L'Auberge Chez Francois
Another lovely evening at our favorite occasion restaurant. This time we had my brother-in-law and his wife from out of town with us and they are still raving about the evening, the food, the setting. The two brothers savored every mouthful of the chateaubriand, while I enjoyed the trout almondine -- rich with crab meat -- and my sister-in-law took my recommendation and was thrilled with the lobster in sauterne sauce. We left unable to eat another bite and looking forward to our next visit.
Everything is perfect from the service to the food to the atmosphere! We will do all special occasions here going forward!
An Excellent service, delicious food and beautiful view of the outside surroundings. I am coming back soon and would like to sit and dine outside on the terrace. Also, I would like to take a walk around your property and garden. Beautiful and relaxing place!!! Thank you
As always, L’Auberge Chez Francois delivers an outstanding classic experience in French cuisine. We appreciate the care in presentation for each and every course and the gift of time we are allowed to enjoy our meal and the setting. L’Auberge remains our go-to for special family occasions and never disappoints.
Old school, perfect classics. Wear a jacket. Vintage French comfort food. Worth every penny.
We always have an amazing time at L’Auberge Chez Francois. It’s our favorite restaurant in the DC area. Food and service is always exceptional, without being pretentious. We highly recommend a visit to anyone wanting a special night out. Never disappoints!
Fantastic - really a wonderful experience. My wife and I enjoyed it immensely.
Fantastic experience. Restaurant was highly recommended by many people. And even with high expectations it didn’t disappoint.
The items on the menu are 30-40 % higher than at comparable French restaurants. They push the prices fixed menu and you have to ask repeatedly for the a la carte menu.
Superb food, excellent service and wonderful ambience makes L’Auberge one of our favorite restaurants. We have been there at least 6-7 times over the past several years but never tire of it. I wish the chef and the owner all the very best in the future.
Our fourth visit here and it was a bit underwhelming. Our previous three trips were nothing short of spectacular. But this night was definitely off. Service was spotty, not neglectful, but inconsistent and the place was not packed. Fois gras was lacking in flavor and the special "late harvest" wine that came with it had an off taste, more chemical than the usual Sauternes flavor. The Roquefort salad was way overdressed to the point of being soggy. Things picked up with the seafood entrees, which were perfectly cooked and delicious. The desserts turned out to be the true stars (baked Alaska and a hazelnut souffle).
The wine (white Burgundy) was served way too warm -- obviously something that was fixed table-side with the ice bucket, but a flaw I would not expect for a restaurant of this caliber.
In the end it was a good meal, it just lacked attention to detail. But for over $400 (for two, including wine and tip) we expected more. I truly hope we just caught an off-night as our previous experiences here were great.
This lovely restaurant survives and even betters through the decades. My daughter's family from New Zealand, including my twin eight year-old granddaughters, thoroughly enjoyed my birthday dinner. A unique delight.
Very romantic, service was impeccable and the food was amazing. Huge wine list and very knowledgable sommelier.
Can't wait to return!
We have been away from the DC area for 20 years, so this was our first visit since Jacques took the reins. It is seamless...same lovely ambience, wonderful food. The perfect spot for my Bastille Day birthday celebration.
Excellent food, ambience and service. Since they have a prix fix menu concept, charging a few $s extra for certain appetizers and desserts makes no sense. I am ok to pay few $s more for the main course and have any desert/appetizer included.
I would recommend L'Auberge Chez Francois. My one concern was that it was a bit loud and the four of us were seated at a very large table that made it difficult for us to hear each other frequently.
Celebrate my friends Birthday each year at your restaurant and always a marvelous experience.
Service was great and food was fantastic. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Will definitely visit again.
The waist staff did a great job shielding us from the noon sun while we ate el plein air. The boullabaisse was delicious, the sea bass was nicely prepared. The souffle was wonderful and the blueberry tart was perfect. Thank you for a lovely lunch.
Had a wonderful dinner for our 45th anniversary. The Chateaubriand was excellent. Would love to get the recipe for the pea soup. Our family thoroughly enjoyed the dinner.
Everything was perfection, as usual. Food was excellent and service outstanding. We are looking forward to outside dining when the weather cools.
good food always great service and a wonderful wonderful beautiful place to have a happy birthday party for my wife
We love this restaurant and our recent visit was excellent, excellent, excellent. In a party of 5 we had two gluten free and 2 vegetarians and the menu easily accommodated everyone. The food was excellent without exception with many choices for any taste / the atmosphere is warm and welcoming of a French country inn - we ate in a corner room with lovely views of the garden on a beautiful summer evening / our waiter (Edwin) was exceptional - - helpful and attentive without being intrusive. The menu is pre-fix with most entrees around $80, so the evening is a little pricey, but is absolutely a value for the outstanding quality of the evening in every aspect. Our outing was a special family event with our traditional gathering at Chez Francois and it was perfect.
Chez François is our most favorite dining spot. They always make you feel special and out is an event. The service is professional and the food is wonderful!
Excellence, with everything done to perfection!!! Synergistic teamwork at its best!!! Perfect truffles from heaven.
We went there for a birthday, and it was perfect. The food is truly delicious and the meal is slow-paced. You have time to really enjoy yourself as no one is trying to rush you. The rack of lamb was cooked to specifications, and perfection (which is rare in most restaurants). The seafood medley appetizer was great, and the onion soup well-balanced (not too much cheese, just really pleasant). As for dessert, I would go back for the souffle. A definite must. Enjoy the excellent service, the wine list is great. What can I say, it was not our first time celebrating a special event there, and it won't be the last. MERCI, L'Auberge...
We came here for my husband’s birthday and we had a great time. The food was delicious, authentic, and the staff was helpful and friendly.
Food, as always (we have been to L'Auberge Chez Francois many times) was outstanding. Ambiance was wonderful as well. This is our favorite restaurant in DC.
Service seemed a little slow, especially considering this was a Sunday night with relatively few diners.
Only been there a few times but each time is perfection. The food is fantastic, the staff all very friendly and attentive without getting in the way, the ambiance is lovely; it's quiet, with flowers everywhere, and beautiful views to the gardens. We always leave full, with smiles on our faces, looking forward to the next time. Great value for all the food you get. I highly recommend it!
The food is outstanding. I highly recommend the Chateaubriand! Perfectly cooked and melts in your mouth. The service is outstanding and everyone is welcoming and friendly. Great ambience too, of course.
Lunch is an excellent deal for great food and ambiance
My husband and I enjoy dining at L’Auberge Chez Francois because the staff are well trained and make your dining experience exceptional. They don’t hover, but are there when you need something. One thing that we really like is that your plates are not taken off the table until everyone is finished so you don’t feel rushed. Every course is spaced perfectly so you have time to enjoy each selection with out having the next course waiting on the table. Our waiter this time, Eric, was personable and knowledgeable about the menu and we appreciated his input about menu items. We had the special of the day, lemon sole and it was excellent! The fresh blueberry tart for dessert was extremely yummy and completed our meal.
Had an excellent celebration dinner at L'Auberge, have been going here for years and it is as good as ever
Service was excellent and the food was pretty good. Our experience was marred by a rude and obnoxious table nearby, and flies were hovering over our inside table constantly.
Outstanding. There is no other. Best dinner in Washington DC metro area - by far. A classic.
Have dined at L'Auberge Chez Francois several time over the years and the great thing is, the standards have never declined in any way.
We came here today for an anniversary brunch and we were very pleased with the food and service! This is one of the most outstanding restaurants in the Greater Washington DC area. We had salmon and a filet Mignon that were both very much enjoyed. The starters were also part of a fixed price luncheon. We enjoyed a choice of a great variety of appetizers, a tossed salad, and a dessert to go with our main dishes. The service was friendly and perfect in all respects. This is our 10th visit to this outstanding restaurant and it won't be our last! Oh yes, the restaurant throws in lots of freebees as part of the lunch, including samples of soups, side dishes, sorbets and more.
L'Auberge Chez Francois is a delight! Excellent food, ambience is lovely, a rare find!
