Jamie's Italian, Cardiff
During summer, we open up our beautiful outdoor terrace, which is an amazing spot for watching the world go by with a nice cold glass of Prosecco and some of our delicious Italian food.
Quite noisy and full, but very good.
We all chose the lunch time specials which offered great value for money at £11.95 for 2 courses. Our waitress was friendly and extremely attentive.
All the waitresses and waiters were excellent. The meal itself the pastor was too thick and was very al dente to the point of being hard. It was a pity because the sources were good. The garlic bread was delicious.
Great for some of us. Menu/recipes were a little too fussy with two many ingredients for the people we were dining with. No flexibility to deviate from any ingredients which indicates they're already made up.
It was the Saturday night of Wales v England at Rugby so it was very busy and very noisy, but our table was ready for us and we had our food within 1/2 hour of arriving. The food was fabulous, even though they got my husbands meal wrong he thouroughly enjoyed it and we all cleared our plates. If you like Italian food we would recommend Jamie’s Italian to anyone, it was excellent 🥰 thank you to all the staff for the fabulous service, even though it was crazy busy they were very quick and very polite.
Lovely meal but the drinks are very expensive so we just had the free cocktail because my wife has a gold card.
Food was fantastic, very comfortable setting had to wait 40 mins for our table but it was Valentine’s Day. Even do would go again
Busy Saturday night, choice of table not ideal as small space in gangway next to bar.
However fabulous service and very good food more than compensated. Server was so on the ball......very engaging too. Pork chop was best ever. Great cocktails too.
Might have helped if the restaurant have actually noted the booking!
Jamie Oliver can serve up a decent bowl of pasta.
I mean if you're looking for Michelin level cuisine this isn't it but you get generous portions of hot, tasty food and it isn't outrageously expensive. Good spot to just drop in, eat and go.
very nice place set out well and not got tables on top of each other which Jamie's kitchen in Bristol has.
good food bread and pasta fresh and tasted great and the dessert sharing board looked and tasted lovely.
This was a family celebration for my son's 18th birthday. It didn't feel very special. Staff were pleasant but seemed too busy. The lighting was not good and it was difficult to see the menu as a result. We felt pushed into a corner in the back of the restaurant near the kitchens and staff were constantly squeezing around our chairs.. It was cold in the restaurant. The portions of pasta were very small and not worth the money. Desserts were not as described. The whole experience was OK but not special and it should have been. Definitely not worth the £22 service charge added to the bill! Would go somewhere else next time. We were a family of 11 from different parts of the country but the table was so long we hardly saw each other, a bit of thought and better arrangement of the table would have been helpful. Ambience was much nicer downstairs, we were also near a very noisy fridge upstairs!
We had a great time booking easy to do, service was great and polite didn't wait long for food at all x portion was big and tasty recommend to anyone and good value for money x
Lovely meal before going to watch the rugby. I am a Gold Club Card holder so was informed I was to receive a free bottle of Prosecco, a taster dessert (which my husband ate) and a birthday Brownie. All of the food was superb and the waitress was attentive and friendly. A lovely lunch before the freezing coldness of rugby spectating!
Awesome food, fantastic service, superb staff !! Highly recommended even though they were super busy when we went, the overall experience was second to none !! Would go again :)
The food was excellent. Service very good too. I was eating alone and had chose to eat at Jamie's as would feel comfortable to do this there.
As soon as we walked in staff said Happy Birthday to my husband,a bottle of Hamies Prosecco was already on the table and poured for us as soon as we sat down. The waiter was able to explain the menu and offered recommendations on dishes! We enjoyed 3 amazing courses, enjoyed the atmosphere and when recieving the bill saw we had the prosecco as a birthday gift and also £10 taken off for the January offer! Lovely surprise to end the evening- love Jamies Italians and already planning our February visit!
Not like a chain restaurant at all. Lovely fresh food and amazing service. Had the tastiest cocktails. Couldn't recommend more. Not cheap but worth the money!
I absolutely love eating here. The food is always outstanding and there is a good selection of food on the menu, and also a specials board to choose from.
The staff are always very friendly and most helpful.
I also had a dessert as a treat and it was the best cheesecake I have ever tried
I love Jamie's but we went before Christmas and were disappointed in the lack of specials before Christmas. the same menu was still running for this visit. I enjoyed it. When we went when it first opened they had an orange mince pie. Just little things to make this restaurant different from others. Portions are a little small even ordering the so called large.
I'm a gold club member & booked a table for 3 for my birthday at 7pm, we had to wait for a table which we didn't mibd but didn't receive our drinks until 7.45! Waitress' English was poor & she didn't tell us the specials. When I asked for the vegetarian menu which they had previously provided I was told they don't do it anymore, my options were limited to 3 sides & 2 mains. The "seasonal vegetables" consisted of kale in garlic water & the "funky chips" were predominantly under cooked. The manager offered me another choice but wig little to choose from & the other parties finishing their meals I didn't want another side dish. All in all I ate half of the funky chips. Couldn't fault the management they tried to rectify but it was way too late by that point the service & food (especially vegetarian options) were poor, I was more than gutted to say the least as I've always raved about the place to friends & family. This is the first time I've had anything bad to say about the place whih is quite sad. Safe to say I won't be going back in a hurry!
Great food, good value & lively atmosphere. Unfortunately due to the disabled lift being over loaded I ended up being stuck for 15 minutes whilst the staff tried to open the door with an emergency key. It was scary & I do not like small spaces. It proved highly amusing when the Manager also became stuck trying to reset the lift! Come on people respect the disabled, no excuse!!!
There was something missing during of vistit.Definitely was the service. We couldn't inform the waitress about the food being salty, which some may say that it is personal. We feel that the chef should at least know that for us personally it was salty. The service team were rushed and look miles away from the venue. The bread order arrived without olive tapenade, no cheese was offered for the pasta dishes and others service details were mising which could have made our experience better.
welcome friendly attentive staff talked us through the days specials
food good well presented with great flavours
i had the liver which came with a citrus flovoured sauce which went really well, my wifes chicken thigh was dressed no ugly bones and really tender
another enjoyable treat after a bit of new year shopping
In Cardiff for the day. So many places to choose for lunch. But I find myself drawn back to Jamie's. It can be a bit on the noisy side for me (probably a reflection of the building fabric). The menu is solidly Italian, but innovative and with a real nod to local sourcing. I chose the vegetarian platter. Perfectly balanced and so, so tasty. Great house wine, too. And charming and attentive service. Do visit!
Previously had excellent experience, this occasion very average many items not available on menu due to delivery problems, lamb dish poor quality cut of meat and desserts taste presentation very amateur.
Had a great meal. All the food was delicious, a good varied menu, we took our 3 children who were well catered for. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. The atmosphere was buzzing.
We went on a early dinner with 2 children. On arrival they were already out of 2 of the mains. Our daughter ordered the kids fish option but they ran out of that too. But we were lucky to order the last portion of lamb. The food we received was tasty. I think it's great place to try something new.
I've eaten here on a number of occasions, and every time the food is excellent, service attentive and polite, ambience good and value for money is excellent. The menu is a little restricted for vegetarians, but the starters are more than enough to compensate for this ! Just one small niggle - the tables on the first level are a little too close to one another which makes a slightly 'cramped' feeling !
My party of 4 arrived for our 8:30 booking early and were seated on time. However when we made our choices from the menu we were told that 3 items had been sold out, one of these being a mushroom dish (simple answer buy some mushrooms locally ). One of the members of the group had an allergy to chillies and the dish he ordered did not indicate it contained chillies. Luckily he has a minor allergy and it caused his tongue to blister. When we went to order our deserts there were further items sold out. Not a good experience and will not return. This review will also be posted on trip advisor.
I was disappointed with my main - I'd order the prawn linguine, but it only had a few prawns in it - maybe 4-5 and they weren't whole, but broken up into pieces. given the cost, this was not good value. the staff at the restaurant are very friendly but were possibly overstretched. i wanted a second drink but no one came to check if i wanted one and even after i attracted the attention of the waiter it took ages for the drink to arrive. also the salt and pepper on the table were empty and i'd eaten 1/2 of my main before someone brought me a pepper grinder that worked. i also wanted some parmesan but the waitress ran off before i could ask. left feeling that the whole thing could have been a bit better!
Enjoyed the food and the waiter did offer to have a dish made gluten free for me which I accepted. However, the service was not excellent as I hoped it would be. Noone came to take our drinks order so I had to ask the lady manning the front of house to order them. I asked for a gluten free menu when I arrived and was told that there wasn't one but the waiter knew all the GF options. The waiter didn't come to the table for ten minutes so I wast able to decide what I wanted but as I said he did have a dish made GF for me.
The drinks took a long time to come and the waiter didn't offer any information about the specials that were written on a board in the distance.
The main was nice, we both had the porcini mushroom dish and had the olives as an appetiser which are always amazing !
I did enjoy the visit, we asked to sit downstairs as I find upstairs very dark so we had a table we were really happy with, I always like the hustle and bustle of Jamie's and whilst I have been let down by the food in the past, the service has always been great. This time it was the other way round. It was average serice but not excellent. Still left a top though !
excellent food, excellent service, will return frequently, and recommend you to others!
My trip to Jamie's Italian was a very pleasant experience. Although our table was not immediately ready we were offered seats at the to wait, which was around 15 minutes and so wasn't that bad.
The food was divine (although I can't see how you can really go wrong with bolognese), however I would have preferred it if the portions were a little bigger, especially for over £10 per main. The service was also brilliant with our waitress wearing a smile on her face and who spoke in a way that made you feel right at home.
All in all, we both extremely enjoyed our trip to Jamie's Italian and plan on going there again soon. We will also be recommending this establishment to our friends.
Food was absolutely fantastic!
Our table was pre booked for 8:15. The resturant was so busy when we arrived that we had to wait 20mins for our table and so did many other people. We ordered drinks from the bar while we waited. But our experience of the bar staff unfortunately was not a good one. After ordering drinks the young girl who seved us Produced part of our change and then explained that she didn't have the rest so she would 'owe' it to us!! Then she contined to avoid us for the duration. We stood at the bar waiting for another drink and she served everybody around us as if we were invisible. When we mentioned to the waiter at our table that we were owed money from the bar, he just kind of shrugged it off with a smirk on his face. Neadless to say... We never did see the money we were owed! So this did somewhat spoil our experience as we were not expecting such an unprofessional service. When ordering it was apparent that about a third of the menu was unavailable which was quite frustrating, However. The food was fantastic. My husband felt his was a little over seasoned. But mine I have to say, was perfect. Price quite reasonable. Service reasonably quick and portions a good size.
This is a regular eating place for special occasions for myself and family. Sadly this was spoiled as we were seated near the door and as it was a busy lunchtime, the door was constantly opened bringing in a very cold breeze.
Sadly on this special occasion we were told immediately on sitting down that certain items were not on the menu. Then after ordering for the children the waiter came back and told us their choice was not on the menu! So they ended up having basically burgers. Then even my very basic Italian seafood risotto had run out! This was just 7pm on a big family day before Christmas and I cannot believe the buyers had not prepared, knowing how busy this time of year is. When I got exasperated the manager said the chef would make me a risotto specially and gave our table starters while we waited, which was kind. However the risotto was overwhelmed by the taste of cheap mackerel so overall this was sadly a very disappointing night out which was supposed to be a special family get together. I love the atmosphere at Jamie's Italian, Cardiff, and the interesting healthy options, so please guys, step up, Jamie has a great reputation to uphold and we'd like to come back!
We had the Christmas set menu with proscetta for £29.95. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a sharing starter as we were under the impression this deal was two course. The food was outstanding! Full of flavour and perfectly cooked and very well presented. On top of this the service was quick, efficient and very friendly. We had a lovely Christmas meal and thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Service was very amateur and very slow in general. Service staff appeared very flustered and we were always having to be the ones calling for them for all and sundry which created awkwardness. We opted for the £35 xmas menu, they didn't have the £30 xmas menu to show us. We were a party of 4, their mixed starter was okay but very standard as a share board style, considering it was supposed to be a xmas menu. We asked for bread and even though our total bill was around £200 they still charged xtra for this, surely should have been included, when you supply cold meats etc with the share board. Mains were average, we had the Steak and Turkey options. By the time the puddings came we had to go as our rebooked taxi was waiting due to the very long waits between course orders. We asked for this to go but they didn't have any boxes for this so gave us some foil to put it in for the brownies to go, which tasted quite nice after we got home. Overall very disappointed, supposed to be a special Xmas occasion and was sub standard in general.
