The Elgin’s 4 main principals, Peter Pernicone, Darwin Conner, Paul Baum & Christine Trauben, have known each other for 30 years. They all grew up on the lower west side of NYC in Chelsea & had a goal of owning a bar together & could not be more excited about opening The Elgin. As an acknowledgment of their collective history, they named a signature cocktail—the Chelsea 1724—after their neighborhood. Darwin & Paul grew up in Chelsea on 17th St and Peter & Christine lived on 24th St. They are joined by Patrick Callaghan who has been working with Peter for many years.

I have been to catch at least a half a dozen times and the food and the service everything has been wonderful But tonight the service was just terrible. We sat at our table for about 20 to 25 minutes before we even got a waiter to come over and take our order. same problem when needing the check. I really don’t understand why it was this way because the restaurant was actually pretty empty tonight or at least the fourth floor as we ate outside

My family and I had an amazing experience. When we walked in and mentioned our reservation, we were seated at our table right away. The waiter kept checking on us as needed to make sure everything was ok and if we needed anything. The bus staff cleared the empty dishes and glasses as needed. The manager checked on us as well to make sure we were good. There was live entertainment that was amazing, we thought it was a record or just music playing in the restaurant at first, we then saw the singer with the microphone and were amazed.

I was seated and served quickly and my food came out fast. Shrimp Cocktail presented well and nice large shrimp. Asparagus should have been trimmed better as the lower portion was not feasible. Main pasta dish was good.
