La Pergola at The Wheatsheaf
The emphasis at La Pergola is to produce wholesome home cooked food in a traditional Italian style. Where possible we use home grown vegetables and herbs that are cultivated on our allotment, and many items on the menu are homemade, such as the fennel and pork sausages, antipasti pickles and bread.
Our kitchen is home to a wood burning pizza oven. Our pizzas have a distinctive taste that is only achieved in a clay oven. The pizza dough is made fresh every day and from the dining room it is possible to watch your pizza being prepared.
Wonderful restaurant - food outstanding. Little noisy at time I think its just the acoustics of the building. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. A little gem in the countryside
Outstanding food like always, and staff are excellent.
Lovely food - friendly staff - good value for money - what else could you need ?
Service slow. An hour before good came. Lost our food order. Desserts not as ordered. Drink provided had to be returned as tasted fermented. Which they acknowledged it didn’t look right at the time of serving but still delivered it to table. Won’t be going back.
Food was pretty good, classic British Italian stuff. Portion sizes were well tailored towards some kinds of British diners, bit big for me! Staff were polite and helpful, but woefully busy. We got the impression that people hadn't turned up for work and were left waiting a while for food.
I would still recommend this place.
Lapergola is always a good experience , serene and refreshing .Delicious food
The restaurant staff were very hospitable and the food was excellent. We are planning to go again.
Delicious , fresh food and a wonderful team too. The food was hot , the kids enjoyed their menu , their house wine was very good too.
Really great to be able to visit a traditional Italian restaurant as there are so few of these left. The only thing I would improve is the variety of vegetarian and gluten free choices on the Sunday lunch menu. But that is just me being picky. I would still go there again.
Brilliant fresh food..helpful friendly staff..good price
Lovely place, we have been here several times. Great service, food, atmosphere. Great with the kids.
A very good meal, slightly spoilt by staff hovering to grab plates before we had finished eating a course. Side plates also swept way after first course, despite still having bread on them. Not a place for leisurely dining as our three course meal was over in a hour.
Very nice Italian food and friendly service
We will try this restaurant again although the food was rather variable on this occasion. One of the main meals was very good, but the other two were rather ordinary and did not appear freshly cooked. Why chips with everything, not typically Italian. Ambience and service fine.
Ok nothing special, very busy and noisy, Italian food the girls had was good, my steak was poor
Another great meal.
As always. outstanding!
My family love the food here.! Always delicious, and super friendly service.
Always feel welcome at the Pegola. Food is exceptional and service friendly. Would recommend to all Italian food lovers.
It’s a place I’ve driven past for a number of years and always meant to stop. Glad I did. A hidden gem!
Loved the buzz and family run atmosphere, even though it was noisy we just enjoyed everything about the place
Good food but service slow and got forgotten a few times. Bright lighting, tables close together and very busy..more for families than a romantic dinner for 2!
As usual, our Saturday evening meal served here was excellent. Rosa & her family and staff know how to feed you! We've just booked a table for 10 family members for my Birthday on 9 February, & really looking forward to another great evening of lovely food in our favourite Italian restaurant!!
Friday night pizza. We had a 7pm booking so restaurant wasn't too busy.
Birthday meal with my family, can’t fault La Pergola at al. Friendly staff and great food!
Good food, vibrant place on a Friday evening and friendly attentive staff. Homemade pizzas are good.
We chose this on the basis of online reviews, and we were not disappointed. Despite being early January, the restaurant was pretty full at 7.45pm on a Saturday. Many tables soon became free, but many of these were taken by a fresh influx. Our drinks order was taken quickly, and most of them came soon enough, but we did have to wait quite a while, and then ask, for our meals order to be taken. No complaints with the food once it came, however, with both the starters and mains being most enjoyable. For starters we had calamari, which was excellent and the mushroom & tomato bruschetta, would have been top drawer as well, were it not for one of the slices being toasted far too much. My wife's seafood main was really good, whilst my sirloin was stunning, with the mushroom sauce really adding to its flavour. Good coffees to finish, and the carafe of house red was eminently drinkable.
In terms of service and atmosphere, it won't live in the memory, but the food made it all worthwhile, and given the quality of the latter, £63.25 for starters, mains, drinks and coffee for two strikes me as pretty good value.
Not our first visit to La Pergola and certainly not our last!
Excessively noisy restaurant. Food average at best.
Perfect as usual. Service is outstanding and food is delicious. We have been here a couple of times so far and we love it; it is easily became our favourite place in Cambridge.
WELL WORTH THE DRIVE . EXCELLENT WELCOME . EXCELLENT HAPPY STAFF(MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE) NOTHING TOO MUCH TROUBLE,AND THE FOOD IS REALLY FRESH AND TASTY.THE WHOLE PLACE HAD A BUZZ ABOUT IT.WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND ,THIS GOES FOR ALL OUR PARTY,WE ALL LOVE IT HERE. D.K.
Food good but too noisy and tables too close to each other also serviettes not adequate for eating pasta.
Visited off the recommendation of a colleague and I was not disappointed. The food was fantastic, the mains were full of flavour (and very well priced); and the tiramisu was as good as expected.
As usual, we enjoyed a great dining experience, along with our 8yr old Grandson. Thank you very much, Rosa, Domenico & staff. MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
As usual decent Italian food in a busy atmosphere. Always worth a trip
Great experience, a must try if not eaten here before.
Excellent food, good value, super friendly service
Everything was good, from the service to the food. I am going to go again and try something else. Lovely place and people.
It is the second time we are visiting La Pergola at The Wheatsheaf. It was a special occasion, and we it was dinner for two. We were very happy with the service and the quality of the food. The stuff was very friendly and the food was delicious. It is a spacious and cosy place. We were really happy with the overall experience. Highly recommend for all occasions
this restaurant is a great place to eat, the staff are very good ,service is quick .parking is easy
