sex equality in action. Get used to it.
Great food, excellent service
Traditional London ambience
The service was good and a nice atmosphere. However, the oysters were not fresh, a really bad quality of oysters!
The food was delicious, excellent fish pie. Service wasn't especially friendly, also had three mishaps in our section with dropped crockery/glasses. Restaurant is obviously popular, but because it was very busy, the noise level made conversation difficult. Was rather disappointed with ambiance and service.
I really like Sheekey's. The service is good but the food is better.
Not a cheap option but thats not the point.
Its fun to people watch too! I see quite a few celebs there in my time!
I look forward to my next visit
As always J Sheekey delivered on every level! The friendliest of service, great table and fabulous food. We were not rushed at all which was lovely... we sat ate chatted and enjoyed. Could not fault it!
