J Sheekey - The Restaurant
Sheekey's Fish Pie
Grilled Dover Sole
Sautéed Razor Clams
with chorizo & broad beans
Great food and wine as you would expect, my wife and I will be returning
Sheekey is a wonderful London landmark which has kept up the quality of its food and service through many years. It is a restaurant I frequent regularly. I have a usual and favourite table which the staff remembers from time to time. The Oysters which I had last night were superb. I cannot remember having run into an unpleasant staff member. The wine list is not the most imaginative but I always find something good to drink.
The food, atmosphere and service was simply outstanding. One of the best seafood restaurants in London. Will definitely come back.
Always delicious and fun to do.
We have eaten here for many, many years, food and service always good, unusually yesterday it was very slow, which is unusual. However will continue to dine here. See you soon.
Excellent food service and phenomenal quality of seafood as always- had the dozen oysters with handmade venison sausages, the meuniere style fish and the honeycomb icecream with chocolate drizzle
Just a beautiful dining experience with old world charm and the most lovely, welcoming atmosphere.
Food and wine are exceptional but the service is the thing that makes J Sheekeys stand out to me.
Thanks for a lovely evening.
Pre opera supper first time in a while
Top class experience
Wonderful seafood restaurant
It is thoroughly French, we could have been sitting in a Parisian restaurant. As such it is busy, but the service is efficient with some waiting as you would expect in busy French restaurant, but that was fine with us as we were in no rush
The star of the evening, apart from our waiter who was excellent, was the Plateau de Fruits de Mer which was outstanding, so much seafood with every single bite being fresh as it could be & perfectly cooked & chilled, the picture is my platter for one ! & I can’t believe I ate it all. My wife’s monkfish Tikka Masala was good but she found it too rich/ saucy, but said it was personal taste not a reflection on the quality which was excellent
Also the Muscadet was beautiful
Thank You we will be back again
Very high quality, expertly cooked seafood in a great ambience.
The food was very good. I had prawn tempura and prawn and monkfish tikka masala. Both very tasty and I would happily have them again.
Very nice greetings at the door. It was busy, especially for a Monday but it took a while to take our order. We had said we were going to to the theatre and we thought we had left plenty of time. It took about twenty-five minutes to to take the order. Sadly that meant we didn't have time for pudding. Although the first two courses were enough....but it could have been a little more revenue for the restaurant. Most of the staff were really nice but one waiter was rather stern. My husband took against his manner more quickly than I did but when a younger woman nearly put my meal in front of my husband he quietly and not clearly told her three times that it was the other meal. He could have said it once, more clearly and not sounded like he was bullying her. He is not a young man and he probably takes pride in being efficient but maybe a course at a charm school might help the image of the restaurant.
That said, I would readily eat there again. All credit to the kitchen and the other staff.
Always the very best food, ambience and sense of well being!! Steeped in history and the only place to dine before or after a night at the theatre!
Warm welcome; lovely table; fantastic food; very attentive service.
Will be back very soon.
We have been dining at J Sheekey for many years but not for past couple of years. It was like meeting an old friend. Service was great but not overly fussy. Food was its usual high standard. Always worth a visit! Its a bit like visiting Rome - you will always want to return
Never fails! Wonderful fish, stylishly presented and served. Great ambiance and very convenient for the theatres - they are good at getting you out on time when you need that, but if you don't it's all very relaxed!
Lovely restaurant but a bit over priced
Amazing experience thank you
I choose J Sheekey to celebrate my birthday with high expectation, however, the service there can not make up as happy as the food... Next time I may choose other restaurant.
Bit of a disappointment after wanting to visit for a long time, for a celebratory meal.
The restaurant itself is old fashioned and very busy. The crowd were mostly a little older. The menu is great, very old school London restaurant.
The area I was in was crowded enough the waiters would step back into our table whilst serving the nearest ones. We wondered if our table was usually there it was so awkward. It was also very hot (on a cool autumn night) and I had to step out to cool down (a staff member also commented on the heat of the room)
The waiter was not very attentive, despite apparently having many staff. We asked for water which never arrived and nobody came for our order. Eventually another waiter appeared to take our order, surprised it had not appeared. We had to ask for wine and water refills (no bottle on the table).
The food though was good, good range well cooked and an excellent dessert. Beautiful oysters.
Took a long time to get the bill - it was missing the wine, which I pointed out - and then it took ages for another bill to appear. If I had the energy I may have quibbled the service charge at that point, but the room was so hot we were keen to leave.
All quite disappointing frankly. I would not recommend for a special meal.
Our long awaited meal with family was just lovely. Everyone made us so welcome, the service was impeccable and the entire meal delicious!
Overall, satisfied with the food and service. The people at the reception were warm and friendly; the servers were okay although the waitress could be friendlier and less standoffish / detached. The food was good, mostly well presented, served with no fuss or ceremony. I appreciated that one of the lady servers presented me with a dessert menu before I need to ask for it. Value for money? Perhaps it's more expensive for what you get but that is understandable for central London (I do know where to find lobsters and seafood of the same / better value not too far from the central). I also appreciate that the outside seating was well covered and sheltered and hence I still enjoyed my meal even if it was pouring and cold outside. A small note: I hope that they read the reservation details (it's apparent that they don't), e.g., I did indicate that I have lactose and gluten intolerance and even after informing the waitress of these, a few minutes later, I still got served bread and butter which I later told one of the lady servers to take away when my meal finally arrived. Overall, I would recommend this for the rare special occasion and the location; but if you're looking for good value, there are definitely other options!
Always has the best times at she’s
Our expectation was higher than the delivery. Tough we had a reservation we were sat at a tiny table in a small crowded room. The first waiter was very attentive but it was all down hill from there. The food was good, but the stew was almost cold, as well as the “hot” chocolate of the iced berries.
Staff were very attentive but the service of the food was appalling.
We waited one hour before we had our main course.
The food was well cooked and presented.
We have said yes to recommend - trusting that this delay was not its usual performance.
Charming and professional staff.
Delicious food especially the delicate tempura prawns.
My favourite restaurant by a long way! Brilliant food, service and ambiance.
We shared the mixed sashimi, which was lovely, so fresh and delicious, followed by the turbot, which was simply cooked and so full of flavour.
The service was immaculate and still lovely when we were the last people in the restaurant!
An amazing post theatre dinner.
The service was outstanding the food is on a different level worth every penny
I live now in LA, but love J Sheekey very much. The perfect place for a pre-opera supper. They excelled as usual! Bravo!
As always I love Sheekys, but would love the cheese soufflé back on the menu!
Lovely pre theatre meal with superb service, tasty cocktail and delicious food.
Best Dover sole in town!!! The perfect place to celebrate any special occasion.
Sublime in every aspect.
A fantastic restaurant that always delivers the food and wine list are excellent
Always expensive but always beautiful. Great service, fabulous food. Always feels a special place to be.
Always love it here, great food and drink, beautiful setting, great staff, very relaxed
Excellent choice of fish and seafood dishes, nice ambiance. Very pleasant place for a pre-theatre dinner.
One of my favourite restaurants in London. Been many times - never disappointed. Outstanding and welcoming service and food.
I have eaten here on many occasions. The standard of service, food and wine is amazing. I’m sure we will continue to eat here on many more occasions.
The food is fantastic. It's not cheap, but if you want something special, then it's worth paying for it.
