We are a small, family run restaurant since 2002 specialising in carefully sourced Aberdeen Angus beef from Scottish small highland farms, cooked simply but with flair and attention to detail. Our emphasis is on high quality local ingredients and fresh produce from the best of local suppliers. Beef is selected, prepared and hung for us by Award wining "John Gilmour" of Macmerry master butchers since 1946. Fresh fish are delivered daily by Calum Sinclair and J.K Thompsons. West coast Mussels are delivered fresh daily by "Sea Mcgee". Our venison comes from wild Perthshire deer, lamb from the Scottish Borders. Artisan and farmhouse British cheeses are supplied by renowned Edinburgh cheesemonger, Iain Mellis and dairy produce from Fife Creamery. We take pride to cook everything fresh in our own kitchen daily. We have outside seating arrangements for walk-Ins only.

As the team at Edinburgh’s Piccolino will tell you themselves, no love is more sincere than love of food. Italian food, in this case, as Piccolino is one of the most delightful Italian restaurants in this part of the Old Town, right on High Riggs Street and a stone’s throw from all kinds of Edinburgh attractions. The authentic menu offers quality rather than quantity meaning you can be assured that whatever you order has been prepared with love by chefs who care about what they’re doing. Piccolino will warm your heart and certainly fill your stomach so reserve a table now – you’ll not regret it.

Yamato in Edinburgh offers a stylish and modern interior, featuring bamboo lighting, a sleek black wood bar, and a shared dining concept. The space is sectioned with wooden dividers, creating a semi-private feel, though the gaps in the panels make it easy to see and hear neighboring tables. I could over hear very clearly the full conversation of the table next door so if there are two tables chatting, it might get rather sound complex. Seating near the entrance is also a drawback, as cold air rushes in whenever the door opens. Kinkakuji Cocktail – A mix of sweet and citrusy yuzu notes, but the sweetness overpowered the drink. While strong and undiluted, it felt unbalanced. Snow Crab Vulcan – Overwhelmed by raw onion, with too little crab and a tart sauce. A missed opportunity that could have been improved with a better balance of ingredients. Agedashi Tofu – Served in four pieces, with a light batter and a flavorful sauce. A solid dish. Chawanmushi, the Egg-based Dish with Prawn & Mushrooms – Lacked flavor and needed soy sauce to enhance the taste. Dragon Roll – An eight-piece roll with crispy tempura prawn, well-balanced and enjoyable. Service was attentive and fast,10% service charge added to the bill. Prices for sushi rolls were on the higher side. Overall, the ambiance is appealing, but some seating choices and dish compositions could be improved for a better dining experience.
