La Pergola at The Wheatsheaf
The emphasis at La Pergola is to produce wholesome home cooked food in a traditional Italian style. Where possible we use home grown vegetables and herbs that are cultivated on our allotment, and many items on the menu are homemade, such as the fennel and pork sausages, antipasti pickles and bread.
Our kitchen is home to a wood burning pizza oven. Our pizzas have a distinctive taste that is only achieved in a clay oven. The pizza dough is made fresh every day and from the dining room it is possible to watch your pizza being prepared.

Lovely restaurant with delicious food especially the profiteroles! It’s not the place to go for a quiet romantic meal for 2. Restaurant was very noisy and we felt the service wasn’t very good when we first arrived although improved once the restaurant emptied out a bit. We went on a Sat evening so maybe other nights might br different.
Very good food Great atmosphere Very friendly staff
Lovely food and excellent service we have been there more then a dozen times and the food is always outstanding
Great place, would even recommend it to my Italian friends!! I had a lovely scallopina, others had delicious pasta dishes. We were all very happily full after!!
Excellent food, incredibly friendly and accommodating staff. Great country scenery.
Lovely restaurant, family authentic Italian, staff are helpful and friendly, food is really good and a fair price. A must try!
Lovely food, authentic Italian, great pizza, fab coffee, good healthy eating fish of the day option. Tomato salad ultra delicious. Spotlessly clean.
fab food, I have to go back another 5 times as there are some things on the menu I want to have.
Maybe some nice quiet music in the background would be good just for more ambiance.
We will definitely be back on a monthly basis and cannot wait for the extension to be finished.
We enjoyed the relaxed and friendly atmosphere, good food. A great family place to enjoy! Highly recomended!
Lovely first experience! Food was delicious and great atmosphere! Definitely will go back!!!
Very authentic Italian food with a family feel and really friendly service. Lovely to have vegetables from their allotment too!
Staff welcoming and we always have lovely meals here . Had a great pizza this time and my friend reported home made profiteroles delicious !
I booked the table for my friend’s 40th birthday meal. We were allowed to decorate the table with balloons, flower and special cake which we brought. Staff were very friendly and service was excellent. Highly recommended for special gathering or family meal out.
You are made to feel welcome and valued. Everybody wants you to enjoy your meal and evening to the full.
My first time at this restaraunt and was impressed,The service and food were excellent and the decor like
a traditional Italian.Plenty of parking ,And I can't wait till next time.
Food was awful, not edible. Left most of it. Very bland. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Their website and when we visited the restaurant states different pricing for Sunday Brunch. This was quite disappointing as website said price is £13.95 and when we visit restaurant it was £15.95.
Its not a massive issue, but we were choosing between two restaurants to visit, and we chose this as we thought it was good value, but it was surprising when you show at restaurant and price is completely different. I think for £16 its a bit overpriced for one main and desert.
Excellent as usual, one of our favorite local restaurants.
Truly authentic Italian. Wonderful starters on the specials biard and amazing freshly made pizzas
La pergola provides very good basic Italian food and wine at a reasonable price. The service is both friendly and efficient.
Service a bit slow otherwise OK.
Food was good.
Nice beer garden for the kid to play
A really enjoyable meal with a great menu. Having occasionally visited Italy over the years and enjoyed eating in local restaurants; La Pergola offers an authentic Italian eatery experience.
The only really authentic Italian food I've had in the UK! Fabulous!
We came here as it was my dad's choice for his early birthday/ fathers day present.
It's on a busy road and I would never have thought to go here, but am glad we did as it was really nice.
The staff were so friendly. They were very welcoming to my daughter, who is only 11 months.
The food was delicious, I would've happily eaten it all over again!
It was slightly pricey, but good for a treat night.
A really great mid week meal, unhurried friendly, great service and most of all really great food.
It was the son's birthday (13) and he totally enjoyed it.
As a family we will be back
Highly recommended as I don't think you can be disappointed by the really great food.
Very friendly restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. Great service and good authentic Italian food. We were recommended here by the owners of the cottage we stayed in , well worth the drive to get there.
Many years ago at our first visit we thought the Pizza was overrated but we recently went for a second time and chose the what I would call International menu items and they were excellent.
The restaurant was extremely busy and had a great ambience. Children were there but well behaved and no problem. The staff were so friendly it made the evening.
Great food as usual! Not the best place for conversation as can get very noisy but the service and food is great.
Brilliant food, some of the best Italian we’ve had. Will be back.
My husband and I eat here regularly, it never disappoints.
Noone front of house. Booked for 5, table set for 6. Only one brand of gin despite being attached to a pub. No orange, wrong beer etc. Not a good start.
My starter was lovely (mussels) but my son had the calamari. No sauce or dip. When we asked for it, by the time it came the starter was cold. After asking for it the waiter did numerous other things like setting a table etc while the starter went cold. The bresaola was ok but nothing special.
The wine was brought to the table with the cork out - you just don't do that...
Despite the wonderful looking pizza oven my pizza was so so, I had better at someone's home recently. The pasta sauce was oversalted. The veal was nice enough but came with roasted potatoes not saute as advertised and when pointed out the waiter laughed it off.
The puddings were nice.
I had 2 birthday girls with me (noted on booking form). Slightly annoying to see another table get happy birthday sung as dessert with candle brought to table while we got nothing.
Finally a lady who had hardly smiled all evening and just looked generally annoyed, came to table and very abruptly told us if we wanted to pay by card we'd need to come to till as the WiFi didn't go to the table. The message was fine. The way it was delivered was not.
I would not go back.
As usual, everything was really good - food, service etc. Can't fault it! We didn't think our Grandson would be able to eat the whole large pizza, but as you can see, he most certainly could!!
La Pergola is a very friendly restaurant with lovely food. Happy to recommend any day!
great place to go for any occassion, food, service, staff all excellent, will be back soon.
The food is absolutely delicious, served by very friendly staff who were more than helpful! 10/10
This is the best Italian restaurant around, & we come here for any type of meal - Saturday night for two, family occasions, Sunday lunch etc. We have never been disappointed with the food quality, service, variety, ambiance or friendliness!
Good pizza, nice staff. We would prefer more choices on pizza's (especially vegetarian ones).
Excellent starters, overall a bit pricey.
Visited with friends on the tuesday then returned Friday with family. Both occasions fantastic food and service. Staff working socks off. Very busy and 100% on service. We will definitely be regulars now. Highly recommend
Always good, nice staff and no rushing!good pizza and inexpensive wine.
We go here regularly. Food is great and prices reasonable - the only thing I'd flag is that they seem to have a regular turnover of serving staff and that they always seem to struggle to cope as the restaurant fills up. By the time you get to dessert during the evening you can expect to be waiting quite a long time to be served ...
