Once we were seated, everything was great. The food was wonderful and our server was awesome! However, our meal started off on the wrong foot because the hostess gave us major attitude. It was enough that it impacted the overall experience of our entire meal. We’ve been to le dip plenty of times and never had an experience like this. I would hate to have this be someone’s first time visiting and be turned off from visiting again because their first impression was the rude behavior of the front staff.
We felt like we were on an assembly line. Food is really good, but didn’t feel welcome. This isn a cheap restaurant and It just wasn’t a good experience.
We had a great time.
Cold reception. Perfunctory service. Safe seating. Excellent food.
We made reservations for a very early dinner dining outdoors to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We ran into unexpected street construction and delays so were running late by about 15 minutes or so. I became a bit unnerved and so called to give a heads up on our later arrival time. The hostess told me that they can only hold our reservations for 15 minutes and then after that we would be welcome to put our name on the list for the next available table. This added to our anxiety and rush to get there. We arrived 16 minutes after our reservation time feeling more anxious than relaxed only to discover that we were easily seated as the tables were never more than half full our whole time there. When I called a good hostess would have said something more along the lines of “our policy is only to hold reservations for 15 minutes but you shouldn’t have any troubles this afternoon being seated and we look forward to seeing you when you arrive.”
The hostess reception was devoid of any warmth or hospitality. The attitude seems to be that they were doing us a favor to dine there. Very off putting.
We’ve dined here several times pre-pandemic and the food was as wonderful as ever. The fantastic breads, warm shrimp salad, the trout almandine, the chicken, and vanilla bean creme brûlée were all perfect. The waiter was efficient and fine but not warm in anyway. At the end his “thanks for spending your birthday with us” was so devoid of sincerity that it would have been better had he said nothing.
Curious. Are you having servers use pepper grinders during the pandemic? I actually think that would be more sanitary than having the server handle a set of salt and pepper shakers as he/she brings them to the table. Then the diner touches them. Just asking.
Amazing food, disappointing service.
I would give this DC institution a second try based on reputation rather than experience.
Very nice dining experience in one of their great “pop-up” pods along 14th street. Our server was top notch - very friendly, personable and knowledgeable. Thanks and we look forward to coming back soon.
The food and drinks were excellent as always. My one complaint is COVID sucks! Apparently with dining restrictions in place they are limiting your dining experience to 1 1/2 hours. No lingering or letting your food settle.
Great afternoon! Food was delicious, service was excellent.
Best outdoor dining for Covid times. They have open stalls or you can sit out in the covered patio or just outside with not covering when it’s nice and sunny. Food is always great.
I ordered Mushroom Tart and it was really nice, would recommend for people who want to try authentic French food
Great classic French food! A new classic favorite restaurant for us in DC!
Nice ambiance. Enough din to make it interesting but allowable for convo. Food was fantastic. Thanks
My food has consistently been fairly bland - definitely not worth the price, ingredients can't be fresh/seasonal because the menu doesn't change. There are way better places in DC to go for a special night out.
Made reservation days in advance but they put us outside in the cold. Had been there before and dined in their outside box city. Not sure why they wanted a frequent customer to freeze. Really uncomfortable and disappointing.
Loved the ambience and the food. A little salty, but delicious. So thoughtful to bring out an extra anniversary treat.
Outdoor stables really allowed for a comfortable experience even in 40 degree weather.
Went here for lunch on a Monday before flying back home & it was just what we needed. A little piece of Paris in the middle of DC. Escargot is a must. SO good. The tuna carpaccio was also delicious & the burger was magnifique! Can't wait to go back!
It was such a delightful treat! Would highly recommend. Felt very safe
They have really figured out the covid protocols while still providing an enjoyable experience. Love the single-party outdoor stalls, excellent service and great food.
Friend 40th bday
Great but the place needs a redo
We had a great meal as always. Le Diplomat continues to be our all time favorite. Going for lunch again today!
Consistently excellent service and food and great Covid adaptations!
Love the warm shrimp salad and salmon carpaccio. Excellent service and plenty of distance for inside dining. Love this restaurant.
LeDip is my favorite restaurant in DC and I’ve been there many times. Yesterday was not up to their standard in service or food. The waiter did not seem on top of our order. Our drink didn’t come until 3 reminders, the appetizer came after the entree was served, and was cold by the time we ate it, we had to ask for salt and pepper several times before the waiter finally brought it.
The manager did intervene and bring several items and also apologized and comped some of the bill.
We will return to the restaurant and trust that the waiter and/or kitchen was having a bad day.
We enjoyed the food and drinks, but found the experience to be not worth the cost, as we were urged out exactly 90 minutes after our reservation time. To be fair, this was clearly outlined to us beforehand, but we weren’t able to fully enjoy the experience and felt rushed. At that price point, I don’t think it is worth returning until capacity and restrictions return to normal.
The heaters in the chalets were not working
It was outside and cold but really great. Server was awesome
Cold, very cold.
Outside was not heated well and the food was cold...
Le Diplomate has always been one of our favorite dining places in DC. It continues to be so with their outside dining options and their safety protocols. We dined in one of the little "cabanas." It was 30ºF outside, but we were kept warm. We have never had a bad meal at Le Diplomate. I would highly recommend Le Diplomate especially if you are still practicing COVID safety measures and need to celebrate a nice event such as an anniversary or a birthday.
Easy reservation process, the restaurant is very clear about restrictions and limitations in COVID times. The food is still as amazing as ever!
Amazing meal per usual, love the ambiance of the restaurant. Great service.
We had a great family brunch there yesterday. Service was wonderful, and the food is always outstanding. Thanks for another wonderful visit!
Such a great experience and food was amazing. The warm shrimp salad is my favorite. Lola was our server and made our experience!!
Never disappoints! Best most reliable food in DC.
The outdoor sitting was colder then expected. Small heaters on top, but not enough to get us warm. Definitely not comfortable for children. The food and the service was incredible though. All meals were delicious! I would definitely go back another time to sit inside.
Always great! Service was a little slow but that has never been a problem before.
Love the outdoor seating! Had a great cappuccino, however, I was disappointed to find out they only serve chocolate croissants during their brunch on the weekends, which is what I ultimately went for to have w my capp.So I’ll to say overall the experience was just good.
