Since its opening in 2001, La Garrigue has earned plenty of critical commendations. It is a fitting venue for an intimate lunch or dinner experience as well as for small group events.
The wine list is extensive and is suitably representative of Languedoc, the largest of France's wine producing regions.

I though the food was just average. I saw lots of positive reviews and was surprised at the high rankings. It was why we chose to eat here. The food was rather bland and the service was rather inconsistent. Not sure I'd go back ...
The meal was superb and the staff could not have better
Excellent, great food, friendly service, would definitely return - always a warm welcome
Good French food in the center of Edinburgh. The cooking is very homey--basics like Cassoulet, Foie Gras, etc. done well, as you might expect at a high-quality family meal. Excellent and attentive service. Decent wine list. Better value for the money can be found nearby.
Exquisite food. Our 4th time here and we always make a point of booking when we visit Edinburgh. Never disappointed - absolutely superb - very high standard and thoroughly enjoyable.
We had a lovely meal with excellent service. The only minor problem was a table of 4 who were talking politics in very loud voices.
Excellent fantastic service and the food was spectacular
Friendly service, good food, and central location in beautiful EDinbugh.
La Garrigue as always is a hidden gem that does traditional French cuisine very well. Even the wine list caters for all taste and expenditures !!!
Food usually very reliable and good choice. Some unusual dishes.
Really excellent. Unpretentious, but extremely tasty and authentic French food. Good value, too. I’ll definitely go back next time I’m in Edinburgh
Great little restaurant. Delicious food. Friendly wait staff. There would even be a good view if not for some local construction.
Had a fantastic lunch for my sisters birthday, food, wine, service and ambience could not be faulted.
Fantastic food (really good understanding of gluten intolerance) and wine. Great service. Good location. This was my second visit and it is my restaurant of choice in Edinburgh
Excellent place to dine, have fun with friends, great wine well priced
The best just keeps getting better
Food was fantastic. Atmosphere is lovely. Service just right. Everyone agreed a great evening.
What a treat. From the moment that I walked in, until the moment I left, I was surrounded by excellent service and phenomenal food.
Have never been disappointed here with either food or service.
Authentic French food well prepared and well served.
We had a really good dining experience! The food was delicious and excellent table service.
Delicious food, friendly efficient staff and lovely surrounding. Great experience at La Garrigue!
Very convenient central restaurant for both Old and New Town. The food was excellent and staff very friendly, however the service was slow. From other reviews we were looking forward to having at least a main course and dessert pre show;however it took 50 minutes for the main course to arrive. If you have time to wait I am sure you would have a great meal. The tables and chairs are beautifully crafted and tables at the front of the restaurant are an ideal spot to people watch. Only downside in layout is that the loos are not really disabled friendly.
Was keen to find this restaurant, having been here once before (from Australia!) 3 years ago. Glad to say the search was worth it! Roquefort soufflé simply outstanding!
We have been to La Garrigue many times and the standard never falters with consistently great food and friendly service.
Had a delicious meal at La Garrique. The service was prompt and the food of high quality with attentive service.
Two of us had the fish of the day, Pan roasted Hake with seafood and lobster bisque and mother had the cassoulet. Both were fantastic. Can highly recommend for a decent meal out on Edinburgh
La Garrigue never fails to live up to our expectations! Excellent food and wine, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, with a brilliant atmosphere in a great location.
The service was really poor. We waited 45 mins for food and had to ask for our bottle of wine as they had completely forgotten about it. At the time the restaurant was not busy so there was no excuse for poor service.
Lovely meal in this little bit of France in Edinburgh. Friendly, intimate restaurant with a well crafted menu, excellent and well researched wine list.
Pre theatre menu for the Festival excellent value for money and good food
Had the Prix Fixe festival special and unbeatable value and food we chose was fresh and delightful. I think a lot of people are put off by coley as a main ingredient but freshness and skill in the kitchen should overcome this if you are prepared to trust these and Garrigue is skilful and consistent. Anyway it was beautifully set off by the summer veg rice combo. Pichets of wine are also a big lunchtime plus. Could be doing lunch anywhere in France at a favourite friendly efficient place where you can rely on good food and great value.
Fantastic from start to finish. Every course was delicious, lovely atmosphere and attentive professional service.
As always, my visit to La Garrigue on Tuesday was extremely enjoyable. I’ve been coming to the restaurant for many years now, usually having lunch there every couple of months, and always bringing visiting friends when they’re in the city. The quality of food is always very high, and little touches such as being automatically served artisan bread and fresh butter makes the dining experience authentic and thoughtfully conceived.
My friend and I both began our Festival Menu meal with the starter of warm cherry tomato clafoutis with goat’s cheese and basil, which came beautifully dressed with frisée lettuce. The dish was perfectly balanced and so light and delicious.
We then both had chicken Basquaise with peppers and olive oil mash. This dish was full of fresh, intense flavours - just right both to comfort and cheer us up on a rather dreich August day.
My friend skipped dessert, but I couldn’t resist the stone fruits frangipane tart with fresh mint Anglaise. I was a touch sceptical about the mint, as this can sometimes be a bit overpowering and make you feel as if there’s toothpaste on your plate, but I needn’t have worried. The mint flavour was very delicate and refreshing and the whole dish was again quite delicious.
With patron Jean Michel’s great wine expertise, we knew we couldn’t go wrong with even the most humble of the choices on the wine list, and the pichet of Domaine de Bertier Sauvignon/Viognier did not disappoint, complementing all dishes perfectly.
In summary, this was a lovely lunch, and was a highlight in a day of several Festival treats.
Authentic food and atmosphere and wonderful wines. We go every year when in Edinburgh for the festival
excellent food wine and service will definitely be going back
Lovely place, went for a treat, and the food was delicious. Service friendly and just enough attention. Would recommend. No push with wine list, but lots of knowledge.
we were a group of 6 and were seated in a nice private area with just one table so it felt a little like a private dining experience. The food was good french fare. Great service, will definitely return when next in Edinburgh.
We had a fabulous evening at La Garrigue - great company, great food and great service. Couldn't ask for more!
My friend and I visited La Garrique during the Edinburgh Fringe and enjoyed their Fringe 2/3 course special. One of us is coeliac and still managed to have a delicious piece of 'fish of the day' from this menu and a lovely lavender creme brulee (even the gluten-free bread provided was unusually delicious). Overall a very pleasant evening with excellent food and staff.
Yes I would hope to visit when I come to Edinburgh on my next visit.
