The food was delicious and an excellent value.
We came at a very busy time. The wait staff seemed to be overwhelmed while putting in a valiant effort. Our waiter told us that she was serving a total of twenty tables shared with a partner waitress. Too much!
I hate having to shout to be heard in a resaurant. To say that the noise level is "energetic" is an understatemnt by far.
We will return but will aim for a time that is not apt to be so crowded or noisey.
This restaurant is worth visiting again and again. Not because their food was beyond reproach, but rather that management has a true interest in running a top notch dining establishment. I say this after I had a brief conversation with the manager about my food being slightly overcooked. Not only did he listen closely, but he also showed a deep interest with the questions he asked and the solutions he offered about my minor annoyance. But, hey, let’s talk about the food and service.
The skillet cornbread is a wonderful appetizer to share with your table of friends, but you’re going to want to keep it all for yourself. It comes with a crispy and slightly sugared top, but the insides are light, warm and delicious. Ask for extra honey butter, because you’re going to want more and more! The crab cake salad and huge 8 oz burger were beyond tasty. Top that with a server who anticipates when your drink needs refilled, so you don’t have to wait or even ask. She also stopped by several times during the evening to see if we needed ANYTHING! We’ll definitely be back!
Good food at resonable prices, a little loud near bar area, very conductive to large groups
and a fun place to go if you are in Laguna Beach going to the Pageant etc. Highly recommended and who go again. Fantastic Turkey sandwich with Au jus.
Every thing was OK once we got a proper table. The manager came over and made sure we knew what we were getting because we did have a special request. That was awesome. However the hostess needs to be retrained because she sat two Large individuals tat perhaps the tiniest darkest table in the place. We had to asked to be moved and that’s embarrassing to the customer. Size up your customer seat them where they will be comfortable… That’s a no-brainer.
I don’t know how they do it. Everything is perfect every time. The wait staff are all so helpful. The food is delicious. I only eat outside on the patio. I don’t know what the inside is like but it looks dark and stuffy to me. Also about twice as expensive.
Great food, drinks and ambiance for a fun and lively evening!
Wonderful staff. Made it fun and the food was really good. Everyone was happy with their choices.
I had said there were three birthdays when making the reservation but there was no mention of it so we just ordered our desserts anyway.
I would go back and recommend it to friends.
Salmon, flat iron steak, ahi tuna were delicious. Very prompt service as well. Perfect dinner prior to attending the Pageant of the Masters.
Reservation was for 7:15 on a Sat night and seated on time, busy loud place. Service was good at first then we got forgotten about soon after ordering main entree, I noticed parties of 4 were getting their food entrees in the dining area way faster than us. My college age daughter noticed it was taking way too long . A team member told us they were busy after us sitting for an hour and how it took over 30 min for our food to come thru. I would have liked an update from any staff before that just to tell us what’s going on . The entrees were delicious I has crusted sole! Amazing and my daughter had penne also delicious and I would go back. But i would advise asking what the wait time is from the kitchen.
Our server Jeanie was absolutely charming and added to the enjoyment of our evening.
As always, service was great, food was delicious!
The Lumberyard never disappoints. The food is always great and the staff is great.
place is money. party of 6 and we had everything from Salmon to Fried Chicken Sandwhich. All great.
Lumberyard was a perfect choice before the Pageant of the Masters. There were three of us, and we had an appetizer, three entrees, a bottle of wine, and a dessert all for a reasonable price (under $150).
Restaurant noise level was extreme. Impossible to carry on a conversation.
Great experience! Food was delicious! Service was awesome! It was perfect before Pageant of the Masters! No waiting, no worry that we would run out of time! We walked to the show! Definitely coming back!
We had reservations and were sat quickly. The restaurant was pretty full. We sat for at least 10 minutes before anyone approached the table. The waitress said she’d be back. Probably 15 minutes to get water. Finally ordered drinks , even though we were ready for her to take our food order as well. Finished my glass of wine before dinner came and nobody came back to ask if we wanted more water, had to ask for more iced tea and when the food came we asked for larger waters so we didn’t have to wait. Everyone enjoyed their meals, Cobb salad, chicken , steak , chicken sandwich. Fries were warmish with the sandwich . Ordered dessert to go and at the same time our check so we wouldn’t have to wait again. Waitress was nice enough, hostesses were very helpful. Will probably go back, just don’t plan on being done in under 2 hours for 4 people.
We ate dinner there before the Pageant of the Masters with my elderly dad whose birthday is this week. He has a walker and the hostess was so sweet to find a good spot for us to sit and park it, by a window so we were away from the noisiest area. The food was good…entrees and salads are generous and flavorful. It was a busy night at the restaurant but service was quick and responsive.
Outstanding food and service. Noise level was a little high but we were inside near the bar.
Overall great experience with exception of spotty service. This may be due to restaurant being short staffed possibly like many are currently.
We were there prior to attending Pageant of the Masters—an annual event for us. The Lumberyard is always a favorite spot with great food, service, etc., and easy proximity to the show. Their Sole special we outstanding, and there’s a great variety of entrees and price levels! As out-of-towners, we love The Lumberyard!
Sorry to say, but food was ho hum and the noise level extremely high. Granted we are older, but wow nit enjoyable for us.
Yummy, lovely patio, great service, we'll be back!
The meatloaf was a hit. The bacon was nice and smoky. I’d eat a whole plate of bacon next time. It was nice sitting outside with live band. Indoor dining seemed loud.
Local restaurant that I can always count on for great food!
Great food and drinks! Our service was outstanding after a little wait when we first sat down at our table. We order the zucchini planks for our appetizer- crispy and tasty! Definitely recommend. The salmon and chicken pot pie for our entrées. The salmon was seasoned perfectly and served with with some yellow potatoes that tasted like the holidays. The chicken pot pie came out piping hot was filled with nice creamy base, and a good serving of fresh vegetables and chicken. The crust was not my favorite as I prefer a more flaky crust. However, I would still recommend. Its a large portion, be hungry or split the meal with a friend.
The best corn bread and chicken pot pie I have ever had!
My meal was cold they had to heat it up. But it was ok after they heated it up
Wait staff was great. Meatloaf was excellent.
I will be back.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience on the patio at the Lumberyard! Great service, delicious food and a very pleasant setting!
The fact that it was an easy walk to The Pageant of the Masters after dinner was a huge plus for us.
We had a very nice dinner before the theater. We frequently eat here because of the convenient location and good food and service.
First time at the Lumberyard! We had a group of 6 and we were all very happy. Fish and Chips was delicious as well as the fish special. The Apple Cobbler was also yummy! We will be returning.
The lumberyard was extremely disappointing. It appeared from the menu that they had plenty of plant-based (vegan) options, but they only had the impossible burger and a few stripped down salads.
The waiter had no clue what vegan meant. He first brought my friend a pasta dish with cheese on it. Later, he came back and stated that the “vegan” dish that he had recommended had egg in the pasta. They weren’t able to make up a dish of mixed steamed veggies, so my friend settled for a beet salad.
You’d think that the lumber yard would get a clue from other restaurants that have several dedicated vegan dishes. After all, Covid was caused by man kind eating animal flesh and plant-based eating may be the only thing that will have a chance to save us from environmental disaster on this planet.
It was a busy time of day. Many festivals going on in the area. As the dinner wore on we saw less of the waiter than we would have liked. Everything else was more than satisfactory.
Excellent food, great service. A bit noisy
Always love our visit to the Lumberyard when in Laguna. Great comfort food and reasonable prices. Great drinks and service.
Jeannie was our server and took fantastic care of us. She really made us feel special. The food was the best meal we have all had in awhile. The corn bread, sole and halibut dinners were amazing. We will be back
Super convenient for going to the pageant and great friendly service!
We had dinner here with friends before going to the Pageant of the Masters. Our server was very friendly and attentive. My husband and I both had salads, which were very fresh and tasty. Our friends had the cheddar burger and the fried chicken sandwich, both of which were generous portions and served with crispy fries.
The restaurant was crowded, so the noise level was relatively high, but we could still have a good conversation above the noise. Everyone enjoyed dinner and we'd come here again when we're in Laguna Beach.
Quickly seated, delicious food, very responsive staff!
