Since its opening in 2001, La Garrigue has earned plenty of critical commendations. It is a fitting venue for an intimate lunch or dinner experience as well as for small group events.
The wine list is extensive and is suitably representative of Languedoc, the largest of France's wine producing regions.
- Surfaces sanitised between seatings
- Clean menu provided to every guest
- Sanitiser or wipes provided for customers
- Contactless payment available
- Limited number of seated diners

Over the years, as members of the Var International Aperitif Club (VIAC) & the Gourmet Club, we have had the good fortune to regularly dine at many of the best restaurants Provence has to offer.
We consider La Garrigue’s unpretentious atmosphere, friendly and attentive service, and delicious, Languedoc’ cuisine to exhibit a degree of excellence and authenticity that unreservedly places them in our ‘best of’ category... right here in Edinburgh. The Auld Alliance, lives on!
It was great to be back dining at La Garrigue - a long-time favourite restaurant of mine. The food and service are still as good as ever and the Covid screens aren't too intrusive - you get used to them.
Great atmosphere, even though they were quite busy, it didn't feel chaotic or rushed. With everything being hard surfaces the noise was still nicely balanced. Food was excellent I just expected the dessert to be sweeter than it was and had a slightly odd texture but everything was great!!!! Would definitely go back.
We always eat well at La Garrigue. All the staff are very welcoming and knowledgable about the menu and wines. The creme brulee is THE best!
A fantastic meal in a wonderful setting. The service, food and wine was outstanding!
Fantastic meal, staff were helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
Quaint and good atmosphere for the location
A very pleasant meal in lovely surroundings. Thank you
Excellent new menu very good value for money great wine and service
Lovely beef fillet, perfectly cooked thanks to advice from waiter!
Happy experience at La Garrigue. delicious really friendly service - plenty of room - no need to worry about distancing
It was a lovely feeling to be back in a restaurant after lockdown, we were made very welcome at lunch time it must be difficult for restaurants to keep open with so few people, we really appreciate the service and quality of food in these difficult times, keep up the good work
Very nice restaurant; very good food with attentive service. A lovely spot.
Warm welcome; careful management of customers' health and safety re: Covid-19; excellent food!
The food was good, but not great. My main course, a bouillabaisse, was the size of a starter, and a real disappointment. The staff was friendly enough, but not really present. Don’t think we’ll come back, which is a shame because I used to love this restaurant.
Charming french restaurant. The food is exquisite, genuinely top restaurant quality cooking. The ambiance is lacking at the moment due to the Covid measures but at least they are open and cooking.
A favourite restaurant over many years. Very pleased it has survived and will continue its high standards.
We've just been in for lunch; we were early arriving and our very own Gipsy King, Jean-Michel, was waiting for us in the street. As ever, attentive, interesting and amusing - and so, so French. We had the olive clafouti, the cassoulet, the lavender crème brulee, the chicken Basquais and the ham hock terrine. This was all lubricated by the house aperitif and a bottle of Le Mas D’Alezon Presbytere 2015. Coffee and petit fours closed the deal. Morgan popped up to say hello. This is La Garrigue as we remember it, quality and camaraderie, (obviously plus some unobtrusive screens and slightly more distance). No hugs or hand shakes but a fabulous time. Even the taxi driver on the way home said it was one of the best restaurants in the City. We agreed - we'll be back soon. Thanks to the whole crew!
enjoyed our meal.service was good.had monkfish en courte.was lovely and was a bit different from beef .
They coped magnificently with Covid restrictions....barriers between tables weren't intrusive....Staff wore visors.... everything thoroughly cleaned.
Great value and we would go back.
My Wife and myself visit Edinburgh several times a year, the 1st thing I do after booking accommodation is reserve a table at La Garrigue, and it never fails to impress, Classy restaurant, wonderful traditional French food at affordable prices.
This was our second visit to La Garrigue, and although the presence of the Covid-19 measures was a bit annoying, I understand why it is necessary. It certainly didn't prevent the food, the wine and the service from being excellent, and definitely well worth the visit.
They've done a great job responding to Covid, felt but safe and welcome at the same time throughout the meal!
Great to eat out on the first opening after lockdown. Good effort in distancing tables, screens, infection control, etc. Main course of duck cassoulet was rather dry and overcooked unfortunately. Wine was fine, though not quite as good as other occasions. Desserts (lemon tart) were bit too creamy, and sorbet iced. But, great evening after COVID lockdown!
We had lunch. The meal was most enjoyable and the service very good.
Excellent, as usual . They had Covid proofed the restaurant sympathetically and we felt safe .
Good food and good service. Delicious wine although quite expensive.
A pleasant dining experience with well prepared cuisine. Ambiance relaxed and atmospheric, Menu du patron allows dining for an acceptable outlay. Wines overpriced. Service friendly but variable levels of training. Shall return.
We had a lovely lunch on Sunday with great food and wine served by lovely people. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone it is excellent!
in terms of the balance between quality of food, wine list, atmosphere and service - unbeatable by anywhere else in Edinburgh
Excellent - as always .............................
Really good french food with an a la carte and great value Lunch/pre theatre set menu to choose from. Extensive french wine list. Really good service and the restaurant itself is always clean and fresh looking
Lovely French onion soup and Venison main course. Friendly service. Tasty food and great value.
Amazing experience. Delicious food, great service.
Very good French cooking and excellent staff waiting on tables - friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Wine list interesting with a good range of prices. Very good dealing with a c¨stomer requiring gluten free food.
Fantastic evening as ever. Thanks for the onion soup!
We enjoyed a wonderful three course dinner on the le menu de patron which was fantastic value. The food was great and reminded us of happy holidays spent in France, the service was attentive and the wine list had a great variety. The views over Carlton hill were lovely too. We will definitely visit again
The room was a little chilly. Staff were inattentive at times but otherwise very professional.
Size of portion very small for the price eg 2 very small scallops for almost £10.
Main courses were uninspiring and bland eg cassoulet almost lacking in any flavour. Sea bream consisted of 2 small fillets placed on a few placed spreadings of fancy purées. Lacking flavour also.
We had been given a voucher for Christmas and love french cooking. We were very disappointed to say the least.
When we eat out we always leave a minimum of 10%. This amount was automatically added to the bill. We paid the bill and left feeling somewhat deflated.
We will not be making a return visit. There are other french restaurants in Edinburgh which are much better all round.
Outstanding regional French cuisine served by charming, friendly French wait staff. I had cassoulet, my son lamb and his girlfriend an excellent duck. We were all delighted and then dessert even better. Very good wine list from the Laungedoc. Couldn’t be more pleased.
Great atmosphere and food as ever. Great wine list which allows one to explore South West France with confidence. I love La Garrigue.
