Portia, our friendly and able server, knew how to describe oysters, which is rare. The food was what you would have eaten in a popular bistro in a French secondary city. It might have arrived a bit hotter.
The restaurant is much quieter and more pleasant with physical distancing.
Le Diplomate always does a wonderful job! Every dish on the menu is exceptional. The staff is friendly, and helps to make the experience always a special one. It is my favorite restaurant in Washington.
I’ve never had a bad meal at Le Diplomate. The restaurant is a little too loud indoors and outdoors, and the hostesses need to be reminded good manners are not the price of efficiency. The food and table service are some of the best in town.
I went for a late dinner with my friend Stephen to celebrate my birthday. My onion soup was delicious, and he enjoyed the warm shrimp salad....but the entrees left much to be desired. I was served lukewarm mussels with French fries that were bordering on cold. He was underwhelmed with his seared scallops. Neither of us finished our dinners. But we did have dessert to celebrate my birthday.
Love the outdoor seating booths. The food and the service were excellent
Delicious food, beautiful ambiance reminiscent of a French bistro. Service was great, too.
Enjoying a breakfast
Excellent food and service
Le Diplomate is always a great place to visit, but this most recent visit was exceptional. Our server, Sean, was a delight and took good care of us. The whole place is set up to keep everybody safe during covid, which was greatly appreciated. And, as always, the food was fantastic. If you can, try the foie gras parfait!
I ordered the scallops and when they arrived they were not hot and it seemed that they had been sitting around for a while. I should’ve asked for another but my friends mussels were good and I didn’t delay the meal. Actually, scallops tasted old and the entire dish was lukewarm. Hi I’m kicking myself for not speaking up. It wasn’t up to their standards as I’ve had the scallops many times before.
The server did not bring a spoon with the mussels and after we asked for a spoon, it did not arrive immediately. She was not very efficient.
Le Diplomate is our favorite restaurant....beautiful ambiance, excellent food and great service. It doesn't get any better than that!
Always consistently good on food and service. Great ambience. Mosquitos a problems outdoors so need to mitigate this.
Amazing food and service and the outdoor setting is wonderful
Very enjoyable experience, superb food!
This was my first time going to Le Dip and the food lived up to its hype! We got the onion soup and escargot for appetizers, the duck and steak frites for entrees, and the Malbec, frose, and Chardonnay for drinks. The environment was great in the enclosed streatery table. It was loud due to being on busy 14th, but that’s to be expected. Pricey, but worth it!
Absolutely amazing. Honestly probably one of the best restaurants I've ever been to in DC. My wife, a very picky eater, even tried the Escargot and really liked it. Will definitely be coming back.
Our waitress Sirone(not aire about spelling) was amazing!!! She went above and beyond to make our dining experience amazing.
I usually give Le Diplomate a 5 star rating but couldn’t this time because of one dish. The duck, beef bourguignon and scallops were all excellent. But my husband’s soft shell crabs were not up to the restaurant’s standards—too much breading and dry/over cooked.
Le Dip has done an amazing job creating outdoor space. Food and service was great - actually enjoyed it more than when we would eat inside. Can't wait to go back.
Management is serious and somewhat aggressive about the hour and a half limit that is currently being imposed. Can probably guess why but it does make the whole (expensive) experience feel too rushed.
Excellent food and service as always. Great ambience. But no Valet parking !
I wish we knew sooner.I had the Trout almondine , excellent. My wife loves the half chicken,I do too. The escargot was excellent.
I wish I can find a French restaurant that will serve a good Pot au Feu !
Fabulous food & an incredibly smart, skilled, schmoozey server - Michael. My friend & I truly enjoyed ourselves & felt totally COVID safe. We’ll be back!
Loved everything we got!
When we told the manager we were celebrating a birthday (also stated in our reservation) his only response was to vacate the table in 5 minutes as we were over our time. This despite it taking them over an hour after arriving fir appetizers to arrive. Very poor hospitality they only want your $.
Another great experience at Le Diplomate! I love their outside area and the food was incredible, as well as the service. I will definitely be coming back.
The dining experience is always excellent, but I love Le Diplomate even more after getting to hang with a group of friends in the COVID-19 heated outdoor booth set-up.
Enjoyed brunch in the outdoor area.
The food was as amazing as always, even though some of our favorites were not on the reduced COVID brunch menu. We ate outside in one of their dining "cabanas" which felt extremely safe and comfortable (it even had a heater!). It was clear that they have a lot of COVID protocols in place to keep everyone safe, yet still allow for an enjoyable experience. The staff was attentive and friendly and we really enjoyed our meal. If you like delicious food and want a safe and comfortable outdoor COVID dining experience, look no further!
Awesome date after being stuck inside for all of COVID
Great safe setup outdoors with heaters in chilly waather and well protected from the rain.
Everything was delightful but the 90 minute limit seemed a little rushed for a fine dining experience.
We have been many times and it was as good as akway. Our favorite place.
Always amazing - Le Diplomate really took outdoor dining to a new level with their blue and white booths. The traffic on 14th street is loud, but that’s out of the restaurants control.
Fantastic experience overall! Food expensive but worth it. Service phenomenal
Great set up great experience delicious food!
Frequent diner to Le Dip - first time sitting in one of the outdoor vestibules and it was perfect for my party of 4.
Where to begin? From service to food, the entire experience was an absolute nightmare. Was mortified to be bringing family for first time after hyping for so many years. 3 steak frites were so fatty they were inedible. The scallops (my favorite dish) had me spending the night over the toilet. The waiters greeting to us upon sitting was “you have two and a half hours for your reservation so let’s get drinks in please” i had to repeatedly ask for the table water carafe to be refilled on four separate occasions (after sitting empty for ages multiple times). Twice when finally get the waiters attention he walked away while I was still speaking. Dinner was north of $700 and not even a thanks for coming in from waiter- I’m not sure he said a single nice thing our entire visit? While LD has been pretentious in the past, at least it had food to back up the pretension. Luckily, the fantastic company made up for an otherwise abysmal birthday dinner. Being a neighborhood local, I’ve been coming to le dip for years. After last week? I’ll never go back. Too many amazing new culinary experiences to justify the terrible treatment and atrocious service.
My husband and I are fans of Le Diplomate. We especially like to go there to celebrate special occasions and the servers always recognize those occasions.
We had a lovely outdoor table.
Le Diplomat does a very good steak frites with the steak cooked perfectly. This time the steak, the frites and the spinach we ordered were heavily salted.
Lè Diplomate use to be the place in DC. Honestly it can stay a distant memory- totally not the same. It took us 20 minutes to get greeted after we sat and another 10 to receive our bottle water and another 15 for lemons. We ordered appetizers and entrees and several drinks. Not a cautious tab should have been more engaged. Terrible.
Loved it!! So perfect!
