Restaurants near Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor

The Empire Steak House has excellent food, good service, an elegant atmosphere and a great view, so what’s wrong? It’s hard to find. We found it online, booked a reservation on Open Table and had the address but, when we arrived, we saw no sign of the restaurant. It turns out it is atop the Ilikai Hotel but even when we entered the hotel, we couldn’t find it and had to ask at the hotel reception desk where it is. It has an elevator just for the restaurant that takes you directly to the top floor which has a view of downtown Honolulu and the harbor. On arrival, we were greeted by Julio, the attentive manager who asked us right off how we found the restaurant. We replied that we found it online but, on leaving, told him about our experience actually locating it. It’s worth the effort.

Food was excellent, as I remember from a year ago. Prices went up slightly, but that is to be expected in 2025. Sushi chefs were top-notch! The food reminded me of Japan all over again. Otoro melting in your mouth. The wait staff was so-so. Possibly understaffed or something. We asked for hot tea about halfway through our meal and never received it. Parking isn't free with validation anymore. Not the restaurants fault...its the hotel. Hopefully, they open a stand alone location that is not in a fancy Waikiki Hotel. Overall, it is recommended

Our server Eric was very attentive and always ready to make sure we had an enjoyable Easter brunch! Food was fresh and plentiful. Very nice experience.
