We are a country Gastropub owned by farmers. Our farm supplies the beef, lamb and pork and we source other ingredients from local producers where we can. Our small seasonal menu changes regularly reflecting what is available in our area. We pride ourselves on being very much a country pub, offering freshly prepared seasonal food and a warm welcome. Believed to date back to the 17th century the Horse & Groom was originally used to house local farmer workers, with the increase in horse drawn traffic using the old Hastings Road the property was utilised to offer weary travellers a place to rest and stable their horse ready for their onward journey. It then, and has to this date, become known as the Horse and Groom .​ Free of tie, the pub now offers the traditional country pub fair, set in the glorious surroundings of Rushlake Green, with its picturesque village properties encircling the village green, centre of the villages attraction and host to many winter and summer events.
