Lai Wah Heen Restaurant
Lai Wah Heen, meaning “a luxurious meeting place,” has achieved the superb quality and true character of the best Hong Kong restaurants.
With accolades from; The New York Times - “the best dim sum in Toronto, maybe the best in North America”, Gourmet Magazine – “a sense of Hong Kong’s new culinary design” and enRoute Magazine – “edible masterpieces rarely savoured outside of Hong Kong”, Lai Wah Heen Restaurant continues to deliver the highest standards to Toronto diners.
The Lai Wah Heen team brings the latest trends in Chinese cuisine – exotic herbs and spices from the Pacific Rim, skillful use of tropical fruits and seafood dishes of exquisite refinement.
We had the duck course, mango dessert and rice roll with red bean. Everything was delicious. Except the tea. The tea had a bit of weird sour after taste which I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be like that. The service was excellent. But it is a bit pricey.
In a city full of “hot new restaurants” that are impossible to get into, with mediocre food and atrocious service, Lai Wah Heen is a breath of fresh air.
As always, LWH never disappoints. Outstanding dim sum, and excellent service. N o one does it better in downtown TO.
Always excellent food and refined service. We love the Mu Shu and the seafood. Parking in the building for $5.00.
Staff was great with service and the food is incredible
pleasant restaurant that could use a little spit and polish, but nice enough. I liked the art work!
Has been outstanding since 1995.
I have eaten there hundreds of times and it has always been excellent.
Incredible service. Delicious food and not too noisy. A perfect evening. Thank you to the wonderful staff!
A truly wonderful experience. Very authentic. Staff very professional and attentive. Food is exceptional.
Highly recommend for authentic dim sum and dinner, excellent service.
Food and service excellent. Was wondering how it would be after closures etc but was as great as always. Attentive and the food was outstanding. Hot and sour soup. Crab claw. And of course THE DUCK!!
Will be back soon
Very disappointing. As people with a love and knowledge of Chinese cuisine, we were disappointed by the quality of some of the dishes and felt we were definitely put into the‘ignorant foreign tourist’ bracket. We will certainly not be returning
We were welcomed very warmly and ushered in.
The service was impeccable and our server was very attentive and helpful. He certainly added to the great experience including his flair of serving, especially the Peking duck.
The food was perfectly cooked and stylishly served. We ordered the dinner for 4 which was more than sufficient and included expensive items like duck, lobster and giant shrimp!
Will definitely recommend for any special or intimate occasion.
Very difficult to navigate parking. One patron in wheelchair and it is not an accessible friendly place.
Very mediocre dim-sum and overpriced. You have superior experience in many uptown digs.
Not going to return.
Great food, great service. Always so consistent with their quality
Unique dim sum dishes, excellent service
Favourites include the dim sum, stir fried wagyu beef in garlic and supreme soy sauce, kung pao chicken, butterflied lobster with noodles. Quality is exceptional with all the sauces made from scratch. Broths are clear and tasty.
Great food, could’ve used more servers. Fried wild rice and dim sum platter was yummy.
Amazing food, totally recommend the Shanghai Crab
As a highly satisfied patron of Lai Wah Heen for over 25 years, I have always been able to rely on the top-notch food and impeccable yet friendly service to match for many of my most happy and memorable family, business and special dining occasions. It is my strong opinion that the Dim Sum and Peking Duck have consistently been the best in the city. Very touched by the thoughtful and extemporaneous presentation of a delicious birthday dessert in a recent visit. Many thanks to the always attentive and courteous Lai Wah Heen management and staff.
GReat good quiet old fashion and fair Price
Wine list very small
Great food and great service, highly recommend this restaurant.
The food, in short , is as good as Chinese food can be. There is a new prix fixe menu which we tried , for a change from our usual choices, and it succeeded fully as an intro to something new. Old friends on he staff are still there and provided a wamr welcome. Like any good restaurant the staff are no good without the food and the food is no good without the staff. Lai wah heen succeeds in both departments. Bravo.
Very good food! Amazing experience
Dated. Poor service.
Excellent somewhat eclectic Chinese cuisine, not your typical Cantonese or Xijuan fare. A very large menu with only passing atrention to segregating various types of dishes.. Very attentive wait staff, although the restaurant was nearly empty when we were there. A unique experience.
Great experience and excellent service.
We have been at Lai Wah Heen many times and the Peking duck was always outstanding. The first course of the duck was excellent, however we did not like the second course with the lettuce ,Peking duck and noodles. In the past we never had noodles in with the lettuce, diced vegetables and duck. The hot and sour soup was very good. Overall the prices have increased considerably. The restaurant is beautiful and the servers were great, however I think the second course needs to be same as in the past
Good food and good service as usual. Restaurant is able to maintain a high standard all these years.
The menu is extensive and the quality of the ingredients excellent. The service was fast and whenever we asked for anything we got it immediately. It was a pleasurable lunch experience.
A pleasant anniversary dinner. Quiet and low key. Portions were just about right. We retained left-overs for lunch the following day.
We came for our 15th wedding anniversary celebration. We also had our wedding at the same hotel 15 years ago. Food is still delicious and service is amazing. My son usually don’t like eating crabs, mainly because it is messy. The crab dish that we ordered today was so good that he dug in with both hands and could not stop eating. His action speaks to the food quality. Was a great evening.
A downtown gem. Impeccable service. Superb quality and taste.
Food was outstanding! Can’t say enough about it. Fabulous ingredients done superbly. I realize I am gushing but it was so good and staff were wonderful. Will be recommending to everyone.
My son and daughter-in-law (and their baby) had just had a quiet midday wedding ceremony at City Hall and we chose to celebrate quietly at Lai Wah Heen. We were not disappointed.
They had given us a table in the window as we had requested and we told the maitre d' as he sat us that we only wanted Peking (Beijing) Duck for four and a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne. He apologized that the restaurant was out of VC (as are most restaurants and LCBO stores at this time) and said the best he could do was to serve us with two small bottles of Moet & Chandon, the last two bottles the restaurant had. Good call.
The duck was presented, cut and served beautifully in both the rice-crepe and Crystal Fold (lettuce-wrap) courses. It was delicious.
We finished with deep-fried sesame balls stuffed with pickled ginger and lotus seed paste. Just right.
It had been years since I had been to Lai Wah Heen. I was impressed by their standard of cooking and of service. I'll be going back soon.
A wonderful treat - our main server - Ken - is just such a wonderful person - so professional!!! We truly love Lau Wah Heen - a privilege to be able to enjoy your amazing cuisine!!! THANK YOU!!!
Decent food, quite . Not impressed by the decoration
Great dimsum place in a comfortable setting.
