Since its opening in 2001, La Garrigue has earned plenty of critical commendations. It is a fitting venue for an intimate lunch or dinner experience as well as for small group events.
The wine list is extensive and is suitably representative of Languedoc, the largest of France's wine producing regions.

Amazing service and excellent food! Cannot wait to return.
Delicious French cuisine, with a friendly service. One of the best in Edinburgh.
Very good as usual. Good also to be back and able to support La garrigue again
As usual on our annual visit to Edinburgh ate lunch at La Garrigue and weren’t disappointed. Excellent soup and beef cheek to follow done perfectly. Sensible menu, not too many items listed, suggesting the Chef can give all dishes his full attention.
Slight grumble, extra charges for vegetables and bread, OK may be standard practice in restaurants but a bit odd consideering that th emain meals , though excellent, are not cheap.
Still a great place to visit and will return in due course.
Absolutely superb food and a great welcome. They did the best they could to create ambience while observing Covid restrictions. Looking forward to having wines with our next meal there.
We dined at La Garrigue on the second day after it opened after the extended lockdown ending in May 2021. The food was excellent and they were very careful with social distancing. My wife had a cheese souffle starter and tuna main course cooked to perfection. I had an excellent fish soup starter and hake for the main course. We will certainly come back.
The scene was set when two large bottles of water arrived at the table at a cost of £4.50 each.
The Cassoulet was dry and the beans hard, very poor for a price tag of £19.50.
The courgette cake and fondant potato was served with a tomato dressing and around 4/5 wilted spinach leaves. The portion was extremely small and eaten in a few minutes.
The lavender creme brulee was nice although the French cheese selection was ok but expensive at £8.50.
A 10% service charge was added to our bill before it was brought to our table, only then were we told about this and asked if it was ok! This is an embarrassing position to be put in, we prefer to tip if its warranted and we did not think it was on this occasion however, felt forced to accept the situation.
We have eaten in restaurants in various areas in France and the food on this occasion was not authentic or good quality at all.
Overall the experience was mediocre at best, we will not return. The restaurant failed to live up to their own hype. Not good value for money.
Our first time together in a restaurant since early 2020. We love La Garrigue and it didn’t disappoint. The food is fresh and tasty and beautifully prepared. The service is friendly personal and relaxed. The layout of the restaurant allows it to be safe. Perfect just perfect! Thanks so much.
Wonderful food, in a relaxing atmosphere. Service is excellent and although wine cannot be served at present (due to covid)..the accompaniments although non alcohol are well considered and delicious
Great food and service as always from the team. So glad to see this wonderful restaurant open again.
We had a toddler and a baby with us and the space we had was so accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious and service was excellent.
Lovely food , good price for fixed three courses , definitely going back .
Lovely to be back , all that was missing was a glass or 2 of wine. Next Time.
We always enjoy eating at La Garrigue and we will be back. The staff are always welcoming and cannot do enough for you.
Excellent light lunch with all Covid19 precautions taken.
Excellent food served up in a friendly ambiance, in spite of COVID restrictions.
Great meal and service, with good non-alcoholic beverage options. The squid sausage and the Monkfish Wellington were both excellent. Very much missed having a glass of good Languedoc wine, though! The ambience was not at the top rating because it was very quiet on a Wednesday for a late lunch - I just don’t know how many of the excellent restaurants we have are going to survive this pandemic.
A lovely cosy and friendly restaurant with authentic French food of the Languedoc region. We have been here many times and have always been delighted with all aspects, especially the food. The plaice was delicious and cooked to perfection. The cassoulet was amazing and hearty as always. My favourite starter is the roquefort souffle, and the lavender creme brulee is a lovely dessert, so I was delighted to see them back on the menu.
Still producing a very good 3 course lunch. Looking forward to having a glass of wine with it!
Always enjoy La Garrigue. Meal and service as good as ever. “Wine” was very pleasant. Looking forward to going back and having a bottle of the real stuff. Always feel very welcome here.
Delicious food and impeccable service. Social distancing well thought out. Absolutely excellent. Never let’s us down.
Delicious food and great service. We very much enjoyed our meal
Lovely late lunch before Shut down mark2. Felt so bad for the team here after all the care taken to serve us safely. We will return as soon we can.
As always we enjoyed our lunch and the overall experience was very good. The beans in the cassoulet were a bit under cooked but everything else was perfect.
Genuinely French cuisine. Attentive service and fabulous views towards Calton Hill. Perfect for lunch or dinner.
Friendly, efficient safe service. Excellent food and an extensive wine list in pleasant surroundings.
Another great meal just before the latest lockdown and already looking forward to our next visit.
Everything we had to eat and drink was very good. Nothing we had chosen at La Garrigue before. Must go back soon.
Feel very covid secure here. The restaurant is spotlessly clean throughout with clear measures in place that don't impact on the dining experience. Staff very friendly and efficient. Good choice of food and drinks. Always a winner with me.
In the circumstances the staff managed very well to be friendly and welcoming. The food was very good and the Patron chose our wine which was also very good. We'll come again hopefully in better times. It was good to see Tim Stead chairs.
Really enjoyed our visit here, we were made to feel welcome, safe and comfortable . The service was first class and the quality of the food was excellent we will definitely plan to come back here next time we are in Edinburgh.
An excellent French Bistrot - the menu has enough choice and the food is classic - terrine de pintadeau and cassoulet were both excellent, and the creme brulée had a perfect flavour with crispy top blow-torched to perfection. Service was efficient friendly and very french (in a good way). Prices very reasonable for a good restaurant in central Edinburgh. Covid precautions were well done and felt safe.
Food is good and reasonably priced. Lovely surroundings. Staff are excellent. Very good wines.
Cannot fault anything about the restaurant.
We had a most enjoyable lunch. The Monk Fish en Croute was delicious. Service was professional and we had time enjoy the experiance. We were very impressed by the setup to deal with the pandemic. We felt very secure. We will be back.
Lovely place that did its best to handle covid restrictions that left it a little down on atmosphere. The good was excellent and service equally good. A little music might have helped mask the noise of an aircon unit but overall we were very happy with our visit and will go back when we return to the city
Good French local food
Absolutely amazing food. I did not get my usual -' i could have made that at home' feeling i get often .I could not have made any of this at home! Every dish ( we had the tasting menu) was beautiful and delicious. The staff were lovely. Very quiet and authentic.
Food was superb and the atmosphere in restaurant was good. The distancing etc was well done Service was also good
Good value, excellent choice of menu and wine. Most pleasant lunch
Beautiful food with fantastic service, will definitely return.
I’ve passed this little gem literally hundreds of times on my way to and from work. We decided to try it as somewhere new to us but also familiar!!! We were not disappointed. What an absolute delight from start to finish. Completely Covid - compliant including Perspex screens but which in no way detracted from our time there. The food was divine, we tried new wines and the staff were just the right balance of knowledgeable, attentive and humorous. So good we’re going again this week❤️
