Jack Astor's - Pickering
In all seriousness, we take real pride in our food. Try our Cluckin’ Fresh Chicken Fingers, made and seasoned with fresh, never frozen chicken tenders. This isn’t run-of-the-mill pub grub. Our Band of Chefs are influenced by a wide variety of tastes and have travelled across the globe to gain inspiration.
But outside of the kitchen, we find it hard to take ourselves seriously. We have an Elvis booth. For no particular reason. Folks, that really does say it all. We’re sports fanatics, music nuts and love a good joke. If you’re into at least one of those things, we should hang out.
Great place, service was amazing and food was quick, tasty, and accurate. We were seated right by the bar, the music was loud but we didn't seem to mind, if you're with a family with small kids or sensitive hearing maybe request a spot in the main dining room away from the bar. We went on a Friday night around 7:00pm and glad we made a reservation because it eas busy. Shout out to our waitress, she did an amazing job!
They gave me undercooked chicken and was able to give me a replacement dinner and did not charge me. Although our server was inattentive and failed to provide us with cutlery, water, and didn’t offer dessert. Overall an alright experience.
Over all good experience
But it was hard to get a server
We had no cutlery for awhile
The calamari were little crispy things that looked like and tasted like it was leftover batter in the fry vat. Our main was good. Having said that I do like going there the servers are great, and food is consistent.
Great place to go for dinner with family. Their bowl dishes are very good. Cauliflower appetizer is the best around
This was the worst experience I've had at Jack's, the food was terrible and worst yet we found s plastic tie in one of the salads. Additionally, the food quality has declined and the rice in the honey sesame chicken was soggy and tasteless. I will not be dining at Jack Astors in future. I'd rather cook at and eat a more enjoyable meal at home.
Family dinner. Busy and noisy but expected. Food good and service was efficient and hospitable.
We tried some of the new bowls and salads on the menu.
I used to love the Sesame Chicken bowl on the old menu.
So decided to try the new Sesame bowl with sweet chili Thai sauce on the new menu.
Chicken or shrimp has to be added as an add on now.
The chicken is no longer breaded like the old bowl
I found it had too much sauce and was quite spicy hot. I will not have it again. No where near as good as the old option.
I hope they bring back their old Sesame Chicken bowl eventually.
My friend ordered the Buddha salad bowl.
It said it came with goat cheese , greens , strawberries , mango, apple , watermelon, different seeds etc.
It did not say it comes with cilantro. It was one of the reasons she selected it. She detests cilantro. Many other items on the menu stated they contained cilantro. So when it was not noted on menu it was assumed it was not included in salad.
My friend was disappointed with this salad as well. First because cilantro was in it.
There were maybe 5 tiny specks of goat cheese. Strawberries were barely slivers , very scarce. Same with mango and other fruit.
She expected larger pieces of fruit , or at least quartered strawberries.
Server was very attentive. Chicken Nachos were average at best. Very pricey for a pitcher of beer, nachos and a pound and half of wings
I usually really like Jack Astor's and go quite often however this time around I was not pleased with the food. I got the chicken pad thai and it was extremely dry and flavourless. We also had to wait quite some time for the waitress to come back with the bill. we actually had to go find her. All in all not my best experience.
Emily was an awesome server. Took especially good care of us. Great meal.
Wanted to use my open table cheque but they didn’t honour it. Manager told me they moved out of open table and signed with Dine Time. ☹️
But still had a great time at the restaurant.
We have been here many times before and this is the first time service was extremely slow and the food was cold. All of our meals had to be reheated.
This is our go-to place for family bday celebration dinner. Decided to try Mexican salad but it wasn't good, too much dressing, and hardly any mixed green, mostly lettuce. My daughter loves the kid menu stir fry and the original chicken strips were great, very crispy!
Excellent experience, great for an early evening dinner with family
Went there to celebrate my sons graduation 2 of the five dinners were cold and had to keep asking for basics, cutlery, knapkins drinks and the desert menu was sadly disappointed
Father's Day - Horrible experience, but in the end I was given some compensation. A lovely waitress took our order (no issues with her). Another waitress brought our food - 1 item incorrect - came back w/proper order. I ordered plain salmon & salad of mixed greens w/no dressing - simple right? No! They had all fish pre-marinated & I couldn't have the ingredients in the marinade. I was offered chicken - no problem right? No! Another waitress brought me 1/2 a dry chicken breast on top of iceberg lettuce coated in dressing. I asked where the mixed greens were and why the dressing is on the lettuce. They ran out of mixed greens. I said, ok, bring me chicken with romaine (dressing on side/again). Simple right? No! I was brought more dry chicken on top of a bed of kale with the dressing on. Ummm! I kept my cool and asked what's up with the kale and dressing on again. I was informed they ran out of romaine. I can't digest and dislike raw kale and the dressing was on it still. I said, ok, just bring me back the chicken and iceberg lettuce but charge me less. I wasn't about to pay a premium salad price for iceberg lettuce and 1/2 a dried up chicken breast... They said ok. Please note that at this point everyone else was 3/4 of the way through their meals. They came back and said, "You aren't going to believe this.." I said that nothing would shock me at this point... and so they ran out of lettuce all together. I watched everyone finish their meal. I was so hungry but kept my cool. I told them how ridiculous the whole thing is but that it is what it is... I requested a discount off the bill. Acknowledged.... I received a discount as well as a JA Gift Cert. My main concern with this location is that the male "bartender/waiter/" who was working at the time blamed my original waitress for the order mix ups. He said, "Sorry about that. She is new and doesn't know anything". Not her fault Mr.! Shame on you. To the Manager: Thank you for compensating me
Inattentive staff made my overall experience very stressful.
Went for a Birthday and had a great time. Our server was friendly and knew the menu.
Went there for a specific menu item and it was great as always.
Great place to hang out with family and friends, kids love the food and the beer selection is awesome
We had a birthday celebration and were able to bring a cake. Our waitress Courtney also brought a brownie for the bday dude. We had great service! Thanks!
Good food. AMAZING service. Our server Courtney who was new, made what would have been an average night out for drinks, a fun and personable experience. We even left with souvenirs of the evening...
The food is over priced for what it is. And I am still surprised that the waitresses dress the way they do. Is it not 2019 and we are more aware? It definitely makes women feel uncomfortable and as soon as I walked it I recalled why I hadn't been there in several years. Not a place you want to take your family.
We enjoyed the food. Jerica, our server was excellent! She provided an above average level of service. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She was very pleasant t and that added to our dining experience!
Excellent service and fun atmosphere. We were there for my daughter’s birthday and they really took care of our group. Very attentive
We went for my son’s birthday he really enjoyed it
The service was too slow. When we sat down, the waitress took too long to take our order.
The portion size was too small. You get bigger portions at other places. The "fajitas" plate did not have many varieties as compare to other places (please look into this). You need more vegetarian dishes also. More healthy options for non-alcoholic shakes. Include more vegetarian soup options. Need to do seniors/birthday discounts.
food at pickering jack Astors is by far the best, I've tried other jack Astors but don't get the same service. I love coming to this one for dates or just for fun, the workers have yet to displease me. I will come back as always.
Way too noisy. Couldn't hear each other and had to raise our voices. We were beside a large party of teenaged who were loud and it affected our enjoyment of dinner.
Need more variety on menu. The food was good but there wasn't enough variety
It was New Year's Eve! So it was packed and the noise level extreme. Staff was amazing and appeared to be coping extremely well. Food we ordered arrived in a timely manner.
I was a little disappointed to have to wipe up ketchup from the table and seat prior to sitting down, but our server apologized.
Next was the glass for my wine. It was probably one of the dirtiest (not just water stained) that I have ever been served. Again, our server apologized and replaced the glass and it’s full contents.
New Year’s Eve! Was lively and a nice family vibe. Our waiter was great!
The food wasn't that good the portions were small. The prices were expensive for portions size. I wouldn't have mine if the food tasted good. I will never go back.
The specials are great to try. Change from the standard menu fair.
Terrible! Food is mediocre, at best, and way overpriced. $20 for a bowl of rice, a tsp of sauce and 3 small pieces of tuna???!! Outrageous.
Our bill was over $100 for a drink, 3 entrees (overcooked chicken fingers, a burger and a tiny rice bowl) and one dessert. This is food you can expect at a rundown pub....all for one-third the price!
We’ve eaten here before and wanted to give it another chance. It was our daughter’s special birthday dinner, and this was the restaurant she chose. Huge regret. Could have had a top-notch dinner at a fine restaurant for what we paid. Will not eat here again and DO NOT recommend this place.
The only upside was our server. He was pleasant and engaging (although he forgot two of the standard condiments we requested)
Surprised us with a dessert on the house, as it was a special occasion. Nice touch!
Took forever for water to come out. Asked more than three times. Food also took a while and was cold.
Also booked this restaurant as a surprise birthday dinner which I wrote on the OpenTable note for the restaurant to see. When I arrived with the person that the surprise was for, the hostess kept asking about how many people the reservation was for and if any kids were arriving. I had to answer these questions in front of the surprise celebrant. He thought the dinner was only for me and him. However, after answering these questions - he became skeptical. The hostess ruined the surprise.
The food was very good(ordered the fajitas-steak & shrimp)Gave us a corner booth which I requested & the service & server(Julie) was excellent.I will be back very soon.
Good service, food was good but would not recommend the steak. A bit over cooked and pricey (same prices as the Keg but poorer quality and amount).
