   waiter very friendly and nice.. excelty service. great food something different. would recommend it to everyone. unique food different to your regular restaurant so if u fancy something different i would definitely try khublai khan .. really enjoyed eating here and would go back again.

   Khubli Khan offers a dynamic, fun way of having a large communal meal among friends. The "Mongolian Barbeque" allows you to try out some exotic meats, like Llama, Buffalo and Kangaroo, and make your own dishes from an huge array of spices and sauces. The chef cooks it on a giant metal disc (reminiscent of the Mongols shields perhaps?). The only menu option at the time of day we went, was the "Full Banquet", which gives you a starter, dessert and as many trips to the barbeque as you can handle. It's okay, and I've been a few times, but each time it gets more expensive and less worth it. Now it's 25 quid without drinks. As most dishes end up similar, going once, maybe twice, in your life is a fun experience, but more is not worth the cost.

   Excellent tasty food with a bit of a twist. If you enjoy being creative with your food then this the place is for you. There are recipes to follow, or simply throw in what you fancy and see if it works, whilst also trying some new meats that you might not have had on your plate before - zebra, kangaroo, wild boar, to name but a few. A great way to get everybody involved in the whole food experience, and the good atmosphere and friendly staff ensure a great evening will be had.

   Firstly greeted by pleasant welcoming staff who explaining dining in Khublai Khan's easily, you area quickly seated and service is faultless. Secondly onto the food, providing you with a taste of exotic foods with your own mix of herbs, spices, oils, veg and rice/noodles, it is Unbelievable! Every recipe tasted different and you can eat what you like! Great to try small portions just a couple of mouthfuls and keep going back to get the best out of your experience. Lastly the surroundings make it an enjoyable place to eat with the authenticity of a Mongolian restaurant that you will not find elsewhere in Edinburgh! Would recommend to everyone to try any day of the week not just on a special occasion!

   This was my first time here last Thursday night and we came with a groupon voucher, the service was very good they always asked if everything was ok and were very pleasant in chatting with us. The food was great and being able to watch the chef cook it was great. A great place to go and we will definitely return for the full menu next time. It really was a great experience

    There were 4 in our party and we all had a really enjoyable time. We were not rushed and the atmosphere was relaxed. All the staff were attentive and friendly. The decor was lovely and the fireplaces added real warmth. Would definitely go again; it is different and fun.

    My sister, myself and four-year-old niece, came for lunch and loved the ambiance. We felt that we were really transported to a far-away land. The service was wonderful, Steven was running an amazing one man show on the dining floor and did so very efficiently. The food was very tasty, we did not go for any of the exotic meats but stuck to seafood and followed one of the recommended sauce/spice guidelines. the results were great. I will definitely go back.

    The atmosphere of Khublai Khan was extremely joyful and energetic. The staff was welcoming and the waiters friendly, and the service fast and efficient. It was definitely a unique restaurant experience, because not only were the kinds of foods available (exotic meats) unusual and exciting, but one also had to make the dishes out of a selection of ingredients (which would then be cooked by a chef). Delicious dishes! Great value for money as you could eat as much as you wanted of varieties of food with all kinds of sauces! I would warmly recommend this, in particular for those looking for something a little different and those who are adventurous to try out new foods. A memorable experience for special occasions.

    Had dinner with the family (10 & 16 year old's) everyone had a great time really enjoyed the meal and the different experience. My kids really enjoyed the experience of selecting the different ingredients. We arrived for a 7pm booking and it was very quiet so limited atmosphere but this soon changed as more people arrived. Staff were very friendly and helpful, felt the soft drinks were a little expensive but otherwise we had a good time and tasty food.

    We booked this via a group on in a trip to Edinburgh, and as we favour Leith over the city centre this restaurant's location WS ideal. Food was different to run if the mill, portions were ample and loved the choice of teas to finish off. She didn't try the banquet but it certainly looked good and I liked how the place mats explained how to make up the different marinades to cook your meat yourself. Lovely ambience though could be little warmer.

    I highly recommend this restaurant as a great place to spend afternoon or evening. Great fun to make the own dish! We paid only a half a price for lunch for 2 using the Groupon voucher - it was a great deal. Friendly staff!

    The bar and a small part of the restaurant had 2 fires. Unfortunately, the rest of the restaurant did not have any heating on (February) and unless you were sitting right beside the fire, it was uncomfortably cold. Starters were very tasty but was not that impressed with Mongolian 'make your own' dish. I followed the instructions and recipe but my dish was far too strong and salty, the five spice being overpowering. Wish I had ordered something made by chef.

    I had various meats I'd never tried including Llama, Crocodile and Zebra. Food was delicious. For that I would go back, but bad service. They brought dishes for other tables to our table, took 15 mins to bring a pint and a glass of wine, stood around in the queue, waiting on a sauce that had run out so long that I ended up just handing the dish to the chef to be cooked without it and was told when we arrived at 6pm that we had to leave the table by 7.30 and when it took around 15-20 mins to cook each dish, we felt rushed, phoned a taxi at 7.45 and then were offered dessert, by then the taxi was on it's way and we'd made other plans. When the taxi was there, we went to pay our bill and waited another 10 minutes for them to add it up.

    My husband and I booked a table for lunchtime on a Saturday afternoon. My husband is in a wheelchair and needs accessible places to accommodate his wheelchair. Other than a couple of wee steps upon entering we had no problems getting the wheelchair to fit. He wasn't able to go down to the raw food buffet, but I was able to fix food for him. It is warm, cozy and has pleasant international music playing for its diners. The selection of exotic meats was vast, with plenty of spices and sauces to compliment (they provide recipes of spice/sauce combos that are very informative and tasty)! The staff is very friendly and prompt. The food is delicious and well proportioned. We enjoyed our experience and will definitely be coming back for more.

    We went there as a treat for our son's 14th birthday. Little did we know that he would be dressed up in the full Mongolian gear and sit in a fancy chair at the head of the table! He was mortified but chuffed at the same time. We tried all the meats - zebra, crocodile, springbok, llama - not your usual stir-fry meats! Unfortunately, the place was empty when we were in, which affected the ambience...

    Dined here for a family meal. If you like something unusual this is the place for you. You choose your starter and pudding from the menu and it is 'buffet' style for your main course. Cost is £25 pp. For main you get a metal bowl which you take to the buffet and fill with your choice of rice, noodles, beansprouts, various veg, etc. You then go to the meat/seafood section and take your choice there - the night we visited there was zebra, kangaroo, boar, plus the usual beef, chicken, venison...... After that you create your sauce using the ingredients on display. The chef then cooks it for you. You can repeat this as often as you like! Staff are very pleasant and eager to assist. Not the place if you like a traditional sit down meal.

    Been here 3 or 4 times now, each and every time I am just amazed at the service, atmosphere and the food is constantly cooked to perfection. Also, seeing as you make your own main courses, you know you're going to love it!! Starters always delicious and desserts always devine. Oh, and the cocktails - delicious!! Best restaurant ever, fact!

    Visited this week for a special meal with family. Servers explained how restaurant worked. The servers were excellent very attentive in what was a relaxed atmosphere. There were couples, small groups and large. Everyone seemed to enjoy. The food was great and cooked fresh and prompt. Would recommend especially if you fancy something a wee bit different.

    Kangaroo, zebras and"crocodile" croquette (who knows what's actually in them) and on the menu. Terracotta warriors and katana swords as decorations, Japanese tea and Thai beer on the drinks list, and Scot waiters who don't have a clue, but assume you are dumb enough to believe them. A complete disappointment.

    Been to Kublai Khan in Newcastle, and it was quite good. However the Edinburgh version was far from this. Décor was a real DIY job and did not really capture the Mongolian feel. Music was hitty missy ( sometimes on sometimes deadly silent ). We were not explained how the menu worked - even though I had been to a similar set up. The help yourself ingredients were very basic and meat not great either. Starters were very average, although two out of three of ours were sent back as being cold. Sweets were again basic but passable ( nothing Mongolian about any of them ) - Baileys cheesecake not a great seller in Mongolia I think. Our bill was around £ 80 for three of us. Better value about.

    Really enjoyed eating here, the staff were very friendly and,even though it was very busy the service was fairly good. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who loves meat and can easy a lot as you really need a big appetite as it's fairly pricey. Would certainly go again as it's a great place to take friends/visitors but a bit too much for regular dining.

    Not really a place I would take a vegetarian, but with 3 kids between 6 and 13 this is a perfect place to come - make your own dishes, choosing spices, sauces, and most importantly: a wide range of animals, from zebra and springbok, through to kangaroo, boar, pheasant and baby octopus. My children had a great time trying to work through all the animals on the list, and experimenting quite successfully with their own recipes.

    The staff were really good, even the new girl (it was her first night) was really reiendly and went out of their way to do everything they could to make our expearance a good one. The choice of starters was rather poor, The menu has recently changed and is not as good. There were three members of my party, and none of us really liked any of the starters. The main cource selection is wonderful. All the food was fresh and the place very clean. We had a memver of the party with alergies, her food was cooked speratly every time after only asking once. That member of the party could eat none of the pudings, we were looking forward to the marsebar cake and the malteasers. The carrot cake was dry. Two of the pudings were alcahall flavourd :(

    Hi, I booked a table through the website and was extremely disappointed to find out that when I attended the before mentioned restaurant that my time was going to be restricted at my table. I attended the restaurant at half past 6 and was informed that I had to be off the table by quarter past 8, now I can understand that you may not receive such notification when booking online but I was disappointed nonetheless. This is a venue that I frequent often for special occasions but I can honestly say that I Wouldn't have on this occasion had I known my time was going to be restricted. This was a special occasion for the both of us and this wasn't the service we were expecting. Apart from that I can't complain. Food great/service poor.

    Me and my boyfriend went along to Kubla Kham on a Saturday evening after it was recommended by my dad. We went prior to a comedy show. It was a great and unique food experience. The Mongolian Feast is a great deal, You get a lovely starter with great choices including kanagaroo haggis and wild boar, then the main event is the mongolian bbq, followed by a delicious desert. The only downside to our trip was that we didn't have more time. I would strongly suggest that you go along to this restaurant with the thought in mind to make the visit your main event for the night and have as much time as possible. The food is so fresh and tasty and as it is buffet style you can go up as many times as you like. Thoroughly recommended!

    We went as a foursome and enjoyed the experience but found the place lacked much atomosphere so maybe better going as a group. This was despite the 'mongolian' decor and several tables being full. We preferred less spicey herb mixes so we could differentiate the meats. We had the red meats. Amused it being Mongolian as, apart from Horse, we thought most of the fish and red meats would not be available in Mongolia, but liked the bar B Q type prep etc. Starters and pud were good but wouldn't know that the haggis was horse as tasted just like beef but hey, maybe all offel is the same! Pre theatre is the groupon deal we had and would fill most people, so good value.
