Since its opening in 2001, La Garrigue has earned plenty of critical commendations. It is a fitting venue for an intimate lunch or dinner experience as well as for small group events.
The wine list is extensive and is suitably representative of Languedoc, the largest of France's wine producing regions.

5 course tasting menu & glass of bubbly £29.50
Booked at the last minute with no idea what this restaurant was like. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made in a while.
Wonderful food from the 5 course tasting menu.
Great service and we all felt safe and secure with the Covid measures in place.
As always, great value and great service. The menu was wide ranging. Staff were very pleasant and knew their stuff when it came to both food and wines. You won't be disappointed.
Ok toddler in high chair next to us at 9pm at night Not what we expected.
Excellent as always. Friendly, welcoming. Great service, fantastic food.
Excellent food, wonderful service, great value for money
This is our second time eating there , we specifically re booked for our return trip to Edinburgh. It really is a gem , independent, not a chain so you get a smaller menu but all freshly cooked seasonal veg and home made puddings , delicious!
Fab food, lovely friendly atmosphere we will return
Great service, very friendly and helpful. Lovely food although portion size not huge, but good value for 3 courses.
It was great to finally return to one of our favourite restaurants. The food and service were as good as always. We reckon it is very good value for lunch, given the quality of the cuisine and the wine.
Excellent food. Well served in a pleasant safe environment
Great food, great ambience and first class service.
This is a lovely restaurant with great food and a ice relaxed atmosphere. Generally the food is good value but £8.50 for a small handful of mushrooms in white sauce is a bit steep. That's my only gripe.
This is a first class restaurant, I recommend it with complete confidence. I had an excellent cassoulet, fellow diners had leg of rabbit. We were all impressed.
This was my first visit since lockdown restrictions were eased. I am a long-standing customer who has loved the food, drink and ambience for years. I took a friend who had never been before and she loved it. The quality of the food and drink were as good as ever and the staff were professional and attentive. Morgan and Jean Michel preside over a gem of a restaurant and they deserve every success in the future. As a recommendation I have booked to go back again on 22 September.
Amazing food, great service - highly recommended
As a regular customer, but one who hadn’t been to the restaurant since Covid restrictions came into force, I was a little concerned that the experience might not be as excellent as usual. I needn’t have worried, however, and my friend and I had a really lovely lunch.
The menu, although slightly more restricted than before, still offered a good range of choices for all courses, and the food was absolutely delicious, as always.
The service was particularly good, and our waiter was warm and welcoming.
The measures in place for enhanced Covid 19 hygiene are well-judged and unobtrusive. There is hand sanitiser just outside the entrance for customers to use before they touch the door handle, and some tables have been removed to allow greater spacing between diners. There are also Perspex screens between tables - so clean it looks as if there’s nothing there!
When we arrived, there was only one other table occupied, and the restaurant was very quiet. The ambience at that point was slightly “doctor’s waiting room”, but this improved when more guests arrived.
All in all, this was a very positive experience, and I would highly recommend having a meal here.
An excellent menu of well-considered food and wine presented by charming, knowledgeable serving staff. It would be hard to fault it.
Excellent value as always! Great menu options. Friendly and helpful staff.
Excellent food, brilliant wine and magnificent service - and all at a very reasonable price. Edinburgh is an expensive city but La Garrigue is great value; the staff are very welcoming and attentive and they helped ensure we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We would definitely recommend and we will definitely be back.
Very enjoyable and relaxed evening. Authentic French dishes and a superb selection of Languedoc wines and other tipples by the glass or bottle.
It lives up to its reputation as good home made French Cuisine, everything wonderfully fresh and original. service impeccable, all courses delicious
All safety measures including screens between tables are in place. Service was very good. Bread and water brought to table. Cassoulet was delicious, with a lovely Malbec to wash it down. Would return.
I thought this was a near perfect restaurant experience. Friendly, welcoming and knowledgable wait staff. The owner himself was on duty too, making sure that everything was running smoothly and providing wine recommendations. The food was absolutely superb with hand picked mushrooms in a delicate, creamy fricassee followed by a delicious, earthy and heart warming cassoulet. Couldn’t recommend it more.
Great first meal out in 5 months, good service, excellent food and well set up for the current situation.
delightful from start to finish! lovely staff and delicious food.
Amazing food and atmosphere! Would 100% recommend to anyone going to Edinburgh to go here for food!
Great to be back everything we ate was delicious..
Lovely tasty food well presented. Staff very friendly.
Amazing food, ambience to the restaurant and service.
This place just gets better on each visit. This was our first post lockdown visit to eat out. Amazingly tasty food, good drinks, fantastic service and good atmosphere despite the restrictions in place. These were done very well and had been thoughtfully planned to least impact the ambience of the restaurant. Well done La Garrique.
Excellent value for money set menu. Good service and calm, chatty atmosphere
Been going to La Garrigue for several years and I’d say it never disappoints. The proprietors are usually on site and they provide an authentic French (Languedoc) cuisine, with an excellent wine list. Very Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Never unduly noisy. Nothing not to like.
Given a table at back of restaurant despite some free at front. Dull at the back and do much poorer ambience. In contrast, food was superb
Beautifully presented food that was delicious and fresh.
Great food and excellent service. COVID precautions in place.
Generally, mediochre, food tired and bland although servive polite and efficientt
Disappointing experience.Starters fish soup ok but just like any you can buy in a jar. Soufflé nice. Main courses were poor. Saddle of lamb overcooked. Dauphinoise tired looking, overcooked and bland. Squid was incidental in a dish dominated by pork stuffing. Shared dessert strawberry custard tart. Soggy pastry, bland topping. Didnt finish even though shared. Service was good enough but functional rather than warm and welcoming. Service charge already added to the bill when it came.
Lovely meal and wine. The waiter was very attentive.
A excellent night out with good food and wine in an informal atmosphere. This was our first meal out in the new normal. We'll definitely repeat the experience.
As always, excellent lunch. Great bistro food in classic French style
