"We chose from the 3 course lunch menu. The sourdough bread was delicious, marmite butter of course is a love or hate relationship. Three loves, one hate. One of us had beef to start, but the description did not state that it was beef tartare. The rest of us had mackerel on smoked yoghurt (couldn't taste the smoke) and horseradish (no kick). The texture of the mackerel made us think it was sous vide or cured. You certainly couldn't get the skin off easily. Pretty as a picture, as expected. The mains were absolutely delicious, but there was no way of getting the beautiful sauces put with the rock bass onto the fork. Licking the plate would probably have not been appreciated. The beef and lamb choices were fantastic. Our coffee was delivered well before the sweets arrived, so we sent them away. When I looked at the sweet choices, I have to say I was not tempted. I chose the "chocolate, beetroot and Netherwood Estate damson", not knowing what it really meant, as there was no description. Ice cream? Sorbet? Mousse? Whatever it was, it actually was delicious and very moreish. The service was excellent, but I have to say I sometimes find it a little jarring when a waiter says, "beef AND beef?" in a bit of a condescending tone, as though you shouldn't be ordering a beef starter and a beef main," or, "are you sure you don't want wine?" when you know your own mind. We were sat in front of the display unit by the kitchen, and the staff struggled to serve the two of us with our back to it as there was no space behind us. Overall, we thought the food was excellent and the service very attentive. A very pleasant experience."See more
