Oma's Hideaway is a vibrant, maximalist restaurant inspired by the life and spirit of Chef Thomas Pisha Duffly's grandmother, Kiong Tien “Tina” Vandenberg. Her ability to adapt, to make the most out of limited resources, and to stay creative while projecting warmth and brightness is the guiding force behind Oma’s Hideaway.Born during the pandemic as a pop-up in the Gado Gado parking lot, Oma’s became a permanent beacon of iridescent light in Portland’s Richmond neighborhood in 2021. The menu draws from Tina’s life story, taking influence from the craveable, soul-satisfying hawker food of Singapore and Malaysia and “turning up the volume” with exaggerated yet balanced flavors in Chef Tom’s signature style. Oma’s serves dinner accompanied by a seasonal list of hand-crafted cocktails and zero-proof drinks.

What a fantastically quirky celebration venue for my son’s 18th! The service, the vibes, the food, and cocktails were top notch. If you’re seeking a venue with: a bathroom with dance music, red stalls, sparkly lights, and disco balls; heritage breed chicken art; Sasquatch, Chinatown, Portland street art; and a feather duster from the Oregon Trail — go here! Favorite dishes were the incredible garlic focaccia bread with the most amazing butter you’ve ever tasted, the NY steak, the garlic green beans, halibut, and slightly spicy, smoky caramelized burnt ends. The smoky cabbage salad was delicious, but much richer than I expected so had to take home — might benefit from less sauce as there are a lot of strong flavors going on in this dish! Finished evening with a butterscotch mouth explosion with the budino and sparklers for my son’s 18th. The service was fantastic despite the restaurant being packed on a Thursday night. It was nice to chat with Alejandro the bar manager and the fellow who gave me the tour. The bar/lounge area was popping too! Glad you are here and full of Malarkey!

First time in Portland for a business meeting, and what a great experience! ✨ I highly recommend this spot! The variety of Latin and South American flavors was absolutely delightful. Having cachaça as a smoked spirit was such a unique and unexpected touch—it made the experience even more memorable. 🥃✨ Beautiful ambiance, great energy, and an incredible dining experience. Definitely a place I’d visit again when I’m back in Portland! ❤️
