J Sheekey - The Restaurant
Food was very tasty.
Service was satisfactory.
It is in Convent Gardens which is a lovely section of town.
Unfortunately we were overcharged for our martinis, which were very small, probably 2 ounces only, and not even served in a proper martini glass. Additionally there was an 8 dollar service charge for, get this, our tablecloth and bread basket. We’ve never heard of such a thing! Also my husband ordered the grilled fish combo and it was served to him with the bone still in one of the fishes. The waiter did not tell him to watch out for bones. And he served the grilled fish to him with a spoon. How do you eat grilled fish with a spoon? These are little things, I know and easily corrected but for the price of the food, everything should have been excellent. Don’t waste your time here.
A late supper after seeing Tina Turner the musical. J Sheekey did not disappoint - it is a relaxed music free adult place to enjoy a late night meal. Our mains of Sole and Monkfish and Prawn curry were both very good. Service was fine if lacking a little in warmth though I guess it was late. My only (perennial) gripe is the wine mark up which is 3x 3.5x and the list climbs very quickly. For fish this is one of the best places in London and the dining room is lovely. Being a West End stalwart it is not cheap and our supper of 2 courses + shared pudding with one bottle of Chinon came to £198 for 2. Yes! It is very good though and for us a special treat.
Had a wonderful fish dinner prior to seeing a West End show nearby. Gracious staff. Excellent food. Will definitely return.
Lovely food and venue and amazing service and attention to detail
There is a reason this restaurant has been around forever. It's excellent. The food is always excellent. The service is attentive but not too in your face. The layout of the restaurant means it doesn't fell big and allows for a level of intimacy. It's not cheap but offers excellent value for a special night out.
Average but reliable
Wonderful seafood, delivered by polite and helpful staff.
Birthday celebration, which was booked last minute due to plan changes. The food was lovely but it was the staff who made the evening.
The staff were efficient but not very friendly or warm
The food at J Sheekey is always very enjoyable and the service very attentive.
We hadn’t been here for years but standards haven’t slipped. Excellent meal and great service.
The Dover sole which is supposed to awesome was only mediocre. The environment was fun- great location
J Sheekey’s never fails to impress. From the moment you enter, you know that your every need will be catered for.
I have been eating here for several years, the friend I visit most with always spots a well known actress or politician.
The food is the yummiest, feel good food. I had the seam bream which was perfectly cooked and seasoned and my dining partner had the sea trout. He had never eaten trout before and was slightly reluctant to go along with the waiter’s suggestion to have it slightly pink. I encouraged him to take a risk as that’s how I like it and he loved it. We had the Parmesan courgettes and summer vegetables, the latter were really outstanding.
For desert I hade the chocolate mouse which was slightly different to the norm and delicious. My friend had the black cherry dessert which was a fun take with a deconstruction. I wished I had gone for that after seeing and tasting it.
I’ll be returning again and if you love fish this is definitely not to be missed.
Wonderful food and service and a great location close to west end theatres.
Faultless, everything was perfect.
We had the seafood platter for two, and it was fantastic.
Excellent service, very attentive, ambience was spot on, would highly recommend.
You get what you pay for.
An all time favorite which just keeps delivering, lovely wine list great food and service
Average food average service in crowded place. Vine selection is good. Will never come next.
We went here after the theatre and it was fabulous. If you love fish you do not want to miss this place. Their mains and their specials were both delicious. I would definitely recommend the sole - superb. The wine list is interesting but not too extensive with some gems to be found. The place just feels like a throwback to older times - we sat at a table not at the bar and you just felt like you were taking a step back in time. The place is classy and intimate.
Ambience in the restaurant behind the reception desk was not great. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant but value for money was poor. We are at Le Caprice at lunch time and the food was much better and a similar price. The restaurant looks dated, as was the menu. It was just OK. We will not return, there are simply too many other amazing seafood restaurants in London. It clearly just trades on its history and this is simply not good enough any more. The amazing reviews must be from tourists who are wowed by its legacy or who have never experienced Michelin starred food.
We had an excellent meal, great service too from a large efficient team - well done. Sometimes famous places don't live to the hype - this did.
Post theatre dinner. Food was delicious as always and fish was super fresh. Service was a bit patchy but the place was super busy so that’s probably why. It’s usually pretty good.
We were treated with care and wonderful service. The food was delicious and the atmosphere quietly and unostentatiously elegant. I would absolutely recommend it. (We went on a friend’s recommendation.)
Service only matched by dining on the Queen Mary 2. Food extraordinary.
A traditional London restaurant. Sleek and sophisticated. Excellent food and service
food great, tasty and beautifully presented. The staff very attentive..we visited the restaurant for our anniversary and was pleasantly surprised that our desert plates they wrote happy anniversary which we had not requested...we will be returning to the restaurant again.
They can’t break their habit of rushing you through your meal. Otherwise an excellent restaurant as ever
Great seafood, booked here for a team dinner and everyone loved it. Including a French member of the team who is a food snob!
Some of the best seafood I've ever had, as always. It had been a few years since dining at J. Sheekey, and it was my first time to do so in the formal dining room versus the bar area so it was wonderful to see nothing has changed. It's always been on my list of recommended restaurants in London when friends ask and it will continue to be at the top for the quality of food, service, ambiance, history and location. Thank you!
I love this restaurant because quite simply the food is always superb. The ambiance and the service is fantastic as well but the food is awesome !
Lesson learned: Don’t go here when everyone is flooding the place in a hurry to get to the theater. It’s packed, very loud, severs can’t keep up, and the food is all over cooked.
Service was average. Not very attentive and took forever to get a final check. No coffee refill. Cover charge? C’mon.
Quality seafood and excellent service. My only issue was that it was a bit noisy as out table was directly in front of the mini kitchen area.
food was excellent but the service felt a bit rushed
Solid but pricy
J Sheekey is my favourite restaurant & has been for many years.
I always feel very at home
Great service. Great food. Felt very well looked after!
Quite disappointed by our first visit here. The service was too slow given it was a 5:45pm pre-theatre booking and the restaurant was not that busy. The food was OK but not good enough to make us want to return in a hurry. The whole experience smacked of style over substance.
One of the most sublime and memorable dining experiences of my life. You will not find better seafood anywhere in the world the dressed crab is a must as are the prawns and the sole do not pass go do not collect 200 just eat here
