About the restaurant
Come dine in this beautifully restored Uptown restaurant on Magazine Street and enjoy James Beard Award Winning Chef Justin Devillier's contemporary Louisiana Cuisine.

The La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the history of its home, a building that’s stood for more than a century. The original structure was built in the late 1800s and called the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot. In 1908, a fire devastated the space and it was transformed into a full service grocery store. Later it was most notably a fine foods and butcher shop, VonderHaar’s Fine Foods until 1982. When La Petite Grocery opened in March of 2004, they similarly aspired to provide the neighborhood with exotic teas, locally roasted coffee, and fresh produce. By doing this, we hope to provide a dining experience that evokes nostalgia of old New Orleans. Reservations are preferred.

This is a great neighborhood gem that was referred to me. I'm visiting from California and my colleague lives in D.C. The location is great, very charming. We arrived at 7:55 p.m. for an 8:00 p.m. reservation. The hostess said it would be about 5 minutes to be seated. We sat at the bar, ordered a cocktail, made some nice conversation with the two bartenders, finished our drinks and it was almost 8:20 p.m. The hostess walked by and we stopped her and asked if our table was ready, she looked surprised and said,"Oh, okay, just a minute." She then seated us. The server was outstanding - great guy, personable and attentive (maybe Chris??). We ordered tuna tartar and grilled oysters, which were both great and also shared the ravioli dish - also delicious. Then my hubby had a steak and I ordered the salmon, asking that it be fully cooked, not transparent. It arrived undercooked and the server very pleasantly took it back to the kitchen. The second order was also under cooked - and I mean by a lot. At that time I had two glasses of wine, hubby was done with dinner so I passed on getting a third order. The server obviously removed the salmon dish from our bill and was quite apologetic. So, he was the one that made the dinner get the better rating, had it not been for him it would have been a 1-star rating.

We enjoyed dining at the Bourbon House. We reached on time and informed the hostess. It took around 10 min to get us seated , but that allowed us to view the bourbon bottles at the entrance. We checked with the hostess again and were then seated. The instructions I had left for my wife’s birthday were followed without me repeating them and she was given a card and a hat to celebrate. The place is large on the inside , although it does not feel like it from the outside. It also has great ambience as against what you would expect from outside. It has a nice looking bar at the entrance but larger seating space with tall ceilings on the inside and a lobby bar at the back. We had opted for standard seating. Leslie waited on us and she was wonderful in suggesting options, making sure we had our food and drinks brought out on time and finally surprised us with the team singing Happy Birthday for my wife. Great place and highly recommend when in New Orleans.

I love Antoine’s and have enjoyed it several times yearly for over 40 years. Enjoyed my Oyster Rockefeller, but very surprised to find they have changed the recipe for the Rockefeller sauce. This is an old family secret recipe unchanged for many decades. It is now lighter and mushy with less of a spicy ‘bite’. Still good but just not as special as it has always been.

I recently visited Fogo de Chao for my birthday, and while the overall experience was enjoyable, there were a few aspects that kept it from being a perfect 5-star evening. I want to thank the manager for promptly addressing the concerns we had during our visit. It was reassuring to see that feedback is taken seriously. The food was quite good, and some dishes truly stood out. However, the service was inconsistent. While some staff members were attentive and pleasant, others were not as welcoming, which affected the overall atmosphere. Additionally, a bit more attention to the small details in the décor could enhance the dining experience. Despite these minor issues, I still had a memorable evening and would recommend Fogo de Chao for a nice meal. With a few improvements, I’m sure it could become a top dining destination. I look forward to giving it another try in the future.

The food was ok. Fried soft shell crab is definitely an acquired taste. The calamari was chewy and not hot. The seafood pasta was the best thing on the menu and recommended by my sever. I would order that again in a heartbeat. The cocktails were nothing special and very watered down.
