Our table was booked for 12:45 and two of the four of us had starters which didn’t arrive till 1:30 and the mains didn’t arrive till 2:15!!!
Even though they didn’t charge us for the three desserts we had, as compensation, we had ordered more drinks as the time dragged on. So they had more money from us. The girls were very apologetic but the previous time we went a couple of years ago service was nearly as bad so it had put us off. But we gave it another chance as food good. However this has maybe put us off for good now. Shame.
Food was very good. The staff were helpful and friendly. A good spot in the summer.
A nice menu that showed imagination away from the usual pub food.
The staff were excellent very helpful not rushing you through. The food was excellent and the best we have had for a while.
Lovely pub, great service, highly recommend to all types of groups looking for a yummy Sunday lunch!
The Jolly Sailor has always been a beautiful pub, set in a fantastic location. But in more recent years the food has been transformed and it now means the Jolly is an excellent place to visit for both a few drinks and a sit down meal. The range of food is impressive but the quality is one of the best in the local area. The staff were friendly and helpful and we would certainly go back again soon.
Excellent service, food and ambience. We usually dine in the evenings but this was a special lunch and w were not disappointed.
Good food, good service and great location.
Glad the menu has changed for the better again.
Due to special occasion two had lobster which unfortunately were over cooked & chewy
Lamb tenderloin wasn’t great but everything else was good
We didn’t want to complain on the night due to making it an unpleasant ending
Staff though was very good
Enjoyable meal. Nice touch with a welcome glass of Prosecco as it was Valentines Daypkus a heart shaped merangue for their Eton mess.
Excellent food and service. Took my father as a special occasion and wasn't disappointed.
Our first time here but definitely not our last, lovely cosy pub, very polite, friendly and helpful staff and excellent food, I only wish it was a bit was closer to us as would definitely be our local to be used on a regular basis.
Got lost getting there, but was worth every minute of the drive, wonderful setting, lovely warm relaxed atmosphere and very efficient service. Good quality, well presented food.
Great food, good service, would definitely recommend
A lovely friendly atmosphere, very quaint building and the outlook was superb. the food was delicious and enjoyed by everyone. I would definitely recommend this place to others. Perhaps not to very elderly people as the steps down to the pub are very steep
Lovely atmosphere, staff were very attentive.
The food was amazing.
It was a wonderful evening
Shame we had to rush while we were there but food and service was excellent and hoping to go back during the summer months
Probably our 6th visit - and each time we are delighted with the food and friendliness of the staff.
It's a really great pub.
Overall food was OKish but the products which were clearly not prepared on the premises were very poor
The chicken pie would have benefited from having some chicken in it!! Lovely pastry and flavoured sauce but where was the chicken I sent the first one back and the second one was only marginally better Needed some solid pieces
The flan which was clearly made and brought in had pastry that was more like concrete and couldn't be eaten
We had booked a table and were seated quickly, and the pub wasn't too busy for a cold January Friday night. The food was good but we had finished our meal and had asked for the dessert menu. No-one came back to us with it or to ask again if we wanted anything else (drinks etc), so lost income to the pub. Otherwise, it was a good night with good food and good atmosphere, but service a bit intermittent.
In addition to the table with a waterfront view of the Hamble, the absolutely delicious Sunday roast was worth the drive from Southsea. The dessert was exceptional too and the staff very attentive and informative.
After a long walk we had the most wonderful Sunday lunch and all freshly cooked. The Jolly Sailor has the most spectacular views will be returning and well worth a visit if you have never been.
Really great Sunday lunch, hadn’t been to the jolly sailor for a number of years but really pleased to have re-discovered this lovely tucked away pub along the River Hamble
This pub is a favourite for our family. Wonderful views over the river hamble, great food and a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Lovely ambiance, yummy food, friendly and excellent service for our family meal, what’s not to like?
Always a good meal, lots of choice. Staff very attentive and just love the log fire!
5th time at the Jolly Sailor and as always a great mean and experience.
Staff are friendly
Please don’t tell everyone about the Jolly Sailor they might all come and it up...it’s our local and is amazing...
Visiting in the area and have been to this pub before. Although it's around 300 miles from where I live it would be on my favorites pub list and I visit whenever I'm in the area. Lovely place, great staff and great food.
We eat and drink in the Jolly Sailor at least once a week. This review is for New Years Eve. Unfortunately it was not as full as we had expected and there was no live music, albeit the staff were amazing and really looked after you and the food was exceptional especially the beef wellington. This place is an little gem, has a great atmosphere and the food is always well cooked and wholesome.
Great food and nice atmosphere. Had to wait awhile for the food to come.
Hd a nice evening with friends. Food was good and quick service. Well priced.
Recommended by a colleague, well worth the trip, will be going again.
Great meal and a very friendly staff. I have no hesitation in recommending it.
Great food; and extensive choice beyond the regular Sunday Lunch menu.
Staff polite and the bar was dog friendly for us post a lovely autumnal walk along the Hamble.
Beautiful waterfront setting.
A good venue especially in the summer, but just as good during the dark evenings of Autum. Cosy with real fires, witth attentive waiting/bar staff and excellent food. Despite an early booking the service became slow especially at the end of the meal as the sweets ordered were mislaid in the kitchen.
Much improved food & service after a diabolical visit a year ago. (So bad we didn't bother taking them up on a free meal offer!) Friendly, helpful staff almost 5 stars but seemed to forget about us after bringing the bill.
We had a very nice experience at the Jolly Sailor meeting up with family for Sunday lunch. The food was very good and the ambiance overlooking the river was lovely. Our little dog was made very welcome.
Great service (especially Tarquin), and new menu is just great value/quality
Access is horrible, but well worth the effort
Me and my girlfriend went for date night and it was just lovely. The atmosphere was really cosy and the location was stunning. The customer service was brilliant, and the food was very tasty. We're already planning on going again at some point, and I've already recommended it to my friends. Overall very pleased.
We were staying in the area for a birthday party so having been before I decided to book a table for a quiet meal before the party. Food was lovely and such a lovely location.
