La Garrigue is a French bistro located at 31 Jeffrey Street, just a stone's throw from Edinburgh's famous Royal Mile and minutes away from Waverley station. The restaurant is themed around the culinary specialities of the Languedoc region of France, offering rustic French home cooking with a modern touch. Owner and chef Jean Michel Gauffre’s exhaustive knowledge of the region helps in presenting the best of pastoral French cuisine and an ambience that evokes southern France. Since its opening in 2001, La Garrigue has earned plenty of critical commendations. It is a fitting venue for an intimate lunch or dinner experience as well as for small group events, with a menu that is updated almost daily. Apart from delicious lunch and dinner recipes, it has a separate all-day menu. The wine list is extensive and is suitably representative of Languedoc, the largest of France's wine producing regions.

It's impressive simply that La Garrique can stay open, since Edinburgh palettes might not be really familiar with the flavours of the Languedoc region. The food was well-described, well-executed and fairly priced. The restaurant was a little quiet at the start of our early lunch, but was lively and running smoothly by the end of the meal. The waiter and waitress were really lovely.

This restaurant was a good find never having been there before. It is small but cosy. The service was excellent. My wife is allergic to shellfish and the staff knew exactly what was in each dish, and even offered to make her something specially. The courses were nicely balanced, and the pudding menu was a menu to die for! I would recommend this restaurant for a romantic meal out.

Reunion with old friends from Brussels since we last met at La Garrigue two years ago.Great ambiance and no sign of dampened Scots and French spirits after earlier rugby results:the Irish were in good form!
Service was to La Garrigue’s usual high standard and very welcoming.Great food and wine list.
Well done Jean Michel and colleagues!

A very family run restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh that always offers a friendly welcome. Booking was very easy, staff are very couteous and helpful and atmosphere is always vibrant but not too loud.

My husband and I have eaten here three times now and never been disappointed. The last time was at the beginning of February 2019 with a couple of friends who had joined us for the rugby. They are regular diners in France as they have a second home there, and were very impressed with the overall experience.

As ever the food was delightful. Will certainly return

Fabulous pre-theatre menu with excellent service and great location close to Waverley Train station.
The regional Tour de France main course menu changes daily and we really enjoyed Le pot au feu de Canard. Also recommend the Lavender crème brûlée.

Very nice meal for my father in law's birthday. Warm welcome and very friendly and efficient staff. The Burns themed amuse bouche was a nice touch as it was Burns Night. Good choice on a well priced menu with a simar wine list. This is a genuine French restaurant in the heart if Edinburgh, a little gem and well worth a visit.

We received a warm welcome from Le Patron, Jean Michele and the staff. The set lunch menu provided a good choice and the special dish for each day of the week from different regions of France is an interesting concept. My husband particularly enjoyed the stuffed cabbage from the Auvergne. The wine list is quite extensive and good value. We will return soon. A bientot!

This authentic French restaurant has a great value lunch menu serving lovely food and provides excellent service. The dishes on the day may differ from the online menu, as was the case when we visited. However, the quality of the food does not vary.
