I am frustrated as I booked a table for my friends and I to meet here for lunch online. The booking was successful - but when we turned up the restaurant was closed! No one told me this was going to happen. Very frustrating.
I was told that the place was under new management and no longer checked their Open Table bookings. Didn't end up dining at the place. Need a 'Report' button on restaurant listings
I won't go there again. I have visited this restaurant 3 or 4 times previously and booked via their website which was confirmed by email. However when we arrived they were closed, they made no apology about the fact that we had a reservation.
I can recommend the Greek restaurant across the road called Vasis, very good food and service !!
The food was ok (I did not find it as salty as other reviewers complained for) and just enough innovative to make it intriguing. Our waitress was very attentive, kind and friendly. The restaurant was basically empty (it was us and another table) which is strange given the nice food and setting. The tables are far too small for the plates and that can get very annoying at one point. It is worth a visit if in the area.
Good food and wine but awkward to be the only people there
My friends wanted to try a little Middle Eastern cuisine, and as I had visited Le Menar a few months previously - and had enjoyed my time there. I thought let's give it try.
We were given a nice large table on the top floor, which was a space all to ourselves. The waitress was very attentive and offer to let us try the electronic shisha for free, we decided not to go for it as it was £25 for one pipe! A little steep I thought, and not near as good to the traditional smoking pipe!
I had actually forgotten exactly how salty the food is!!! I don’t think I will be dining here again.
I took clients here for lunch. We were the only table in there but the menu was extensive and interesting and service was good. The chef came and checked on us a couple of times too. The food was excellent - really delicious, good sized portions and well presented. Flat bread was provided free of charge.
Seems to be more of an evening place, they might benefit from doing a set lunch menu to attract local workers, but would definitely recommend.
We went to Le Menar for a catch up dinner. It was very quiet in there. We were given a table at the front which was not ideal as it was cold when the front door was left open.
Food wise, it was nice but nothing special.
Other than the decent service there's nothing to recommend here. First off - the seating might be authentic but is all wrong for comfortable eating - low banquettes and chairs, tiny tin tray style tables that the various plates balanced precariously on, we were hunched over trying not to drop anything in our laps. We had 3 tray tables to spread the mezze and plates for 4 people, one decent table would have made more sense!
Our starter was pleasant mezze affair but nothing standout, and the main course mixed grill had nice lamb chops but everything else was inedible. Way too much salt but also some meat had a weird taste, very off putting and all four of us felt the same so it wasn't down to personal taste.
The place was dead - this was just off Charlotte street on a lovely Friday evening in April. Says it all really. Could be so much better if they addressed these issues.
Delicious food and attentive service.
It was very empty, which was a shame. Not sure why as the food is incredible.
On first impression, Le Menar is a step in to the Middle East. The service is good, the staff is attentive, the tables are a little small – the two of us struggled to fit our plates and glasses on the small round table. However, the waiter was very apologetic about the inconvenience caused.
Overall, dining a Le Menar is a pleasant experience. As you are free to sit and enjoy your meal and drinks without a turnaround time on the table, which is great if you just want to have a chilled out, kick-back kinda evening!
The food is good, but very salty!
We went for a casual meal on Valentines Day. We were met with a long stem rose on the table and free oysters! It was a set menu with options to choose from, however instead of the expected 3 courses, we got 5!
The food was excellent, with a mixture of traditional and modern Moroccan dishes. A lovely experience..
Excellent and varied food drawn from across north africa and the middle east. Particularly enjoyed the lamb proscuitto, okra and pomegranate salad, and all the tagines -- each had a rich and distinct flavour. The wine list is short, and they were out of a couple of the listed bottles (including the only Moroccan white), but the two bottles we did try---from the two ends of the price range---were respectable. Two negatives on our visit: service was inattentive, scattershot and bordering on glacial even though the restaurant was half-full at best; and the heaters were turned up to the point of discomfort.
The food was excellent - fresh, well seasoned and generous portions. The service was a bit slow but given that we were not in a hurry, this was not a problem. The only problem was with the tables which were too small to accommodate the food.
A twist on traditional Middle Eastern food - the meze meny had some great surprises. Highly recommend
fresh and creative reciepies of food tremendous atmosphere and music just loved everything about it and def. gonna go there again
Outstanding Moroccan restaurant with very well selected wine list. The lamb tagine was the best I've ever had. It's completely worth the short walk from the restaurants of Charlotte Street and is phenomenal value for money. A hidden gem and highly recommended.
Arrived to find no one in the venue. Was seated upstairs where there was a great set up with see through roof. Was great to have the chef come and check on how we enjoyed the food. Bit pricey but definitely worth it considering central London location. Overall great experience.
May be have some tables which are higher! Staff were excellent. Wine bit expensive but good. Excellent food and great service.
Little known place close to Charlotte Street.
Great for a relaxed dinner with very decent food and shisha
