- JjimmyAnchorage / Alaska •1 review5.0Dined 1 day agoWow! My wife and I had the best dining experience we have had last night at Southside Bistro. Not sure why we havent been here about 10 years and we both agreed that won't happen again. From the greeting to the exit we felt welcome and never rushed. We arrived about 10 minutes early expecting to wait as it was busy. But they had our table ready anyway and we were seated immediately. We both order a nice crisp King St. pilsener beer and appetizers to share. We ordered the escargot and the scallops with polenta. The escargot was seasoned perfectly and not overly garlicky which we appreciated. The scallops were seared and cooked perfectly with exceptional flavor with the sauce that accompanied. The polenta cake was surprisingly flavorful and paired nicely with the scallops and tomatoe relish. I ordered a bowl of clay chowder which was another hit with me. It was fresh and seasoned nicely. For our main dishes my wife got the veal medallions and I got the duck. Both exceptional and full of flavor. Neither were over seasoned or over sauced. I particularly enjoyed the braised red cabbage that paired nicely with my perfectly cooked medium duck. My wife really enjoyed her veal cooked medium as well. Sauced nicely and the accompanying potatoes pancake was yet another hit. All finished with well constructed creme brulee. I would be amiss if I did not mention the service. Exceptional. We like to take our time when going out for a nice meal. Some places dont appreciate that. Not here. Our server was attentive but not pushy. Seemingly always available but not over your shoulder. The meal was paced nicely and nothing is worse then having your appetizer arriving two minutes before your main dish. The host was very pleasant. I think his name was Jens. What a pleasure! Seemed so appreciative of our visit and he has a knack making you feel like has known you for years. A gift not many have. Needless to say that was a long winded way to say we will be back! Would highly recommend.More infoSouthside Bistro$$$$• Contemporary American• Anchorage•4.9
