Le Charlot - Southampton
We've taken the menu of our home location in NYC and added an East End twist.
The restaurant was closed when we arrived.
What a pleasant surprise. I ate here a few times when it opened, and found the food routine at best, except the mussels which were quite good. I’ve avoided it since then but decided to give it another try on a cold Sunday night. Big changes: the menu is like a “full service” French bistro, and the food is excellent. Southampton needs a ace like this, and it turns out that it has one.
We waited over two hours for dinner, we think they forgot about us!
Great place. Restaurant was quiet. Servers a little eager to help and took my wife’s meal before she had finished! None the less - great place, food, cocktails!
Thank goodness for Le Charlot in Southampton. It’s always very good, and a pretty place for French fare.
Terrible service with a rude waitress who slammed my dish down thereby splashing sauce over the table. All because I had the temerity to ask for refills of the five empty water and wine glasses on our table as well as the bread we’d asked for 30 minutes prior.
She said she was the only server. She said they were off season and couldn’t find anyone to work. All fine. Not sure why her contempt manifested itself afterwards.
We still never got the bread.
Le Charlot is our go to place in Southampton and New York. We always have great food, great service and an all around wonderful time.
the steak in my steak au poivre was veiny. sauce and fries great
Great Time, great food!
What happened to wait staff? Waiter not attentive. Waiter also put a bottle of peligrino on the table after I ordered tap water and refused the peligrino.
Table wasn’t bussed either.
I have dined here about 6 times but this will be the last visit off season. Maybe I will give it a shot when the better staff returns next summer.
What a lovely restaurant we have with a dependable, light French menu
Unbelievably bad service
Small, intimate, and a perfect blend of French cuisine geared toward American palettes. Perfect for lunch or dinner.
Thanks to Thierry my daughters and I love to come here :))
Waited almost an hour for entree. Very good when it arrived.
Food was mixed, mussels and steak and soup salad very good; chicken curry very over cooked and dry. Second time tried, both times dry and inedible, suggest chef try dark meat or test it again
Had a lovely lunch outside this weekend. Our waiter was very sweet and helpful. Food was great.
Although a small menu it serves fresh, delicious food especially if you love clean French food.
Service is impeccable and the staff is warm and friendly without being all over you.
They also are concerned about any allergies and modify food to address them.
Delicious food and excellent service, even on a busy Saturday night.
nice French bistro with good food. The mussels were excellent.
Nice place with good food and calm ambiance. Nice outdoor seating
The menu changed and is very limited. Not many options especially for a vegetarian. What we ordered was good but I don’t know if I’d rush to go back.
Our most recent visit to Le Charlot was disappointing -- especially following a good dinner there two weeks earlier. Unaccountably, they had cut a lot of dinner items, including all the pastas, off their menu since our last visit and they had NOT adjusted online menus to reflect this since I specifically checked before bringing friends there. The waiter had no clue why and I never got to ask the manager. We got there 8:15 or so and ultimately waited almost 45 minutes for our dinner, even though it wasn't that crowded when we arrived. By the time we left, it was more crowded and appallingly noisy -- hard to even have a conversation. My husband liked his mussels and one of our guests said his steak was good, but the burgers were uninspiring - thin, bland patties with very little flavor. With great burgers now so ubiquitous, it was surprising to see these -- although I will say their fries are great. Here's hoping they expand the menu back. If so, we will definitely give it another try.
Very nice dinner. Service was attentive and quick. Menu is not huge but both our dinners were very good. Fun spot right in the middle of town.
Very good service from the general manager. Excellent grass fed burger and Thai mussels. However, surprised to see a charge of $12 per bottle of Pellegrino sparking, that is quite exorbitant and easily overcharging the consumer. Otherwise, would re-visit.
Although the manager and waiter apologized and removed a meal and brought is dessert, the kitchen forgot our main course. We waited almost am hr between appetizer and main course. The waiter finally acknowledged that they didn’t pull our ticket. Salmon arrived uncooked and chicken paillard cold.
We had a good experience mid week after 9 PM when the restaurant was probably about half full. The service was great and the food very good. I had the vegetarian pasta which was excellent and my husband had the mussels with frites. Excellent fries although he felt the mussels could have used more garlic. As a bread eater, I appreciated that they still serve (very good) bread on request. The biggest negative, as with virtually all restaurants in the Hamptons, was noise; hard to talk even with the place just half full. Still it’s a solid option in Southampton and particularly good if you want a lighter meal.
Very disappointed with the food. We had heard it wasn't great, so stayed away for years. We finally decided to give it a try - we should have listened to the rumors. Mussels were tasteless; artichoke also totally mediocre; steak au poivre was almost inedible for my husband - half of the steak was gristle. The chicken curry was ok, but nothing special. For the price, the entire meal was totally unsatisfactory. Would not go back and certainly wouldn't recommend. We couldn't get out of there fast enough.
Le Charlot is our go to place. The staff is always friendly, and the food is always wonderful. There is rarely a time that we go that we dont run into many other friends!
Food wasn't bad, but not much was really French. (I don't count French fries as French.) Service was excellent and the owner friendly and caring. This place is very much a part of the Hamptons scene. That can be very cool if you're into it. Perhaps not the best place if you're not.
Be prepared to wait, service is very slow, but the food was good!
Overall, ext price was very good. Food was excellent. Price fixe offers great value. Service was quite slow for no apparent reason, this is the only negative.
Excellent service and a great meal. Nice selection of wine as well
Great service mussels and avocado app excellent
The food here is very good - Authentic French - Prices are of - but the wine is OUTRAGIOUSLY expenseive - the cheapest glass is $18 and the cheapest bottle is $52 - and they usually don’t have the lower priced bottles - so you can expect to have to purchase a $75 bottle.
Also we were there on a weeknight with only 2 other tables occupies and we waited 1.25 hours just for the first course/appetizers to be served - dinner reservations were 6:30 - we left at 9:30!!!
Went for an early dinner during restaurant week. There were few dinners so noise level was acceptable, however with the closeness of tables the experience on a busy weekend night would most likely be very different. Restaurant week pricing was reasonable for quality of the food, however, regular menu prices seamed high.
Fantastic food and service. Our first time there. Everything was delicious. I had the moules and there were amazing. My only, only wish is that they would add one or two local ales to the beer list. The wine list, however is fantastic.
We wanted French and the options are few unfortunately in the Hamptons. So we gave it a try. The only thing French here is the name. The food was mediocre at best and generally tasted as if it were sourced from the frozen food section at Shop Rite or canned. I ordered the cassoulet which had sausages that tasted no better than frozen Jones breakfast sausages. My wife had cod which was tasteless and an overly fried potato croquet which was so fried you could not taste the potato. It sat in a slop of tomato sauce which was we would guess from a jar. The appetizer was artichoke which was OK but nothing exciting. The atmosphere was not French. A large screen TV blasts behind the bar. The service was adequate. No bread. A nice crispy baguette would have been welcome but it never came. Way overpriced. We expected big $ in the Hamptons but we also expected quality.
I just love the way you make every patron feel special!
The food and drink eveything we wated and more!!
