Josef Sheekey was a seafood stall holder who first opened an oyster bar on St Martin’s Court in 1896. The restaurant was restored to its former glory in 1998, its four inter-connecting rooms hung with original pictures of actors from throughout the 20th century that reflect its central position in the theatre world. Both casts and audiences flock here for immaculately sourced and perfectly prepared seafood.

Dining at Sheekeys is like being wrapped in your favourite blanket. The staff are unfailingly helpful, but not intrusive. I was there with a special friend and we were served discreetly, with excellent timing. Oh, and the food was as good as ever.

Variety of sea food, fish and broad selection of wines and peaceful atmosphere, must admit the whole experience will definitely make your taste buds happy, your partner happy and improve your wellbeing. This is absolutely the outstanding choice for me for pre-theatre dinners in the the area. The sea-food dishes are mouthwatering, service very well timed for the theatre and on the wine-list i found my absolute favourite among US Chardonnays. Regret that I went on to the theatre afterwards, which was a bit of an overly pretentious thing. But Cheekey made my day!!!

Simply 1st class, on all levels; food, service, ambience. My only improvement would be that the beer choice is somewhat limited. With the amount of craft beer, and local London craft beer now available, this could be enhanced easily.

Traveling to London with my husband we decided to go here specifically for the Dover sole after getting several recommendations. Loved all the dishes.. oysters, dressed crab, cheese and truffle soufflé amazing, Dover dole amazing and beautiful little gem salad. Shared the caviar tin of treats which was yummy. Food was great... service very spotty. Didn’t come around to check on you and didn’t fill water glasses as promptly as a restaurant of this caliber should. Would totally recommend. One of the best seafood spots in London. Located in convent garden

Food was amazing but it’s such a shame the service was so bad that we doubt we will be back. Not sure if they were short on staff or if that’s the way it is everyday.

As mentioned to the Maitre de', our banquette seat in the front dining room faced the computer screen next to the reception desk. This very bright and unsightly device unfortunately dominated the aspect and rather spoilt the atmosphere. I believe guests would benefit from placing it out of site.

Congratulations however on the sound level. If there was 'piped music' it was inaudible from our part of the room.

Have always liked Sheekeys for its ambiance and old fashioned posh fishy school dinner type cooking. Not adventurous in any way, but reliable. Good oysters. Lovely lighting, enough buzz without being too noisy for intimacy and chat. However, I haven't been here for ages and found three things: insane mark ups on wine. Really ridiculous. Fresh fish and shellfish, though no outstanding cooking of it, just good and comforting, but the vegetable dishes - always the same - were really mediocre with creamed spinach watery and parmesan courgettes soggy. And the service! Breezy and affable maitre d' and greeter at the restaurant but a waiting staff to a man/ women were clueless about the menu and wine list. There were language problems with questions just not understood, no attempt to sell anything to us or advice, ignorance of what is on the menu. It was a nice enough evening with my guests but in no way worth £480.

Great venue. Exceptional food although a little pricey. Had an extra bottle of wine on the final bill that we didn't order or consume. Queried the bill which was quickly amended although no apology. Mistakes happen! Overall the restaurant is very good and I can highly recommend it. I will book again in the future.

Wide range of seafood avaliable. The seafood platter seems to be popular. We had the fish pie which was piping hot with good chunks of fish and a light potato and cheese top. Service was exquisite and ambience was formal yet relaxed. It was a treat to experience that nothing had changed since my last visit.

I took a friend as a Christmas present before he went on his Christmas vacation, we have been once before and really enjoyed it. I had the best gravalax in a very long time ,my friend had bisque and said it was very tasty , I'm glad I didn't as it was a very large portion. For mains I had fish stew and although the portion wasn't big it was perfect for me , my friend had a special of grilled salmon the biggest piece I've seen served in a restaurant. For dessert I had mango , with coconut very tasty served with a basil sorbet unfortunately this certainly did not compliment the rest of it and my friend had speciality cherry Black Forest which not only looked amazing but according to him tasted as it looked this we accompanied with an Italian dessert wine . We had a bottle of Chablis premier cru which was spot on . My friend was surprised when we had an aperitif in the French House and I said I'd booked a table , glad I did as I doubt we would have got a table otherwise . I will return when I've saved enough , it is expensive but you get what you pay for , just one little quibble my friend asked for more bread and unfortunately had to ask a second time .

Originally put on a table squeezed into a corner with no room to move but once this was changed we had a great experience
The miso mackerel and smoked eel staters were excellent. Great balance of flavours and textures
My friend had the fish and chips which was great. The freshness of the cod really helps. I had the skate with caper butter which was perfectly cooked
We didn’t have pudding but the coffee was strong and had a good crema
It is expensive but you get what you pay for
