Le Canard Enchaine
Wonderful food, fantastic ambiance, great service. Their award-winning French Onion soup is spectacular as is the daily soup of the day, from Chicken Noodle to Mushroom, Corn, or Vegetarian, each freshly made without cream. Traditional salads with blue cheese and fresh apple slices mix with garlic snails, crab cakes and homemade pate as appetizers, Long Island Duck in berry sauce, veal chops, and many more choices fill out the menu. And then comes their special fresh bakery cakes, pies and tarts. Well worth the drive regardless how long it may take. Eating here is an experience you will not easily forget.
Excellent food and service. Owner was there welcoming all guests. Service is top of the line and the food is incredible!
Always reliable, always fun but quite noisy on a Saturday night. We haven't been in a few years and we were glad we went again.
It’s our go to restaurant for an amazing dinner, fun and relaxing
Perfect service, perfectly prepared food and great wine collection.
Always made to feel special.
Our dinners were delicious, the servers fantastic. Jean Jacques was a gracious host. Though no fault of the restaurant, two couples, who we learned are “regulars” were extremely loud and boisterous. Their loud voices put a damper on our evening. Wish someone had said something to them.
Le Canard is remarkable in everything they do. Food, drinks, and the incredible service all make for a memorable and wonderful dining experience.
Exceptional place!! Worth a special trip!
This is a wonderful restaurant. Everything is good - food and service.
Food and service is always excellent! Ambience is romantic but relaxed.
We were there on an “off” night...I hope. None of the staff was familiar. Has management changed? Familiar dishes were indifferently prepared. I hope this isn’t a new normal. I love the old Le Canard and I hope will be back to form or my next visit will be my last.
Both elegant and unpretentious. Good for any occasion or no occasion at all.
Each visit is like a breath of Paris with a friendly smile and a basket of fresh bread and butter. Their onion soup is awarded annually best in the Hudson Valley but each day the chef also makes a vegetable puree soup that is equally delicious. Coupled with their own crab cakes, mussels, and salads the lunch menu is just enough food to get you through the afternoon ... and for dinner time, their full offering of roasted duck, salmon, beef, lamb, and steak is complimented with fresh vegetables and homemade desserts. It doesn't get any better than this. ALWAYS the best choice to eat whenever you are in Kingston. Unfortunately closed for Tuesday lunch and all day Wednesday, but otherwise open regular hours.
As always, a semi-magical trip across a relatively non-descript threshold, on an unprepossessing street, into an out-of-the-way corner of the 6th or 10th arrondissment of Paris.
This is one of the nicest restaurants in the Hudson Valley. The ambiance is reminiscent of a Parisian bistro. The staff is friendly and very French. The food is fabulous. For appetizers we had mussels meunière and raw oysters. Both were fresh and flavorful. Dinner was the roast duck and beef bourguignon. The duck skin was crispy and the meat tender and moist. The beef bourguignon was excellent. Dessert was a flourless chocolate torte. Perfect way to end a perfect meal.
Loved the berry roast duck, the duck confit and the Tarte Tatin. This was a great find!
Excellent food as always, with knowledgable servers and cooked-to-order dishes. It doesn't get much better than this, even in Paris.
We happened to be upstate and searched out this french bistro online. The positive reviews we read about certainly occurred for us as we celebrated our 40th anniversary here. We shared a rack of lamb in a port wine reduction that was delicious and served with leaf spinach and mashed potatoes very nicely prepared. Soup and salad were very good as well and the Tatin apple tart was so tasty we actually bought a whole pie of it to take home and share with our kids. This is a gem in the historic stockade area of Kingston, and makes for a fine place to celebrate or just enjoy fine French food. Merci beaucoup!
The best resturant in Hudson Valley , Kingston ...
Our server Cathy was fantastic, the food was beyond !!!!
The food is always delicious and staff are very friendly. Its pricy but worth it.
While we were in the process of sitting down, the waitress approached us and asked what we would like to drink. We needed a couple minutes since we literally sat down and hadn't looked at the wine list, and asked for a minute. She waitress proceeded to rip the bottled wine list out of my hands to which we were aggressively told they have everything and can make any drink. After we quickly just ordered what first came to mind, the waitress then came back and asked how to make a bee's knees, which is a fairly common drink, considering they can make anything. As my sister was trying to explain this, the waitress proceeded to tell her "well, spit it out!" We asked to see the wine list, to which we were then responded with that they have everything. Needless to say, we walked out after less than 3 minutes of being treated like garbage and berated. I have never experienced something that like in all of my dining experiences and was absolutely appalled at the attitude of the staff. Don't waste your money or dignity at this place!
It was great- the food was phenomenal, the waiters were great.
The onion soup was delicious I had was great and the mushroom soup that my wife had was also very good
The main dishes we had were great and also we had told them it was our anniversary and they put a candle our chocolate mousse cake desert and didn’t charge for the desert
It's a whole experience, the food, the staff, the space... it was great.
We have eaten lunch there several times when passing through Kingston on vacation. It is always wonderful!
Le Canard Enchaine offers fine food in a relaxed atmosphere with excellent service. A true dinning experience that unfortunately is getting harder to find.
Visiting Kingston and it was a nice place.
Not quite the experience we were expecting based on reviews.
Unfortunately the trout was a bit fishy and without much flavor. Also, the waitress never told us about the specials Sunday night.
Duck and onion soup were very good.
Great meal again
We always have outstanding French cooking in a delightful atmosphere when we eat at Le Canard Enchaine.
this is my favorite place for so many reasons- every meal is perfect and you always feel welcome and well attended
The restaurant owner came around to all the tables and was very friendly! The food was PERFECTION!!! I had the Garlic Sausage special, black bean soup and the creme brulee was outstanding! I totally enjoyed my time there!
A friend and I were celebrating a birthday, and chose Le Canard Enchaine for the occasion. The choice did not disappoint. The ambience was perfect, service attentive, caring and excellent, and the salads were fresh and superlative. Highest recommendation!
We traveled from another state to Kingston, NY for a wedding and got in one night early. We planned a fancy date night and Le Canard Enchaine seriously delivered. The restaurant was quiet (no background music, which I love, so I could hear my husband speak). The waitstaff was attentive; we never ran out of wine or water. The warm goat cheese salad was unbelievable, as was the crab cake appetizer. Both our main courses (roasted duck and duck confit) were exceptional. Order the creme brulee for dessert.
Highly recommend. Top 5 meals of my life.
Le Canard Enchaine is a Hudson Valley treasure. The food, the ambience, and the service are all excellent.
Have been going there for many years. Consistently good food - always a treat!
Fab dining experience. Cannot say enough about the food, service and dessert.
did I mention the dessert???
Excellent food. Very attentive servers.
This restaurant always is a delight not only in the warm welcome we get but the consistency of the excellent food. This is one of our favorite restaurants and as close to dining in France as you can get. A must visit - wonderful.
Very good French restaurant comparable with high end New York establishments. Prices are at least a third less, especially the wine. Gallic, rustic French ambience. Highly recommended.
When the good weather and the longer daylight arrives, we love dining at Le Canard Enchaine with its wonderful food, excellent service and great French Bistro ambiance. Our choices of Shrimp Indochine (jumbo shrimp with jasmine rice, Asian sauce, ginger and wasabi) and the special branzino arrived in good time with their steaming plates after we finished our shared escargot in parsley butter with crusty French bread. Yum. We still had a little room for a shared lemon tart and some cappuccino. Our favorite restaurant in the New York area and it was great even after our five weeks in France!
As always we had a wonderful meal and brought along friends who will also become lifelong and frequent guests due to the friendly staff and fantastic food!
