Since its opening in 2001, La Garrigue has earned plenty of critical commendations. It is a fitting venue for an intimate lunch or dinner experience as well as for small group events.
The wine list is extensive and is suitably representative of Languedoc, the largest of France's wine producing regions.

Lovely and truly French cuisine with a worthy wine list to match. Nice ambience too.
An excellent French restaurant with emphasis on South of France wines and dishes. I will certainly return.
We were met with a very warm welcome from both Morgan and Jean Michel despite it being a year since we were last here.
The menu was well balanced and the meal we had was delicious . The wine was great quality and value and , as always, one that you don’t get in other restaurants . The place was busy and buzzing and all the staff were very friendly, knowledgable and welcoming.
We mustn’t leave it as long till we return.
Beautifully judged, straightforward, characterful food. Excellent service. Quiet and relaxed when we were there.
Nice ambience, traditional French. Good wine selection and a menu that is fix prix for 2 courses or a la carte. Great service and off the tourist streets . Will definitely return. No service charge so tip as you feel.
We enjoyed the dinner with my family. Great location. Nice ambience and very well served. Some dishes were superb. Cauliflower soup. Hallibout. And the magnificent desserts. Thanks Jean Michele.
Fantastic lunch, best cassoulet since I was last in Carcassonne, in fact better! I’ll try dinner next time I’m in Edinburgh.
Just terrific from start to finish but the tarte tatin was probably the best example of that dish I have ever tasted. My wife is vegan and she also thought her meal was exceptional.
The service was very friendly and efficient, as always. Overall a restaurant we always enjoy dining in. The rabbit, however, was somewhat dry and the lavender crême brulée wasn't very lavender-y. But all plates were empty when collected!
Really enjoyed thd excellent French food and the friendly service-sorry we missed Jean Michel-will maybe see him in Carnegie pool next time we are in Fife.
Thanks to all.
We had eaten at La Garrigue many times before our most recent visit. We had family visiting from Yorkshire and as we were spending the day in Edinburgh we wanted them to share in La Garrigue experience. They loved it. The pre theatre menu is very good value without sacrificing quality and the inclusion of Tour de France specials is great. It was also good to have wines from Languedoc, which brought memories of a holiday we all had together on the Canal du Midi. We will be back to La Garrigue again!
Always love La Garrigue. Friendly faces, fantastic French food and wine.
This was a really mixed experience for us. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly, shown to our table, given our food and wine menus and told about the specials. We were asked about water preferences and quickly had water delivered. Everything was going swimmingly. Then our actual server arrived. We had been seated for about 60 seconds when he asked what cocktail we wanted. We explained that we had just been seated and would like a minute to sort that out. He returned promptly; just enough time for us to decide what drinks we'd like while we perused the menu. This time after taking our drink order, he looked incredulously at us and asked about our food selection. We had discussed a starter, so we ordered that, but our waiter hovered and repeated his request that we select a main dish at that time.
I appreciate attentive service, but this was just pushy and rushed.
Things got better after that. The bread was delicious, as was the amuse bouche. The breaded duck egg starter was done very well, but needed a bit of salt. The wine list, while focused entirely on the Languedoc, provided some real winners.
The mains, however, were both underwhelming (I had the cassoulet, my wife had the Turbot). We can appreciate subtle, but both felt our dishes were under-seasoned.
The service however, had now gone from rushed to disinterested, as we hardly saw our server again for the remainder of the meal. The support staff were very polite and efficient in delivering and clearing plates, but we were not asked how the meal was going, we needed to flag someone down to order another glass of wine, we needed to flag someone down again to retrieve the bill. The inconsistency of the service was really off-putting for us, especially with some of the other excellent experiences we had in Edinburgh.
There's a lot to like here, but it was not something we would repeat, unfortunately.
We enjoyed a very pleasant lunch on a hot summers day. The lunch menu is good value but with a predictably limited choice. The olive cake starter was quite dull, but the fish soup went down well. The fish of the day and Osso Bucco were tasty, with sensibly sized portions. The chocolate bavarois was disappointing. Our table for four was quite cramped, but some other tables had a lot more room, so ask for one which is not in a corridor. There is a delicious champagne style wine for which you need to enquire.
A special place to enjoy fantastic food and great service. A highlight of my family’s trip to Edinburgh.
La Garrigue was perfect for lunch. We had a view over Calton Hill from our table and ate a la carte because the menu was so tempting. Everything was cooked and presented beautifully and the food is genuinely good provincial French cooking with inspired touches. The restaurant itself is delightful with paintings of the owner's home area in the Midi. Tables are set nicely apart and music is discreetly in the background. Service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
Excellent attention and explanation of the options available.
I try never to go to Edinburgh without a meal at La Garrigue. The food is creative without being pretentious, the art on the walls is always fun, the service is personal and the prices are very fair for anything from a simple meal to a special occasion.
As usual food was exquisite, scallops, roquefort souffle and guinea fowl. It is always a splendid evening, warm, intimate and friendly and you are very much put at your ease. Will be going again soon!!
I enjoyed a fantastic meal last night! I had 3 appetizers rather than an entree. The Roquefort soufflé was sublime - light and airy yet flavorful. The scallops were delicious. Great wine selection and helpful staff.
Most enjoyable. Food exelaunt, friendly service, with a very French feel to everything.
Our restaurant of choice when we want to give friends and visitors a treat. Ambience, service and of course the food and wine all first class. Never been disappointed.
Fabulous food and wines. We went for a special meal as it was my husband's 50th birthday. Wine is a tad expensive but as it was a special occasion it was well worth the money. Excellent choice for us by the owner. Food cooked to perfection. Staff very attentive but not in your face all the time. Lovely ambience and art work on the walls were beautiful.
We have eaten here before and chose it for our 38th Wedding Anniversary meal. It was a different menu and my husband struggled to pick something but settled for the lamb which he said was cooked very well but wouldn't have been his first choice. My tuna steak was very nice but had a strong bitter garlic flavour. The tarte tatin was amazing though and starters were very good as was the wine. Service was excellent as usual. We will definitely be back but may check the menu beforehand.
All as we expected
Many thanks for your review. We are glad that you've enjoyed it and look forward to welcoming you again. Regards, Morgan
Excellent food wonderful echoes of south west France
Dear Douglas, Thank you for taking the time to review us. We are very happy that you fell like being in the South West of France. Looking forward to seeing again soon. Regards, Morgan
Excellent lunch with old friends. Never fails to impress. Looking forward to the next time.
Dear Ron, Many thanks for once again choosing La Garrigue and your kind words. We are also looking forward to impress you again. Regards, Morgan
Typical french cuisine, very nice to find this place in Scotland...
Dear Sylvain, Thank you for coming at La Garrigue and your review. Looking forward to welcoming you again, Cordialement, Morgan
Food was outstanding from beginning to end.
Service was prompt and friendly too.
Disappointed and nothing special
Every dish was so ordinary. There were nothing special and I couldn’t say yummy to describe any of the dishes we ordered.
Dear Ms Wong, I'm sorry to see that nothing wowed you during your last visit to La Garrigue. I would be more than happy to discussed it with you personally, you can call on 01315573032 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I sincerely hope that you will give us another chance to say yummy. regards, Morgan
Very wonderful experience. Such a nice break from eating Scottish food for days. Had the casoulette. The meat was so tender. Just perfect.
My husband and I had been for dinner which was really lovely so decided to come back for lunch with friends. Unfortunately we felt the food wasn’t. Ear as good as we’d had previously.
Friendly welcome & nice choice of food. The amuse bouche was really tasty but I found the roquefort soufflé tasted very mildly of roquefort cheese, and although I enjoyed the halibut & saffron rice together, I found both courses sadly lacking in flavour.
Excellent food - wonderful service. Very authentic French cuisine
Third time in Edinburgh, 2nd time at La Garrige. Next time definetly again!
Compliments et à la prochaîne!
Lovely atmosphere, calm quiet restaurant where you can have a conversation with your company. Great food and friendly service. Will return
Having never been before, I was keen to go to La Garrigue to meet a couple of friends for dinner and we had a lovely relaxed evening. Service was great - thanks for your infinite patience as we were too busy talking to look at the menu. Delicious food - extremely tasty and different from the norm, albeit relatively expensive for what we ate. Beautifully cooked halibut followed by lavender creme brûlée - yum yum yum!!!
As usual warm greeting at door and couthy talk while settling in at table. Lunch menu varied offering choice and as we had booked during vegetarian week additional choices were a bonus. I opted for the vegetarian starter and main course which were excellent and beautifullu complimeneted by the house rose. My strawbwerry crepe dessert with lemon curd ice cream was an excellent finish to the meal.
The staff, all French, were attentive and professional with a very friendly manner. Jean Michel was his usual self making time to talk with all his guests in his characteristically warm manner/ An altogether enjoyable experience.
Very nice authentic french food, with some unusual elements, eg kidneys. Really liked it.
