Believed to date back to the 17th century the Horse & Groom was originally used to house local farmer workers, with the increase in horse drawn traffic using the old Hastings Road the property was utilised to offer weary travellers a place to rest and stable their horse ready for their onward journey. It then, and has to this date, become known as the Horse and Groom .​ Free of tie, the pub now offers the traditional country pub fair, set in the glorious surroundings of Rushlake Green, with its picturesque village properties encircling the village green, centre of the villages attraction and host to many winter and summer events.     We loved meeting the owner. He is a lovely chap. He has decorated his restaurant beautifully, and the food is incredible. The staff looked happy as well, and the service was excellent. We went there for Father's Day, and I accidentally chose the wrong date. The lovely owner checked with me if I had the correct date. Thank you! We were fitted into a slot and could take our beautiful dog, Luca. He is recovering from surgery, and we couldn't leave him. Luca had a beef patty. It was cooled down before it was given to him. Lovely touch. Thank you very much.

    Went here this evening for early Mothers Day treat from my son , had a great time ! Place is wonderful , very authentic , loads of room too , staff very welcoming and cheerful/chatty which is always nice . The food was so tasty , All sorts to choose from actually I thought . Very tasty as well . Overall great on everything , definitely be going back . 10/10 *
