Located inside of what was once a Chinese schoolhouse, Brasserie l'Ecole in Victoria, British Columbia now serves high-end French cuisine in a casual setting. The name is actually a nod to this building's former occupation (l'Ecole means 'the school' in French) and the unpretentious atmosphere (a Brasserie is laidback eatery that serves comfort food).Chef leans heavily on our local farmers, using seasonal ingredients to create a menu that is a callback to the kind of food that was once common along the French countryside. The wine is French, the food is French leaning and the staff are fantastic.

    Had a fantastic experience at Ugly Duckling. We booked a last-minute dinner during a short cruise stop in Victoria, and the team accommodated our dietary restrictions without hesitation. The biggest surprise was the wine pairing — it featured several excellent BC Indigenous-method wines that made the meal even more memorable. Highly recommend for both the food and the thoughtful hospitality.

    Craft is always a pleasure to visit. The open patio was perfect to be out of the sun yet enjoy the warm air. The food never disappoints and the service was impeccable. A very enjoyable experience.
