Since its opening in 2001, La Garrigue has earned plenty of critical commendations. It is a fitting venue for an intimate lunch or dinner experience as well as for small group events.
The wine list is extensive and is suitably representative of Languedoc, the largest of France's wine producing regions.

Excellent food served up in a friendly ambiance, in spite of COVID restrictions.
Great meal and service, with good non-alcoholic beverage options. The squid sausage and the Monkfish Wellington were both excellent. Very much missed having a glass of good Languedoc wine, though! The ambience was not at the top rating because it was very quiet on a Wednesday for a late lunch - I just don’t know how many of the excellent restaurants we have are going to survive this pandemic.
A lovely cosy and friendly restaurant with authentic French food of the Languedoc region. We have been here many times and have always been delighted with all aspects, especially the food. The plaice was delicious and cooked to perfection. The cassoulet was amazing and hearty as always. My favourite starter is the roquefort souffle, and the lavender creme brulee is a lovely dessert, so I was delighted to see them back on the menu.
Still producing a very good 3 course lunch. Looking forward to having a glass of wine with it!
Always enjoy La Garrigue. Meal and service as good as ever. “Wine” was very pleasant. Looking forward to going back and having a bottle of the real stuff. Always feel very welcome here.
Delicious food and impeccable service. Social distancing well thought out. Absolutely excellent. Never let’s us down.
Delicious food and great service. We very much enjoyed our meal
Lovely late lunch before Shut down mark2. Felt so bad for the team here after all the care taken to serve us safely. We will return as soon we can.
As always we enjoyed our lunch and the overall experience was very good. The beans in the cassoulet were a bit under cooked but everything else was perfect.
Genuinely French cuisine. Attentive service and fabulous views towards Calton Hill. Perfect for lunch or dinner.
Friendly, efficient safe service. Excellent food and an extensive wine list in pleasant surroundings.
Another great meal just before the latest lockdown and already looking forward to our next visit.
Everything we had to eat and drink was very good. Nothing we had chosen at La Garrigue before. Must go back soon.
Feel very covid secure here. The restaurant is spotlessly clean throughout with clear measures in place that don't impact on the dining experience. Staff very friendly and efficient. Good choice of food and drinks. Always a winner with me.
In the circumstances the staff managed very well to be friendly and welcoming. The food was very good and the Patron chose our wine which was also very good. We'll come again hopefully in better times. It was good to see Tim Stead chairs.
Really enjoyed our visit here, we were made to feel welcome, safe and comfortable . The service was first class and the quality of the food was excellent we will definitely plan to come back here next time we are in Edinburgh.
An excellent French Bistrot - the menu has enough choice and the food is classic - terrine de pintadeau and cassoulet were both excellent, and the creme brulée had a perfect flavour with crispy top blow-torched to perfection. Service was efficient friendly and very french (in a good way). Prices very reasonable for a good restaurant in central Edinburgh. Covid precautions were well done and felt safe.
Food is good and reasonably priced. Lovely surroundings. Staff are excellent. Very good wines.
Cannot fault anything about the restaurant.
We had a most enjoyable lunch. The Monk Fish en Croute was delicious. Service was professional and we had time enjoy the experiance. We were very impressed by the setup to deal with the pandemic. We felt very secure. We will be back.
Lovely place that did its best to handle covid restrictions that left it a little down on atmosphere. The good was excellent and service equally good. A little music might have helped mask the noise of an aircon unit but overall we were very happy with our visit and will go back when we return to the city
Good French local food
Nice viewing.........................
Absolutely amazing food. I did not get my usual -' i could have made that at home' feeling i get often .I could not have made any of this at home! Every dish ( we had the tasting menu) was beautiful and delicious. The staff were lovely. Very quiet and authentic.
Food was superb and the atmosphere in restaurant was good. The distancing etc was well done Service was also good
Good value, excellent choice of menu and wine. Most pleasant lunch
Beautiful food with fantastic service, will definitely return.
I’ve passed this little gem literally hundreds of times on my way to and from work. We decided to try it as somewhere new to us but also familiar!!! We were not disappointed. What an absolute delight from start to finish. Completely Covid - compliant including Perspex screens but which in no way detracted from our time there. The food was divine, we tried new wines and the staff were just the right balance of knowledgeable, attentive and humorous. So good we’re going again this week❤️
Very special have already recommended it to a friend
loveley atmosphere, very welcoming, great food , attentive service, Whay more could you ask
Great food and great service. Best meal we’ve had in a while. Highly recommend.
Gorgeous food and lovely people
We had a wonderful evening. The restaurant was of course set up to minimise contact, but we had an excellent time. The service was cheerful but respectful, the patron a delight, the food not the somewhat rustic fare which perhaps might have been expected, but more in the class of fine dining.
Not cheap food but worth every penny. All 3 courses were full of flavour and sensible portions that allow you room to savour all 3. Lovely balance. Service was impeccable and owner and serving staff were friendly. Despite all the (impressive) provisions for COVID they have managed to maintain a warm and cosy ambience. Look forward to returning soon.
We are regulars - or at least treated as if we are, such is the warmth of the welcome. We came this time as partridge was on the menu (delicate and delicious) as well as the wonderful, real traditional French cassoulet. An unexpected delight was the mushroom pate from freshly foraged fungi. A new wine from Mas de Gassac rounded off the pleasure (as well as the friendly superb service).
Everything perfect as usual! Thank you.
Very nice french cuisine with good selection of wine. Recommended
Friendly staffs and high standard meal.
We have been sustained through lockdown by emails and dreams of deliciousness, it was such a treat to finally experience the real thing again. It may be 400 miles from home but worth it!
fabulous food and service as always. will be rebooking soon.
Lovely lunch, great service. Very nice wine list. All round great experience.
This was my first visit to La Garrigue and will definitely be back at some point soon. Service and food were excellent. Also, staff made you feel very welcome and felt totally at ease if you were nervous about eating out in the current situation. I particularly liked the screens between each table. Myself and my friend felt very safe and we had a great dining experience. I would have no hesitation in highly recommending La Garrigue to any of my friends.
Booked at the last minute with no idea what this restaurant was like. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made in a while.
Wonderful food from the 5 course tasting menu.
Great service and we all felt safe and secure with the Covid measures in place.
