We went expecting something nice and got far more. Wonderful ambience, delicious food, and a cheerful hostess, Julia. Everyone was nice. We ordered cured kingfish, seafood linguine, gnocchi, fish of the day, sorbeto and gelato. Every bite has kept me reeling even now. And without a doubt the beat bread and chips on the side Exquisite Exquisite Exquisite!!!

Melbourne CBD
About the restaurant
Located on Spring St, opposite the Treasury Gardens, between Collins St and Flinders Lane, there emerges a truly unique space – imagined, created, curated – that lies at the nexus of all the Di Stasio energies that have come before it. Cittá is a culmination of sorts, a vibrant dynamic next step along a continuum of a challenge and of notions Rinaldo has been grappling with all his life. This is not only a commercial venture – though of course, he has never retreated from this aspect – but is also a vehicle to express and bring together all the aspects of Italo-Australian history, culture, place and heritage. It is an opportunity too to bring a long-standing dream to further fruition, celebrating Rinaldo’s influence on the Australian hospitality, cultural and artistic landscape, through a renewed celebration of Melbourne and the CBD where it all began and of his beloved spiritual and familial home, Italy.

Di Stasio has becpome our 'go to' for birthday celebrations for the past few years. The staff are very good. Prompt, efficient and knowledeable. The food is magnificent. Just love it. I love the person in the water on the wall, but I reckon we could get an update on the bearded guy on the other wall. Perhaps a couple walking and chatting?

Carlton
About the restaurant
A lockdown obsession for Rinaldo Di Stasio and Mallory Wall, Di Stasio Pizzeria is poised to open in Carlton in mid-November. The third venue for the high-profile restaurateur couple sits behind the King and Godfree complex on the corner of Lygon and Faraday streets and has glamorous echoes of their Di Stasio Citta pleasure palace in the city. Designed by architect Di Ritter of Hassell, also responsible for Citta, the pizzeria has three separate spaces inside, adorned with Reko Rennie artwork and Shaun Gladwell sculptures, and a courtyard bar centred around a fountain imported from the Roman countryside. Chef Federico Congiu, who has worked with Di Stasio for five years, is making his own jersey milk mozzarella fiore di latte for the pizzas. Congiu has sourced five growers around the Yarra Valley to grow and preserve San Marzano tomatoes for pizza toppings and is having special durum wheat flour milled in Tamworth.

The food was excellent but portion sizes were poor and had to be supplemented with “sides” that were, as always, grossly overpriced. My friend and I were both anxious to enjoy some fresh Tasmanian crayfish, but at $150 for a 500 gm serving we soon opted for something less expensive. The Coral Trout was beautiful, but again, so overpriced. I do not mind paying for quality food and service but the prices being charged for local seafood cannot be justified and it irks me that the justification always seems to be that Asian tourists will pay whatever is asked to enjoy quality Australian seafood which in turn makes it cost prohibitive for Australian residents. I also found it most unusual that there was no bread of any description on the table, no rolls, no bread, nothing. As with the exorbitantly priced food, drinks were equally expensive. I enjoyed the experience, the food lovely, but the prices were well and truly over the top and I’d have to say, I wouldn’t return, the are many seafood restaurants in Melbourne that are far cheaper and offer food that is equally as good.

About the restaurant
Here at Zafferano, we like to keep things a little old school, from sourcing to serving, our key values remain.
Simone, the Head Chef and co-owner of Zafferano grew up inside the kitchen of his family's restaurant in Porticello, Sicily and brings that passion and authenticity to his food.
We combine local, fresh, seasonal ingredients with passion and tradition, to create a menu that is endlessly devoted to flavour and quality. We have a love for food, for the whole experience. We believe in celebrating just how powerful food can be, from the seed to the plate. Because connection through food is our mission.
Our space is intimate with only 38 seats and the overall vibe of the restaurant really transports you to Sicily with an outdoor courtyard that feels like a traditional Italian piazza.
We have a few signature dishes however the Risotto Marinara & Spaghetti Marinara are definitely at the for front of our menu.

My family and I are regulars at Zafferano. The food of a typical Sicilian fare is excellent. All ingredients are fresh and the pastas are to die for. I am of Sicilian background at it better than Nonna’s. Simone and Bella are beautiful hosts and happy to chat or advise the daily specials and wine to food blends. Highly recommend.

Our entire experience from booking to being late (I called ahead) was perfect. Then we arrived and were greeted so warmly. I’m autistic and super sound sensitive and it was so easy to be there. I was so grateful for the incredible and attentive service and the genuine nature of the staff. We weren’t rushed, we were given time, the wine was perfect, the food was divine - beef tartare, beef carpaccio, rocket and pear salad, the 400g prime rib, the truffle fries. It was all divine. We genuinely had such a wonderful time and that beef tartare and the prime rib was an absolute stand out. I would 100% recommend Vintaged to everyone I know for a truly special experience with kind and attentive staff. Thank you for our perfect date night. It was divine.
